LIVE SCORES / BRACKET
As the World Nineball Tour arrived in central Europe for the second time in as many months, all eyes were on defending champion Albin Ouschan as the Austrian tried to set alight his Mosconi Cup hopes on a week where Francisco Sanchez Ruiz bagged the first automatic spot for Team Europe before a ball had even been hit. Ouschan stepped up with an opening win over Daniel Brzeziński before stepping past Panagiotis Ksipoliteas to reach the Winners' Qualification at a canter.

FRANCISCO SANCHEZ RUIZ SECURES FIRST MOSCONI CUP SPOT THROUGH WORLD NINEBALL TOUR RANKINGS
World Nineball Tour number one Francisco Sanchez Ruiz has sealed the first automatic spot from the World Nineball Tour Rankings for Team Europe’s 2023 Mosconi Cup side ahead of the trans-atlantic tussle with the USA from December 6-9 at Alexandra Palace, London live on Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland.
Sanchez Ruiz has taken the World Nineball Tour by storm over the last 12 months, accumulating $60,000 WNT ranking points with the World Pool Championship crown back in February to amass an early lead on his closest rivals. The Spaniard headed into this week’s European Open Pool Championship in Fulda, Germany already assured of his spot with an advantage of $30,700 over closest rival Eklent Kaçi.
The European Open Pool Championship marks the first cut-off point for the first automatic selections for the 30th Anniversary Mosconi Cup, with further qualification announcements to follow at the US Open Pool Championship and Asian Open Pool Championship respectively.
On confirmation of his place in Pool’s most historic event, the current US Open champion couldn’t hide his excitement:
“I feel unbelievable. Last year I experienced my dream – to play at least once in the Mosconi Cup. It was the best experience of my life. I never expected anything because I had never been to the Mosconi Cup. When I entered the arena, I can’t explain what I felt – so much pressure!

World Professional Nineball Pool Corporation launches to expand the sport of 9-ball pool globally
Matchroom Sport has today launched its latest exciting expansion with the new formation of the World Professional Nineball Pool Corporation.
The WPNPC is a limited company – headed up by Matchroom Sport chairman, Eddie Hearn – to expand and commercialise opportunities for pool players worldwide and to participate on a global Professional Tour.
In what is a landmark moment for the sport, the WPNPC is:
• Wholly owned subsidiary of Matchroom Multi Sport
• Follows in footsteps of Professional Darts Corporation and World Snooker Tour
• Board to consist of Matchroom Chairman Eddie Hearn, WST Chairman Steve Dawson, PDC CEO Matthew Porter, and Matchroom Multi Sport CEO Emily Frazer.
The World Professional Nineball Pool Corporation, owned and organised by Matchroom Sport, is firmly built on the company’s core values of a Tour for anyone and everyone; an objective for amateur pool players to turn their dreams into reality, by turning professional under the WPNPC.
The launch of the commercial independent organisation will deliver structure to 9-ball pool professionally and globally. Setting the stage for a fully professional tour, Matchroom shall broaden its involvement in the future growth of the sport, with the WPNPC laying the foundation with independent drug testing, independent integrity unit, commercial expansion, consistency of rules as well as worldwide television exposure and presence to inspire the next generation of professional players.
The World Professional Nineball Pool Corporation officially recognises the World Nineball Rankings, all World Nineball Tour events and the official World Nineball Event Rules, providing clarity for players and fans worldwide. The World Nineball Tour 2023 schedule currently hosts 50 events, including five annual Junior Open events with the World Professional Nineball Pool Corporation working with 20 different promoters and organisers throughout the world.

