2023 WORLD CUP OF POOL | AUSTRIA AND POLAND INTO QUARTER-FINALS
Poland and Austria sealed the first quarter-final spots at the 2023 World Cup of Pool at Pazo de Feiras e Congresos de Lugo, Spain in partnership with The Asociación Gallega de Billar Pool (AGP), Xunta de Galicia and EIDF Solar live on Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland, DAZN in Spain, the USA, Italy, and Brazil, Viaplay in Scandinavia, the Baltics and Poland and broadcasters worldwide.
MATCH SCHEDULE
Before the second round matches got underway, the USA's Shane Van Boening and Skyler Woodward wrapped up a comfortable passage in the final round one match-up over South Korea's Seo Seoa and Kang Lee 7-1.
At first, the contest was close at 1-1 after errors from both sides led to an open start to the match up but from there it was plain sailing for Woodward and Van Boening as they showed their experience and quality on the main stage to wrap up victory. Lee had a chance at 3-1 down on the six after being left a good lie by Seoa but it wasn't capitalised on to allow the USA in for 4-1.
At 6-1 down, Seoa was left in a tricky hook by the USA leaving her to foul, and from there, victory was routine for Van Boening and Woodward with only four balls left on the table.

2023 WORLD CUP OF POOL | CHINA BATTLE BACK TO DEFEAT SYRIA
Team China's return to the World Cup of Pool was a successful one coming from 3-0 down to defeat Syria 7-3 at Pazo de Feiras e Congresos de Lugo, Spain in partnership with The Asociación Gallega de Billar Pool (AGP), Xunta de Galicia and EIDF Solar live on Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland, DAZN in Spain, the USA, Italy, and Brazil, Viaplay in Scandinavia, the Baltics and Poland and broadcasters worldwide.
MATCH SCHEDULE
China led by Wu Jia Qing and Wang Can struggled to get a grip of proceedings early on against Syria's Mohammad Soufi and Zaid Al-Shariti with the debutants making their opposition sweat at 3-0 down.
Soufi and Al-Shariti's attacking style was troublesome as much entertaining and a miss on the four at 3-0 up proved to be costly as China stepped up to deliver vital blows to keep them in it back at 3-2 before 3-3 after a brief safety exchange where Syria struggled to cope with the hooks left on the table by Wu and Wang.
At 4-3 down, Al-Shariti scratched on a tricky jump to bring China up who soon made it 5-3 and they'd won five on the spin. Mistakes were part of Syria's downfall but China tapped into their counterpart's struggles to leave tricky lies with no real sight of the object ball when necessary. Wu and Wang stepped up to finish off the final two racks and bag a victory that sees the three-time former winners meet Singapore tomorrow afternoon.

2023 WORLD CUP OF POOL | SPAIN B KEEP SPANISH HOPES ALIVE
Spain B kept Spanish hearts longing for glory after defeating Saudi Arabia in the final match of the evening session on day two of the 2023 World Cup of Pool at Pazo de Feiras e Congresos de Lugo, Spain in partnership with The Asociación Gallega de Billar Pool (AGP), Xunta de Galicia and EIDF Solar live on Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland, DAZN in Spain, the USA, Italy, and Brazil, Viaplay in Scandinavia, the Baltics and Poland and broadcasters worldwide.
Germany 7-2 New Zealand
Hungary 1-7 Bosnia & Herzegovina
Spain B 7-1 Saudi Arabia
Jonas Souto Comino and Jose Alberto Delgado kept hopes alive with a confident showing in front of a vocal home crowd whilst Saudi Arabia on their debut had Khalid Alghamdi and Mohannad Hamoud Alghumayz in their corner. It was clear the crowd was spurring on Alberto Delgado and Souto Comino, the two latest prodigies to come out of the host nation.
The pair quickly assembled an early advantage at 3-0 and 4-0 to be well clear of their opponents. Alghumayz and Alghamdi had opportunities but they were gilt-edged and best and it showed as Spain B continued to take control at 5-0 and reach the hill at 6-0. Saudi Arabia had their chance to get a rack on the board though after a dry break in the seventh.
Spain B's first chance to seal it came with a 5-9 combo in the eighth rack but it didn't prove to be for Delgado and from there, Saudi Arabia had another rack on the board to leave the home nation sweating. A fluke from Alghumayz on the six didn't help Saudi Arabia's cause in the ninth though with Alghamdi forced to try and play safe on the seven but it was loose and Delgado stepped up to nail the seven and then the winning nine.

