Day One Completes in Tampere

DAY ONE OF the Dynamic Billard Tampere Open in Finland completed this
evening at the Tampere Exhibition and Sports Centre and from 168
starting players, 118 remain; 32 on the winners’ side and the rest on
the losers’ side. Those players will be returning on Sunday morning when
play resumes at 10.00 local time.
There were a few Euro Tour veterans in the field including Mika Immonen
who won the inaugural Tour event over 30 years ago. The Iceman is still
in it, and although he was relegated to the one-loss side by the
Netherland’s Jan Rempe he bounced back with a win over fellow Finn Kimmo
Kamotskin to keep his hopes alive.
Another blast-from-the-past is four-time Euro Tour winner, Sweden’s
Marcus Chamat. ‘Napoleon’ has had a storied career in pool and still
keeps his hand in. Like Immonen, he is now on the one-loss side after
going down 9-5 to the very capable Mats Schnetje in his second match,
but lived to fight another day with a win over Jani Kela (Finland).
Commented Chamat, “I wanted to come and support the event as it’s only a
one-hour flight from Stockholm to Helsinki. The Finnish Federation are
doing great stuff here, putting on the Euro Tour and European
Championships. I didn’t have a lot of work at the moment so I figured I
would come and play. Why not?

Filler Crowned Champion at Wisconsin Open While Women Down to Four
Reporter: Predator Group

Playing on the final day of the Apex Wisconsin Open, the former World 9-Ball champion earned his first-ever Pro Billiard Series title, defeating Vitaly Patsura of Ukraine in the semifinals and taking down sentimental favorite Tyler Styer in the finals. The German was in control throughout most of the four day, 64-player event, winning seven straight matches and losing only one set throughout.
“Today I didn’t play as good as I did on the days before but when you’re in the semis you know you have to play well so it puts more pressure on you,” said Filler. “I was playing good and I was just happy to have won it.”
After Filler missed a 2 ball in the opening game, Styer appeared to be in position to take the first game but missed the 10 ball, allowing Filler to come back to the table and roll in the game winner. The American was able to snatch a game back in the next rack when Filler misplayed position on the 4 ball then left an opening after kicking at the ball but he lost his momentum in the next game when he misplayed a safety on the 2 ball which handed his opponent an open table and a 2-1 lead. Styer appeared to be in position to tie the match again in the fourth rack when his opponent miscued on the 8 ball but, with the 9 and 10 balls frozen, the American misplayed a safety and allowed his opponent to tack on another game. Styer had another chance to cut the deficit after forcing Filler into a foul in the fifth rack but missed the 3 ball in the corner pocket, then watched as the German closed out the set, 4-1.

Ko Pin Yi Wins 2023 World Pool Masters Title
Ko Pin Yi has won the 2023 World Pool Masters title in Brentwood, Essex beating Eklent Kaci in the final 13-5 live on Sky Sports in the UK and broadcasters worldwide.
Ko Pin Yi 13-5 Eklent Kacii
Kaçi won the lag and took the first rack with a break and run out and the second should have soon followed with a 6-9 combo but the nerves got the better of the Mosconi Cup winner to allow Ko in for his first rack and to level up. Ko looked more comfortable out there early on and broke and run in the third to go 2-1 up. It was cagey early on from both players as they struggled to get going with the scores locked at 2-2 before a deep safety battle where eventually Kaçi pulled through to lead the contest.
Any small error was to be pounced on by the two players and it proved the case with Kaçi leading 4-3, a dry broke led Ko to then run through the following racks and soon assert a 7-4 lead and with an imposing position pushed on to break and run in the 12th and 13th rack to a 9-4 lead.
Ko did falter in the next rack though as he was left chasing the cue ball to keep his run alive allowing Kaçi to sweep in and cut the deficit to 9-5. The hope for Kaçi was short-lived though as he scratched off the break and then proceeded to scratch again after Ko fluked safe on the six. It meant Ko was only three from victory.
Another long safety battle took hold in the following rack with Kaçi clearly feeling the heat. After safety, Kaçi had a chance on the five but left it well wide of the mark to leave Ko in for a simple run out to reach the hill in quick time. In the final rack, Ko broke well and finished up with a clever 3-9 carom to secure his first major victory since 2015.
It wrapped up an epic run from Ko that saw him overcome Jayson Shaw in the opening round 9-1 before knocking out Shane Van Boening in the quarter-finals 11-7 and an impressive semi-final win against James Aranas 11-9 to reach the final.
Ko said: "It feels so good. The World Pool Masters was the one I wanted to win. After I beat Jayson (Shaw), I thought already about winning and jumping on the table. It was tough but I feel so happy to win this tournament. I knew that the only person that could beat me was myself."

