MIESKO FORTUNSKI OF Poland, the highest ranked player coming into the
tournament, justified the form lines as he took down the Dynamic Billard
Tampere Open, beating the Netherland’s Marc Bijsterbosch 9-5 in the
final match. For the 31 year-old from Lubin, it was his second Euro Tour
title after winning in Italy seven years ago.
Fortunski came undefeated through the tournament and in the final began
to pull away from Bijsterbosch, whose misfortunes off the break were a
telling factor. The Pole, though, played with some intensity and it was
enough to open up a wide lead which his opponent could never recover
from.
After the match, Fortunski was naturally delighted, “I feel perfect! A
couple of days before the tournament I did an interview and they asked
how I would cope with being the highest ranked player coming into the
tournament. Well, here’s my answer!
“I really want to get to No.1 on the European ranking and this result
will really help me get there. I’ve been working with a mental coach for
the past couple of months so this is hopefully just the first victory.”

EYLLUL KIBAROGLU TODAY claimed her second women’s Euro Tour title,
beating Germany’s Veronika Ivanovskaia 7-6 in an exciting encounter at
the Exhibition and Sports Centre in Tampere, Finland. Following her win
at the Predator Petrich Open in Bulgaria last August and three
semi-final spots since then, the Turkish girl has cemented her position
at the top of the Euro Tour Women’s rankings. For Ivanovskaia, who won
last time out in St Johan im Pongau, Austria, it was a missed
opportunity but second place points with none to defend, will see her
shoot up the rankings.
For Kibaroglu though, it was a wonderful victory, “I’m so happy to get
this second win on the Euro Tour. I’m so excited about the European
Championships; I’m playing in the four disciplines and I’m really
hopeful going into the event this week.
“I get a lot of support back home and it is always a wonderful feeling
to take a European trophy back to the club. The European Championships
start on Thursday and this victory will give me some real confidence
going into those tournaments.”

SHAW WINS EPIC COME-BACK FINAL FOR POPULAR HOME VICTORY
If you didn't see the final of the JFlowers Scottish Open last night, then you missed the most incredible match we're likely to see this year - an epic battle between Scotland's favourite Jayson "Eagle Eye" Shaw, and the Polish pool prodigy Wiktor Zieliński.
On his way to the final, the 22 year old Zieliński had comfortably eliminated Elliott Sanderson, Jack Whelan, and Denis Grabe by significant margins, and he looked like continuing in the same fashion, after he and Shaw traded the first few racks, the Pole dominated the table to go 8-2 in front - a devastating scoreline in any race-to-10 competition, and even in this winner breaks format it presents an almost insurmountable lead.
Shaw, who had just scraped through a tense hill-hill semi-final with aging German super-star Ralf Souquet, never gave up, and gradually managed to chip away at the lead, as the formerly indestructible Zieliński started to show a little frailty, visibly dropping his head a few times while sitting in his chair as Shaw took rack after rack with no reply, until he was just one rack behind at 8-7.
A late rally by Zieliński got to him to the hill, and breaking for the match - it looked like Shaw's comeback might be for naught, as the Pole made the one-ball in the side, but a miss on the two gave Shaw the opportunity he needed to clear up, and a break and dish for Shaw in the penultimate rack sent the match to hill-hill, much to the relief of the appreciative but admittedly partisan audience.
Referee Julian Roper prepared the all-important final rack, and the crowd roared their appreciation as Shaw and Zieliński shook hands... But you could hear a pin drop as the proud Scot stepped forward to make the crucial final break of the evening.
Watch the video of the final rack, you won't believe it until you see it... Jayson broke dry, leaving an easy, straight one-ball for Wiktor and a route-map finish - all the youngster has to do was hold his nerve and not make any mistakes and the match would finally be his.
Bad luck perhaps, or the contrariness of the pool gods, combined with a little of extra adrenaline meant the Pole actually cued it too well - drawing the cue-ball all the way back down the table until it scratched into the corner pocket.
With ball-in-hand his opponent made no delay in clearing the balls, and a deafening roar of jubilation greeted Shaw sinking the decisive 9-ball, taking the title and a handy £8,000 top prize.
You can watch the video of the final below, and remember that following the massive success of the JFlowers Scottish Open, McGoldrick’s will play host once again to a World Nineball Ranking event from July 21-23 with the Jacoby 9-Ball Open.

