Quarter-final line-up locked in for 2023 World Pool Masters
Only eight remain at the 2023 World Pool Masters in Brentwood, Essex after 2021 champion Alexander Kazakis and two-time winner David Alcaide exited the tournament live on Sky Sports in the UK.
BRACKET
Kazakis came into the tournament looking to replicate a magical tournament in 2021 where the Greek freely admits he 'became a man' but he faced close friend and a player on a high in Mario He of Austria. He won the lag and proceeded to break and run the opening two before a golden break in the third put him in firm control. A further run out in the fourth rack saw Kazakis with a mountain to climb. At 5-2 up, He fouled when going airborne to make the five allowing Kazakis in to try and make his mark on the match but that was to be shortlived despite getting it back to 5-5.
An individual Matchroom title seems only a matter of time for He and the two-time World Cup of Pool winner will fancy his chances with the break seemingly right at the top of He's weaponry with another golden break helping him to the hill at 8-5 before closing out for an impressive 9-5 win.
Shane Van Boening came into his match against Alcaide looking to win his first World Pool Masters crown since doing the double in 2014-2015 but he knew it would be a tough ask against another player with so much pedigree in the tournament. Alcaide went 2-0 up after a huge fluke on the nine and it looked soon to be three but an uncharacteristic miss on the nine in the third saw Van Boening leap up and make him pay with three racks on the spin to lead for the first time.

WNT World No. 1 Sanchez Ruiz out
World Nineball Tour No.1 and world champion Francisco Sanchez Ruiz is out of the 2023 World Pool Masters in Brentwood, Essex losing out to James Aranas in the opening round live on Sky Sports in the UK and broadcasters worldwide.
BRACKET
Sanchez Ruiz was looking to go better than a run to the quarter-finals, his previous best but faced stern opposition from Aranas who was coming into the tournament as a wild card. Aranas stole the early racks at 2-0 and soon that lead was 5-2 when a fluke from Sanchez Ruiz allowed the Spaniard in for the first real bit of table time. There were fond memories for Sanchez Ruiz coming into this week having lifted the World Cup of Pool title with close friend David Alcaide in the same venue little under 12 months ago and it seemed he was finding his best stuff with a three-pack to hit the front at 6-5 but that didn't seem to faze Aranas.
Aranas had a fluke of his own on the eight in the 12th rack to enable him to pull level and soon make his own ascendancy towards the magical nine racks needed to progress to the quarter-finals. The Dodong Diamond continued on his way towards a big result on his CV as Sanchez Ruiz faltered. Aranas stepped up to limit chances for his opponent and pull off a memorable win with two break and runs at 7-7 to seal victory. He said: "I felt so nervous but I knew I had to fight. I was shaking early on. I calmed myself down and I knew with a good layout I was capable of getting out."

Defending Champion Filler Out Of 2023 World Pool Masters
Defending World Pool Masters champion Joshua Filler has been knocked out in the opening round of the 2023 edition at the Brentwood Centre in Essex, England live on Sky Sports to two-time winner Niels Feijen in an action-packed opening evening.
BRACKET
Filler came into the tournament looking to become only the second player in the tournament's history to defend one of the sport's most historic crowns and the German did some of the early running to take advantage of a Feijen scratch to canter into a 5-1 lead with 9 the magic number for a quarter-final clash. Feijen was warned early on by the referee for soft breaks but that only seemed to spur him on more to turn things around as the Terminator found another gear to produce his best 9-ball and go level pegging at 5-5 and soon 6-5.
Momentum was key to Feijen's showing with the break on lock, the Dutchman continued to bulldoze his way Filler in a way that very few have seen in recent time with no reply. Feijen continued on his way and pounced late when a costly push out from Filler was punished by the former to come through 9-5 in an impressive showing to meet either Max Lechner or Mohammad Soufi next up on Friday, 12 May.
Feijen said: "I ran the first rack then I am not at the table until 4-1. I was trying to feel the table out. I made an error at 4-1 and soon it was 5-1. From there, I played well, I got a warning for soft breaking, debatable in my opinion! I thought I was just hitting them a bit thin and off but then, that extra speed on the break and I got some opportunities and I played some nice shots. It's sometimes what you need!"

Premier Pool Promotions reports huge interest in UK 9Ball Tour
Hi Guys, Premier Pool Promotions has seen a huge interest in our UK 9Ball Tour however deposits need to be paid to guarantee the event goes ahead.
I think the format it fantastic offering the top players a reason to be the top players and opportunity for the non seeded players to become a seeded player from the following event, gain experience of playing under the same roof as many pro players and get lots of tournament table time.
More than enough players have messaged to say they would like to play but I'm now in the position of the players living a distance away would like to book hotels. 15 years of running events says nobody is 100% guaranteed until the entry few has been paid.
A decision will be made on Friday 6th October.
If you would like to see a new National Tour begin then please get in contact to arrange the deposit payment and share the poster to show your support.
If you sceptical due to GB9, I have always said if GB9 starts next year and there isn't room for two tours then I would step back.
I am fully in support of GB9 and hope it returns but if it doesn't at least we have a new National Tour to fall back on.
All I need is your support and I will do the rest.
Please share the poster with other players.