BACK-TO-BACK WNT RANKINGS EVENTS SET FOR VIETNAM
A lucrative ranking event, the Peri 9-ball Open worth over $100,000 in prize money will take place in Vietnam’s Hanoi City the week before the inaugural Asian Open Pool Championship. The WNT Ranking event shall offer the world’s elite a chance to earn vital points and tune-up ahead of the most hotly anticipated tournament in pool.
• Peri 9-Ball Open to take place 5-9 October ahead of Asian Open Pool Championship (10-15 October)
• Penultimate event for Race to Mosconi Cup automatic selection
• $104,000 total prize fund guaranteed, $25,000 to the winner
• World Nineball Tour Event Rules
• Matchroom Pool social media and punditry team to cover event extensively with live streams and exclusive content
• Top 64 Players on the World Nineball Tour are guaranteed seeding
The Peri 9-Ball Open promoted by VietContent and supported by Peri Cues from 5-9 October in Hanoi City at the Peri Pool Arena, Hanoi City will be played under the same WNT event rules as the Asian Open Pool Championship. The Peri Pool Arena is a newly built billiards hall located in the very centre of Hanoi, with just over 30 peri pool tables offering an ideal set up for a WNT ranking event.
As the penultimate ranking event for the Race to Mosconi Cup automatic selection, the tournament will offer an extra bit of needle with the qualification spot for both Team USA and Europe found out at the conclusion of the Asian Open Pool Championship final.
Therefore, a slice of the $104,000 prize fund could be the difference between watching the Mosconi Cup at home or playing at Alexandra Palace.
Offering a clear structure to playing schedules, the tournament will allow players to spend time on Vietnam’s time zone ahead of the Asian Open Pool Championship tuning up with many flying in from the US Open Pool Championship (September 25-30, Atlantic City, USA).

The Billiard Congress of America (BCA) Hall of Fame welcomes one of the game’s hardest working and most ferocious competitors when the Netherland’s great Niels “the Terminator” Feijen is inducted into the sport’s most prestigious club.
Feijen, 46, a two-time World Champion, was the clear choice of voters in the Greatest Players category and is the first Dutch-born player to be inducted into the BCA Hall of Fame.
Feijen will formally be inducted into the Hall of Fame on Friday, Nov. 3, at the Norfolk Sheraton Waterside Hotel in Norfolk, Va., in conjunction with the 2023 International Open pool tournament.
“Obviously, this is a huge honor,” Feijen said when informed of his election. “To be in the same club with my heroes — legends like Efren Reyes and Earl Strickland — is an amazing feeling.
“It’s something I really didn’t think about at all until about five years ago. I was still focused on trying to win tournaments. Once I was on the ballot, I know I was close a few times. You hope, but you have to tell yourself, ‘It will happen when it happens.’”

Anthony Ginn wins the 10 Ball Summer Open

Last week 32 players battled it out to claim the 2nd trophy in our 2023 Tour and a space in our Masters Final at the end of the year. There were strong players in every group and no slow starts as some were quickly claiming some whitewashes in the group stages.
Ramesh, a regular winner at our Monday night tournaments and fresh returning from playing the Spanish Open, goes from strength to strength throughout the day and didn't look like missing as he steamrolled through a tough field. But on the other side of the table,
Anthony Ginn quite simply looked unbeatable all day, seemingly unfazed by anyone who came his way. Both players entered the final deservedly after seeing off Tom Staveley and Oliver Lawrence in a couple of amazing semi-finals.
The final definitely lived up to expectation. Ram and Anthony going toe to toe with runouts being met with runouts and some outstanding safety and escape play. Then at hill-hill, Ramesh has a good chance but just gives it away at the last hurdle.
Another incredible final to watch. With the win, Anthony joins Imran in the Masters Final as the 2nd player to secure a place for the end of this year!
A huge thank you to all the players and our amazing sponsors who helped make this event happen.