2023 WORLD CUP OF POOL | CHINESE TAIPEI PUT ON STATEMENT WIN
Chinese Taipei thrashed Finland 7-1 to underline their 2023 World Cup of Pool hopes at Pazo de Feiras e Congresos de Lugo, Spain in partnership with The Asociación Gallega de Billar Pool (AGP), Xunta de Galicia and EIDF Solar live on Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland, DAZN in Spain, the USA, Italy, and Brazil, Viaplay in Scandinavia, the Baltics and Poland and broadcasters worldwide.
Netherlands 7-4 Hong Kong, China
Chinese Taipei 7-1 Finland
Poland 7-2 Serbia
The Ko brothers Pin Yi and Ping Chung set out against former winners in Petri Makkonen and Mika Immonen with the intention of adding another star next to their own country's accolades having last lifted the title eight years ago in 2015.
Finland got off to the worst of starts with no table time until the third rack and even then it didn't go to plan for them as Chinese Taipei got back to establish a 3-0 advantage.
At 5-1 down, Finland got into trouble from the break, and from there, they found themselves 6-1 down after they fell to the three foul rule, compounded with Immonen scratching after a safety that left him searching for any sight on the two ball. A routine finish in the following rack gave Pin Yi and Ping Chung a win to set up an enticing tie with the Netherlands in the second round.

2023 WORLD CUP OF POOL | AUSTRIA SURVIVE AUSSIE SCARE
Two-time winners of the World Cup of Pool Austria survived an almighty scare to avoid crashing out of the 2023 edition at the hands of Australia from 6-3 down taking place at Pazo de Feiras e Congresos de Lugo, Spain in partnership with The Asociación Gallega de Billar Pool (AGP), Xunta de Galicia and EIDF Solar live on Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland, DAZN in Spain, the USA, Italy, and Brazil, Viaplay in Scandinavia, the Baltics and Poland and broadcasters worldwide.
Great Britain 7-0 Qatar
Albania 7-3 Peru
Austria 7-6 Australia
A two-time winning pair in Albin Ouschan and Mario He looked out of sorts as Justin Sajich and James Georgiadis took the game to their European opponents in Australia's 15th first-round match.
Australia took the opening two racks in quick time with Austria finding a return in the third and fourth to level up at two apiece. Sajich made a brilliant safety at 2-2 which put Austria in a world of trouble and the lead was established again for the men from down under. That lead was extended to 5-2 and Austria were about to be on the end of one of the biggest shocks in recent time.

DEFENDING CHAMPIONS SPAIN KNOCKED OUT BY PHILIPPINES
Defending champions Spain have been knocked out of the 2023 World Cup of Pool in the opening session of the tournament by the Philippines 7-5 at Pazo de Feiras e Congresos de Lugo, Spain in partnership with The Asociación Gallega de Billar Pool (AGP), Xunta de Galicia and EIDF Solar live on Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland, DAZN in Spain, the USA, Italy, and Brazil, Viaplay in Scandinavia, the Baltics and Poland and broadcasters worldwide.
Francisco Sanchez Ruiz and David Alcaide set out as 9/2 bookies' favourites but with the tallest order of them all to make the second stage. The Philippines are unseeded for the first time but some would say it wasn't a true reflection of the talent in their ranks with James Aranas and Johann Chua bringing the heat to the hosts who were buoyed by a strong Spanish crowd.
Spain got the better of the opening racks to lead 2-0 and it looked to be the start of a routine performance for the 2022 champions but Aranas and Chua were there to crash the party. The Philippines took the following three racks and the contest was turned on its head with the best exchange of the match to come in the sixth. A brilliant hook was left by the Philippines to hide the cue ball from the two but Alcaide proceeded to nail a jump shot to clean up and allow Spain back for three apiece and then a lead at 5-3 and be two away from the finish line.