JOSHUA FILLER IS the Dynamic Billard St Johann im Pongau Open champion
as he defeated Poland’s Daniel Maciol 9-5 in an entertaining match.
Filler (Germany) can lay claim to his fifth Euro Tour title from 10
final appearances and with his consistent level of high-quality play,
there may be many more in store. For Maciol, it was his first Euro Tour
final in an eight-year career mixing it with Europe’s finest. In fact,
the quarter-finals were the furthest he’d ventured previously.
For the Pole, a slow start proved to be his downfall as he matched
Filler in the latter stages but the gap was always going to be too much
as the German put his foot down.
Commented Filler, “Today I felt fresh and came with so much energy and
maybe I frightened my opponent with my energy and my break was amazing.
There were times when I made three, four balls on the break and had the
position and that gives you more confidence, especially when you’re four
games up. Super proud and super happy.”

VERONIKA IVANOVSKAIA of Germany claimed victory at the EPBF St Johann
Open on the ladies’ Euro Tour as she defeated Bojana Sarac (Serbia) by
7-3 in the final. It was her first-ever ET title after having come so
close last time out in Tallinn where she went down 7-6 to Oliwia
Zalewska in the title match. Ranked #18 coming into the tournament,
Ivanovskaia will be climbing he rankings once they are recalculated
shortly.
It was her third Euro Tour final and Ivanovskaia finally got over the
line. She was naturally delighted with her performance.
“It feels incredible. I must say I’m overwhelmed with my emotions. After
losing out in Estonia, a very special person – my fiancé and coach –
told me that I’m on a very good wave and should just keep doing what I’m
doing and always believe in myself and today I think I proved to myself
that I have it in me’” she said.

WE ARE DOWN to the last 16 players after a full day’s play at the
Dynamic Billard St Johann Open and there will be plenty of Europe’s
big-name players vying for the title on Monday. There are four rounds of
matches tomorrow to determine the destination of the second Euro Tour
trophy of the season.
There are five Poles, three Austrians and three Germans among the last
16 but flying the flag for Norway in youngster Emil-Andre Gangflot, a
multiple gold medallist at the EPBF European Junior Championships.
It’s the first time he has reached the last 16 stage on the Euro Tour in
his fledgling career and he did it an excellent 9-1win over Czech David
Zalman. Undefeated so far, could Gangflot make a serious impact
tomorrow? He faces Daniel Guttenberger, who beat Niels Feijen by the
narrowest of margins, buoyed on by some local support around an outside
table.
Austrian Guttenberger has not done too much on the Euro Tour going back
to 2012 but has since reapplied himself to the game following the break
for the pandemic. A silver medal in 9-ball at last year’s European
Championships may well be a pointer to where his is headed.
Commented Daniel, “It was a crazy match again! Every time I play against
Niels, somehow, it’s hill-hill and crazy things happen and this time I
wanted to win so bad as I’d lost the last three times against him so I’m
proud that I put it together. For sure the crowd made me a bit nervous
and I was shaking!”

Day two round-up
Reporter: Luke Riches on behalf of the EPBF

DAY TWO UNFOLDED at the Dynamic Billard St Johann Open today as the
field reduced to the 32 players contesting the Winners’ Qualification
round on Sunday afternoon as well as a host of players still battling it
out on the one-loss side. In fact, there are 86 players remaining with
one defeat and the whole field plays down to the last 16 tomorrow.
One young player starting out in the professional world is Poland’s
Szymon Kural, who last November claimed the WPA World Junior
Championship (U19). Seemingly from a never-ending production line of
Polish talent, Kural is three wins from three here in St. Johann and can
look forward to a Winners’ Qualification match against Mario He on
Sunday afternoon.
Kural defeated Brit Sam Storey, Thomas Binder (Germany) and Attila
Bezden of Hungary to make his way through on the winners’ side. The 21
year-olds previous best Euro Tour efforts were two 33rd place finishes
so he has everything to play for as the event enters its third day.
Commented Kural, “I think I’ve played pretty good in all matches. Maybe
not perfect but I think it the last one was a good game with some really
good shots and really good racks. A few mistakes also but they weren’t
that important in the matches.
“Three comfortable wins so I’m waiting for Mario tomorrow in the
Winners’ Qualification. It will be a nice match and we will see. I think
it will be nice to get some rest before tomorrow’s match and I will
enjoy the views of St Johann because it’s a beautiful place. Maybe some
good food but I’m waiting for tomorrow,” he concluded.
Ruiz.
