Ko Pin Yi Rises Into World's Top Ten After APF Asian 9-ball Open Win

Ko Pin Yi has moved inside the world's top ten on the Live Nineball World Rankings after claiming The APF Asian 9-Ball Open title beating James Aranas in the final 13-11 in Singapore live on the Matchroom Pool social channels as well as on the APF feeds, Matchroom.Live and broadcasters across Asia.

UPDATED NINEBALL WORLD RANKINGS

The 2015 World Champion knocked out US Open runner-up Aloysius Yapp, Masato Yoshioka, and Johann Chua on the way to a memorable victory that sees Ko rise inside the top ten on the Live Nineball World Rankings thanks to the 10,000 Singapore Dollars first place prize.

Aranas showed guile and guts throughout as he reminded the world what he is capable of but in the end, it proved not to be enough to pip an imperious Ko who came from behind meaning the Filipino settled for 5,000 Singapore Dollars and second spot.

Ko has been back playing in Europe this year and acknowledged it made a difference playing closer to home: "The difference between Asian and European style in play is very different but despite that, I still had to be performing at my very best to win the tournament. I felt less pressure with less travel and being able to communicate with people in Mandarin so I felt a lot more relaxed and confident."

Aranas Shows Up Bongay, Enters Semis of Asian 9-Ball Open

James "Dodong Diamond" Aranas toppled Lauro Bongay, 11-2, in a duel of the fancied Filipino bets to barge into the semifinal round of the 2022 APF (Asian Pool Federation Ltd) Asian 9-Ball Open tour at the Aspire Recreation Centre in Singapore, Saturday night.

Aranas taking a 6-0 lead in the rout of Bongay thus moved to the semis where he will meet Naoyuki Oi of Japan.

Oi subdued Anthony Raga, 11-5, preventing an all-Filipino semifinal.

Aranas’ win opened the possibility of an all-Filipino final in the inaugural edition of the tournament after Johann Chua also made it to the semifinals in the other side of the bracket.

Chua dismantled Robbie Capito of Hong Kong, 11-10, in the quarterfinals early in the day.

Chua will meet Ko Pin Yi of ChineseTaipei in the other semi-final showdown. Ko waylaid Masato Yoshioka of Japan, 11-4, in other quarters-final match-ups.

Chua is fresh from winning the gold medal in the 9-ball pool competition during the Southeast Asian Games held in Hanoi, Vietnam last May.

Sunday 14 August 2022

Congratulations to Gary Bullocke - Penultimate 9 Ball Pool Series Event Champion

It was the penultimate main event of the season and despite the glorious hot weather from our continued heatwave, 38 dedicated pool players made their way to Solihull for a day of competitive action, high-standard pool and the glorious, welcoming hospitality of Steve, the Riley’s Solihull manager.

The draw threw up some interesting early-round clashes. Anthony Bevan battled through Joe Wall 7-5, and Bash Maqsood got through an early tester in Ryan Helm by the same score. Only one match went hill-hill early on and it was Bash again, this time being on the receiving end of the scoreline against Adam Lewis.

It’s always interesting how there’s usually a high number of local clashes - players used to skirmishing together on a weekly basis meeting for higher stakes in tournament play. Samer ‘The Tony Fry Slayer’ Al Iraqe was too hot for Ryan Coton on the day, Anthony Bevan fell 7-5 to Coton senior, and Jon McAllister edged out Luke Garland in an early battle of the giants. Meanwhile, tour founders Daryl Garland and Andy Carter met over on table 13, with Andy bringing his usual crash-bang style of play to proceedings and Daryl struggling for form. Loser to the tournament desk please!

Albin Ouschan Wins Inaugural European Open Title

Albin Ouschan has won the inaugural European Open Pool Championship at Hotel Esperanto, Fulda in Germany beating Shane Van Boening in the final 13-11 live on Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland, DAZN in the USA, Canada, Germany, Austria, Spain, Italy, and Switzerland as well as on Viaplay in Scandinavia, Poland, and the Baltics and various other broadcasters worldwide including Matchroom.Live in relevant countries.

Shane Van Boening 11-13 Albin Ouschan

Albin Ouschan wins the first-ever European Open Pool Championship

It was a cagey early affair as Ouschan won the lag only to miss a cut on the two ball to put Van Boening at the table to take a 1-0 lead. Van Boening is usually on form with his break but the new break rule seems to be impacting him more than most and it showed in the next rack as he scratched to give Ouschan ball in hand who duly levelled at 1-1. In the third, it was Ouschan's turn to scratch, and Van Boening lead again at 2-1.