Eklent Kaci And Ko Pin Yi To Contest 2023 World Pool Masters Final
Eklent Kaçi and Ko Pin Yi will contest the 2023 World Pool Masters final at the Brentwood Centre, England from 7:00 pm tonight live on Sky Sports in the UK and broadcasters worldwide including on Matchroom.Live in Albania and Sportscast in Chinese Taipei.
Semi-Final Results
Niels Feijen 10-11 Eklent Kaci
Ko Pin Yi 11-9 James Aranas
A mouthwatering European clash always promised to deliver in the opening semi-final and it did in bundles with another high-quality match that ended up going the distance. Kaçi was in his third straight World Pool Masters semi-final whilst Niels Feijen was looking to keep the dreams of a third crown going and it was the latter who got off to the better start.
Feijen did a lot of the early running, it was a clinic at times as the record Mosconi Cup MVP holder cantered into a 3-0 lead at the first commercial break before that lead soon became 6-0 with 11 the magic number for a spot in the final against either Ko or James Aranas. Kaçi needed something to go his way and he started to find some hope after taking the seventh and eighth racks in quick succession. Feijen had plenty of table time but with Kaçi having the break it was in his hands if he was to mark a comeback for the ages.
Kaçi was making 3/4 balls per break and offered the perfect roadmap to come through and soon level at six apiece leaving Feijen frozen in his chair. It was six on the spin and the tide had well and truly turned.
The Albanian smelt blood and went 9-7 up and only two away from a maiden final but Feijen found something from within after an errant effort on the four in the following rack from Kaçi opened the table up. It was a nervy finish as Feijen tried a thin cut on the two but scratched which brought Kaçi to the table who ran out to reach the hill first with a three-rack advantage.
Breaking on the hill, Kaçi scratched on the break which allowed Feijen in to make it 10-8 before 10-9 and soon 10-10 with the pair facing being put through the wringer for one final rack. Feijen with the break broke dry for the first time in a while in the match which left Kaçi with a routine runout to reach the 2023 World Pool Masters final.

Kaci and Ko reach 2023 World Pool Masters semis
Eklent Kaçi and Ko Pin Yi joined Niels Feijen and James Aranas in the semi-finals of the 2023 World Pool Masters at the Brentwood Centre, Essex live on Sky Sports in the UK, DAZN in the USA, and networks worldwide.
BRACKET
Kaçi came into his clash with Mario He in red-hot form after overcoming He's World Cup of Pool partner Albin Ouschan in the opening round and it proved to be another epic battle. The Albanian did the early running and led comfortably at 5-1 and it looked an unassailable position but a mountain He would choose to climb rather than falter. He pulled it back to 5-4 but Kaçi kept the Austrian at arms length to take the following two racks to edge over the halfway stage at 7-4.
He left Kaçi in a brutal hook in the 12th rack which led to the Albanian Eagle fouling to give He ball in hand. With ball in hand, He went airborne to try and make a 1-9 combo only for the nine to trickle in the opposite corner for a fluke that brought the two-time World Cup of Pool winner back in it before a further two racks brought it level at 7-7. The contest swung in He's favour for the first time as he soon moved two away at 9-7.
Everything about the contest underlined just why it's the elite of the very elite competing this week underlined by an expert run out by Kaçi to pounce on a rare error from He to get back at the table. Kaçi was crunching them in better than anyone all week and was left with only five on the table and dish up to level at 9-9.
It was proving to be a classic and the drama was not done yet, a break and run put Kaçi to the hill first and he looked to have it locked up in the final rack but went for an ambitious 8-9 combo in the penultimate rack that cost him dearly to allow He to force a one rack shootout after arguably the shot of the match on the eight to pull back for the nine.
In the final rack, a brief safety battle ensued before Kaçi's failed bank seemed to let He in on the four only for the Panda to be jacked up meaning position wasn't ideal. With that, He stunned the four in only to see his cue ball hooked on the five, from there, Kaçi stole the march to reach his second World Pool Masters semi-final in three years.
Kaçi said: "I thought I should've finished the match with the 8-9 and then I thought here we go! Hill hill. When you see the nine like that dead straight and you have an exciting match not for us but for the viewers, it's great to see the nine like that."

Feijen And Aranas Make 2023 World Pool Masters Semis
Niels Feijen and James Aranas are the first names into the semi-finals of the 2023 World Pool Masters in Brentwood, Essex after the afternoon session live on Sky Sports in the UK, DAZN in the USA, and networks worldwide.
BRACKET
Feijen came into the quarter-finals fresh off the back of defeating reigning champion Joshua Filler where the Dutchman came from behind whilst his opponent Max Lechner was looking to write the wrongs of his last major moment in a Matchroom event that saw him miss out in the 2022 US Open final.
Lechner started out the better of the pair opening up an initial advantage at 3-0 but Feijen found a rhythm to come back in at 3-0. Both players were struggling to get to grips with the break and it showed with lengthy safety battles the theme of the match off the break. From 3-3, Feijen swung it in his favour to 5-3 and looked composed with one eye on another World Pool Masters semi-final. Mad Max though wasn't done just yet and came fighting back to 5-5.
Feijen raced to 10-5 up with 11 the target for victory and it seemed it was nearly job done for the man who last lifted the crown in 2018. Lechner got back to the table in the 16th rack after Feijen was left with very few options off the break to allow his opponent in for 10-6. With the break, Lechner was hoping to rustle up something to get him back into the contest but it was shortlived as a scratch left Feijen with an easy 2-9 for victory.
"I started shaky. It was a nervy start. It took me a while but that's the positive thing with long races, even if you have a poor start, I think in the middle and to the end, I had a great session. I was executing much better. In the end, I got a roll when he scratched off the nine and I had a 2-9 for the win. It was a squeezing and grinding game. I will chill out now and put another hour of practice in to try and get the break timing better. I started making the one in the end. Recover from now and I'll build up energy for tomorrow.