Dynamic Billard Tampere Open - Immonen Still on Track for Euro Tour Title
Reporter: Luke Riches on behalf of the EPBF
Photography: ©EPBF
THERE ARE JUST 16 players left at the Dynamic Billard Tampere Open after
a long day’s play at the local Exhibition and Sports Centre. The
highest-ranked player going into the tournament was Poland’s Mieszko
Fortunski and he is very much on track for a second Euro Tour crown.
However, there are still plenty of quality players contesting and he
will have to play his best game throughout tomorrow to prevail.
Another player eyeing up a rise in the ranking is Holland’s Marc
Bijsterbosch who is currently ranked at No.16. He was the first player
to win through to Monday’s last 16 with a hard-fought 9-7 win over
Ronald Regli (Switzerland). The Dutchman had lost his opening match of
the tournament going down 9-5 to dangerous Turk, Onur Yildrim.
From there he had the onerous task of fighting through the multiple
games on the one-loss side, a feat he achieved admirably, “I played five
matches against four Finnish players and now I’m a little bit tired
because I played a lot of matches but I managed to win all of them so I
played good in the end and I’m happy to be through.
“Yesterday I came at 8.00 in the morning to the hotel and I had to play
a match at 1.30, I think, so I was very tired. I hope to be in the top
three of the Euro Tour rankings as that would be a nice target for me
and I have a nice chance here,” he added.

Day One Completes in Tampere

DAY ONE OF the Dynamic Billard Tampere Open in Finland completed this
evening at the Tampere Exhibition and Sports Centre and from 168
starting players, 118 remain; 32 on the winners’ side and the rest on
the losers’ side. Those players will be returning on Sunday morning when
play resumes at 10.00 local time.
There were a few Euro Tour veterans in the field including Mika Immonen
who won the inaugural Tour event over 30 years ago. The Iceman is still
in it, and although he was relegated to the one-loss side by the
Netherland’s Jan Rempe he bounced back with a win over fellow Finn Kimmo
Kamotskin to keep his hopes alive.
Another blast-from-the-past is four-time Euro Tour winner, Sweden’s
Marcus Chamat. ‘Napoleon’ has had a storied career in pool and still
keeps his hand in. Like Immonen, he is now on the one-loss side after
going down 9-5 to the very capable Mats Schnetje in his second match,
but lived to fight another day with a win over Jani Kela (Finland).
Commented Chamat, “I wanted to come and support the event as it’s only a
one-hour flight from Stockholm to Helsinki. The Finnish Federation are
doing great stuff here, putting on the Euro Tour and European
Championships. I didn’t have a lot of work at the moment so I figured I
would come and play. Why not?

Filler Crowned Champion at Wisconsin Open While Women Down to Four
Reporter: Predator Group
Photography: Predator Group
Playing on the final day of the Apex Wisconsin Open, the former World 9-Ball champion earned his first-ever Pro Billiard Series title, defeating Vitaly Patsura of Ukraine in the semifinals and taking down sentimental favorite Tyler Styer in the finals. The German was in control throughout most of the four day, 64-player event, winning seven straight matches and losing only one set throughout.
“Today I didn’t play as good as I did on the days before but when you’re in the semis you know you have to play well so it puts more pressure on you,” said Filler. “I was playing good and I was just happy to have won it.”
After Filler missed a 2 ball in the opening game, Styer appeared to be in position to take the first game but missed the 10 ball, allowing Filler to come back to the table and roll in the game winner. The American was able to snatch a game back in the next rack when Filler misplayed position on the 4 ball then left an opening after kicking at the ball but he lost his momentum in the next game when he misplayed a safety on the 2 ball which handed his opponent an open table and a 2-1 lead. Styer appeared to be in position to tie the match again in the fourth rack when his opponent miscued on the 8 ball but, with the 9 and 10 balls frozen, the American misplayed a safety and allowed his opponent to tack on another game. Styer had another chance to cut the deficit after forcing Filler into a foul in the fifth rack but missed the 3 ball in the corner pocket, then watched as the German closed out the set, 4-1.