DANG JIN HU WINS FIRST-EVER SPANISH OPEN POOL CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE
Dang Jin Hu has beaten Marc Bijsterbosch in the inaugural Spanish Open Pool Championship final in what will go down as one of the best-ever finals in history 13-12 at Pazo de Feiras e Congresos de Lugo, Spain in partnership with The Asociación Gallega de Billar Pool (AGP), live on Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland, DAZN in Spain, the USA, Italy, and Brazil, Viaplay in Scandinavia, the Baltics and Poland and broadcasters worldwide.
Marc Bijsterbosch (NED) 12-13 Dang Jin Hu (CHN)
Bijsterbosch opened up to take the first rack but it turned on its head quickly with Dang responding to gather an early 2-1 advantage. At 2-1 down, Bijsterbosch had the chance to level up at two apiece but the Dutchman's kick went badly wrong to give Dang ball in hand and he took full advantage to gather steam at 4-1 up off the back of the error.
Dang did let it slip though in the sixth rack as an ambitious kick left the six hanging over the pocket allowing Bijsterbosch in for 4-2. The pair were shaky and with Dang taking the break in the eighth at 5-2, he scratched that again allowed Bijsterbosch his time to take another rack back.

BIJSTERBOSCH AND DANG TO CONTEST SPANISH OPEN FINAL
Marc Bijsterbosch and Dang Jin Hu will contest the inaugural Spanish Open Pool Championship final at Pazo de Feiras e Congresos de Lugo, Spain in partnership with The Asociación Gallega de Billar Pool (AGP), live on Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland, DAZN in Spain, the USA, Italy, and Brazil, Viaplay in Scandinavia, the Baltics and Poland and broadcasters worldwide from 7:30 pm CEST.
Bijsterbosch came through hill-hill in a semi-final that delivered it all against Pijus Labutis of Lithuania. The pair couldn't be split early on as they exchanged blows at 2-2 and again at 4-4 after Labutis had gone 4-2 in front. Despite the lead, Labutis' break that was so consistent in his quarter-final over Fedor Gorst was errant at best with two dry breaks after six racks.
Both players were in their first Matchroom semi-final and the nerves showed at times with Labutis handling the heat seemingly better as he took an 8-4 lead that stemmed from a costly miss on the two ball from Bijsterbosch in the ninth rack. Labutis looked much favoured as he kept applying the pressure and keeping the distance.

2023 SPANISH OPEN | WOODWARD RUNS RAMPANT TO REACH SEMIS
Skyler Woodward delivered arguably his best-ever performance on the Matchroom stage to whitewash Ko Pin Yi 10-0 to reach the semi-finals of the inaugural Spanish Open Pool Championship at Pazo de Feiras e Congresos de Lugo, Spain in partnership with The Asociación Gallega de Billar Pool (AGP), live on Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland, DAZN in Spain, the USA, Italy, and Brazil, Viaplay in Scandinavia, the Baltics and Poland and broadcasters worldwide.
Woodward was dominant as he made the 2023 World Pool Masters winner Ko pay for marginal errors in an exquisite performance that was a joy to behold. Ko left a four-ball astray in the opening rack and from there Woodward didn't look back. Four break and runs in the opening eight put Woodward only two from victory with Ko left reeling for the smallest of mistakes that allowed his American opposition to pounce. In the end, Woodward, who reached the semi-finals of the UK Open just a few weeks ago downed the former champion of the world to set up a tie with Dang Jin Hu in the second semi-final tomorrow.
The two-time Mosconi Cup MVP said: "Just to beat Ko is tough enough, I knew if he made a mistake, I had to take control. I had him jumping and kicking. I punished him after the two early errors. With the tighter pockets, I do not take anything for granted. I bear down more on every shot, fewer loose shots have helped. I still play the way I do though, nothing really different. The Spanish Open is good. I am having fun out here. I am having a blast here in Spain and I hope to keep playing well and keep rolling."