Ouschan was quick to turn it around at the break to soon lead at 3-2 taking advantage of Van Boening's clear misfortune and disbelief. Much like the World Pool Championship final in April, it was nip and tuck as Van Boening leveled. Van Boening then scratched again in the seventh off the break meaning of his last ten breaks in the tournament he'd either broken dry or scratched. Ouschan looked like he was due to lead at 4-3 but lost position forcing him to go airborne on the three and scratch in the middle pocket to give his American counterpart the lead once again.

European Open Day 5 | Filler Falls In Fulda As Four Remain

Joshua Filler crashed out of the inaugural European Open Pool Championship as only four remain at Hotel Esperanto, Fulda in Germany live on Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland, DAZN in the USA, Canada, Germany, Austria, Spain, Italy, and Switzerland as well as on Viaplay in Scandinavia, Poland, and the Baltics and various other broadcasters worldwide including Matchroom.Live in relevant countries.

Joshua Filler 5-11 Mario He

Mieszko Fortunski 10-11 Jose Alberto Delgado

Shane Van Boening 11-7 Matuesz Sniegocki

Albin Ouschan 11-5 Konrad Juszczyszyn

Filler came into the quarter-finals off the back of a dominant display over Jayson Shaw and the home country favourite was looking to get the better of Mario He, someone who had flew under the radar so far this week. He let Filler make the mistakes to let him in early doors and he lead 2-1 after three racks. The Austrian was strolling around the table with ease leading 5-1 when he opened up a chance for Filler after a miss on the one ball brought the Mosconi Cup star his chance to get back on the board at 5-2.

European Open Day 3 | Hometown Hero Hohmann Heads Home

The inaugural European Open Pool Championship in Fulda, Germany at Hotel Esperanto hit the midway point as the field was reduced to the Last 64 live on the Matchroom Pool Facebook/YouTube and Matchroom.Live.

Bracket / Scores

Joshua Filler's encounter with wife Pia was the talk of the tournament as the pair met on the biggest stage for the first time live on the Matchroom Pool Facebook page. Joshua started out strongest to take the opening rack before Pia came back with her own rack to level at 1-1. The contest was played out in great spirit as the pair embraced before lagging with various applause and fist bumps keeping the atmosphere light-hearted despite a spot in the Last 64 resting on the match. It was Joshua who did steal the advantage though as he settled it in a 9-1 win.

 10 Ball Break & Dish - Event 3 GB9 Event 2022

Advertisements

An explanation of what is going on...

For a little extra fun at the tour, we pinched this idea from the USA - a Ten Ball Break and Dish competition... I sell raffle tickets to generate the prize fund, and three tickets are drawn out to attempt the challenge - the player with the first ticket has the best chance, 10% of the prize fund per ball potted, in this case £2,600, so £260 per ball, then the second and third tickets can have a crack at 10% of whatever is left in the pot... There's a big advantage to being the first drawn out, because if the first player takes all the money then there's nothing for the remaining players. You can stop at any time and take the cash, but if you miss, scratch, foul or break dry then you lose it all. Any money not won is rolled over to the next event.

Sanchez Ruiz Claims Third Euro Tour Crown

Reporter: Luke Riches on behalf of the EPBF

FRANCISCO SANCHEZ RUIZ is the Dynamic Billard Petrich Open champion after another blistering display as he beat Klenti Kaci 9 – 6 in a high-quality final at the Petrich Arena in the southern Bulgarian town. Having won his maiden title in Lasko, Slovenia in August last year, he followed that up just ten weeks later, winning the Antalya Open for back-to-back titles.

He took a runners-up spot to Niels Feijen last time out in Austria and now completes a hat-trick of wins on the prestigious Euro Tour. The final was a pulsating affair with both players at the tops of their respective games and in the end, it was very small margins that separated them.

Sanchez-Ruiz was thrilled with his third Tour title, “I feel very excited. This year I’m playing really good and with so much confidence but to be honest in the final I was a little bit lucky but I took my chances and I’m really happy.

“My first Euro Tour was in Lasko and after that everything changed in my mind with that win and I can’t wait for the next tournament. Sometimes I play fast, especially with the shot clock where you must do but this year I’m playing really good and feel so confident every time I play. I don’t really feel too much pressure so let’s see what happens during the rest of the year,” he concluded.