THE PHILIPPINES CREATE WORLD CUP OF POOL HISTORY
The Philippines created World Cup of Pool history by claiming a record fourth title beating Germany 11-7 at Pazo de Feiras e Congresos de Lugo, Spain in partnership with The Asociación Gallega de Billar Pool (AGP), Xunta de Galicia, and EIDF Solar live on Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland, DAZN in Spain, the USA, Italy, and Brazil, Viaplay in Scandinavia, the Baltics and Poland and broadcasters worldwide.
Philippines win 2023 World Cup of Pool
Germany 7-11 Philippines
From the outset, a meeting of two powerhouses of Nineball was always going to deliver drama and there was no let up from the start in a rematch of the 2009 World Cup of Pool final where it was the Philippines who came out on top.
Germany's Joshua Filler alongside Moritz Neuhausen was tasked with taking down the powerful Pinoy duo of Johann Chua and James Aranas and they had the initial upper hand by winning the lag. Despite that, it was the Philippines who took the opening rack after Filler scratched from the break whilst the second rack swung the other way after Aranas missed the nine. A brilliant break and run out in the third put Germany ahead. The Philippines hit back in the fourth after a loose Filler safety put them in to clear the table from the two.
Aranas and Chua put their nation back in front in the fifth rack after Neuhausen was forced to go airborne to find any contact on the two at 3-2.
The Philippines were gathering momentum in the contest and ramped up to a 5-2 lead after a costly foul from Germany gave the former ball in hand to extend their advantage and be six racks away from victory. A break and run in the following took the Philippines over the halfway stage toward victory. As in the previous two matches, the Philippines were doing all the early running and they built on their lead to 7-2, it was a magnificent showing of cueing.

PHILIPPINES AND GERMANY TO CONTEST 2023 WORLD CUP OF POOL FINAL
The Philippines and Germany will contest the 2023 World Cup of Pool final in a repeat of the 2009 final at Pazo de Feiras e Congresos de Lugo, Spain in partnership with The Asociación Gallega de Billar Pool (AGP), Xunta de Galicia, and EIDF Solar live on Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland, DAZN in Spain, the USA, Italy, and Brazil, Viaplay in Scandinavia, the Baltics and Poland, TAP Go in the Philippines and Matchroom.Live and DAZN in Germany and broadcasters worldwide from 7pm CEST today, Sunday, 2 July.
MATCH SCHEDULE
Led by Johann Chua and James Aranas, the Filipino pairing set out to make history to become the first nation to ever win the title on four separate occasions but Austria's Mario He and Albin Ouschan stood in their way looking for their own piece of history as the first scotch doubles pairing to ever win the World Cup of Pool three times.
Austria took the opening rack put it was their counterparts who led 2-1 going into the first commercial break after two quickfire racks. As expected for a semi-final, little could separate the two nations with Ouschan and He soon swinging the contest in the opposite direction at 3-2.
In the sixth, He made a poor push out from the break which allowed Chua in for a raking effort on the two ball before the Pinoys took control for three apiece and then a lead at 5-3 with Chua playing a starring role in what looked to be turning into an excellent afternoon's work.
At 5-3, Chua played one of the shots of the tournament to cut in a five ball and squeeze the cue ball around the table for a plum position on the sixth ball, it was one of many superb efforts from the SEA Games gold medalist.
In the 11th rack with the Philippines leading 6-4, a long battle on the two broke out before He went for the jugular only to leave a bank on for the ever-dependable Chua who was putting on the performance of his life. It was excellent as Chua and Aranas went to a three-rack advantage. In the 12th, the Philippines fluked safe after Chua went for the 2-9 combo after the break, Ouschan then scratched and fouled on the nine when trying to get out of the hook which brought the Filipinos to the hill first at 8-4.
Déjà vu was about to play out for the Philippines though with such a healthy advantage just like yesterday against Chinese Taipei, Austria came back fighting in the 13th for 8-5 then 8-6 after getting ball in hand from a foul. A golden break from He cut it to 8-7 before being able to go hill hill after Chua missed a six ball with only a few balls between the Philippines and the final.
Breaking in the final rack, He scratched to give the Philippines ball in hand, and from then on, it was curtains for Austria as Chua and Aranas ran the table out to secure victory and set up with a final against the winner of Germany and China.
