Down to the last four in Manchester Quarter-Finals Shane Van Boening (USA) 8-5 Waleed Majid (QAT) Darren Appleton (ENG) 8-5 Johnny Archer (USA) Ralf Souquet (GER) 6-8 Mark Gray (ENG) The 2015 PartyPoker World Pool Masters is down to the last four as Shane Van Boening, Darren Appleton and Mark Gray all won through their afternoon quarter-final matches to join Liu Haitao in the semi-finals on Sunday night at the Victoria Warehouse. In the final match of the session, Mark Gray put in a terrific performance to defeat Ralf Souquet following an excellent comeback as the match slipped away from him. At 6-3 down Gray looked to have it all against him but a miss from the German put him back in and from there he never looked back. Said Gray, “I am well chuffed. I was 6-3 down and breaking very well. I took one rack away which I should have ran out and the other times I was breaking well but the white was getting kicked and wasn’t leaving me a shot. “Ralf got a shot every time but I stuck in there and at 6-3 he misses a long 1 ball and I cleared for 6-4. For somebody like me who isn’t known as a big breaker to get three break and runs at a crucial time is massive. “I had it yesterday against Ko Pin Yi. I was 7-3 up and he is known as one of the biggest breakers in the world and I went from 7-3 to 7-5 up without getting a shot and you think you are going to lose 7-8 without getting another shot. “Today I was in his position at 6-3 down but I knew if I could make balls off the break and have a shot I could still win, and that is what happened. “I am as good a potter as anybody else but breaking wise there are bigger breakers here than me. But I found the break and was running out there to win the match.

Liu through to semis as Souquet and Archer roll back years Round One Nikos Ekonomopoulos (GRE) 3-8 Ralf Souquet (GER) Johnny Archer (USA) 8-2 James Georgiadis (AUS) Quarter-Finals Niels Feijen (HOL) 6-8 Liu Haitao (CHN) Liu Haitao, the 33 year-old from Neimenggu, China became the first man through to the semi-finals of the PartyPoker World Pool Masters as he overcame Holland’s Niels Feijen in a hard fought match at the Victoria Warehouse. Liu, the sharp-shooting World No.10, had a great start, aided by two misses by Feijen and it allowed him to take a 6-2 lead. Feijen though regrouped and won the next three to get within one rack of Liu. Momentum was stalled though when he broke dry in rack 12 and Liu ran out to move to 7-5. Feijen won rack 13 to stay alive but a push out to a jump with no shot on the 1 ball let Liu regain momentum with a quality jump shot. From there he took the rack and the victory. “I had the better luck in that match than Niels did,” said Liu. “He made a simple mistake in the second rack and later in the eighth rack and they were key points. He made those mistakes and that put more pressure on him. “I am very pleased with how I played tonight, and I had some good luck. I am excited to have made it to the semi-finals of the tournament. I have played two top-level players and I know tomorrow I will face another tough opponent whoever it will be as everybody in the tournament is a world-class player. I will have to keep my focus and play at my highest level if I am to win the World Pool Masters.” For Feijen it was a disappointing evening; “I didn’t start so well. The crowd was completely different today, much quieter than last night. That had nothing to do with it but it made it a bit of a different setting. “I missed an easy 7 in the second rack but I think the break was the major thing in the match. I was hitting it well but I got some bad runs. From 6-2 I clawed my way to 6-5, I had started to play pretty well but then on the next break everything landing in front of a hole but nothing went in.

Double delight for English pair Waleed Majid (QAT) 8-4 Daryl Peach (ENG) Ko Pin Yi (TPE) 5-8 Mark Gray (ENG) Darren Appleton (ENG) 8-4 Mateusz Sniegocki (POL) Mosconi Cup team mates Darren Appleton and Mark Gray both enjoyed first round wins at the 2015 PartyPoker World Pool Masters as first round play continued on Saturday afternoon at the Victoria Warehouse, Manchester. First Gray turned over highly fancied Ko Pin Yi in an upset and then Darren made light work of Poland’s Mateusz Sniegocki. Earlier England’s Daryl Peach was ousted by up-and-coming Qatari star Waleed Majid. In the opening match of the session, seeded player Waleed Majid took care of an out-of-sorts Daryl Peach (England) by an 8-4 score line. There were plenty of errors as each player gifted the other chances as the score moved to 3-3. With ball in hand following Majid’s failed escape from a snooker, Peach messed up as he missed the 6 to hand the rack back. The Qatari though scratched on the break and from there Peach ran out for 3-3. A miss from Peach allowed Waleed Majid to take the rack and four balls down off the next break set up another run out for a 5-3 lead. He took the next two to reach the hill at 7-3. Peach was not quite done though and with a cluster of balls gathered around the corner pocket, Peach put Majid in a tight snooker. With the cue ball completely obscured, the Qatari failed to make contact. With ball in hand Peach did the same again before a third foul won him the frame.

Shane Van Boening (USA) 8-6 John Morra (CAN) Niels Feijen (HOL) 8-6 Marcus Chamat (SWE) Liu Haitao (CHN) 8-7 Karl Boyes (ENG) There were three wins for the three seeded players as the 2015 PartyPoker World Pool Masters got underway at the Victoria Warehouse in Manchester on Friday evening. In front of an enthusiastic crowd there were wins for defending champ Shane Van Boening, 2013 victor Niels Feijen and China’s Liu Haitao in the final match of the session. Liu had faced England’s Karl Boyes who had enjoyed some rowdy support in the arena. It was an absorbing encounter with the most dramatic of endings as Boyes came back from 7-5 down to level the match at 7-7. The final rack came down to the last two balls as Boyes looked to complete an exhilarating run out for the win. After an array of outstanding shot making, he missed the easiest of 8 balls, a short prod into the top corner pocket. The crowd were stunned and it gifted the match to Liu. The Chinese knocked the hanging 8 ball in and the left himself a long cut on the 9 but pulled it of to move into the quarter finals.
The Chinese star had always led as Boyes struggled to get going but the Englishman stuck with him. When his chance came at the end he took it, up to a point. “I still feel very excited by the win because Karl Boyes is a great player and the atmosphere was very excitable,” said Liu.

The annual 10-ball competition on the national calendar returns as the Park Inn by Radisson hotel in Telford stages the GB 9 Ball Tour Northern Masters for the third time. First staged as a 10-ball competition back in 2012, this competition has been hotly contested every year since becoming a part of the GB9 calendar. The call shot nature of this code meets very well with most if not all players on tour, and as such has since become a firm favourite with both players and fans. Its similarities with 9-ball make the code easy to understand and follow, whilst the elimination of most flukes and lucky shots makes the code even more enjoyable for the purists. We are sure that all competitors will once again give it their all to put their name on the Northern Masters trophy and win one of the biggest 10-ball events on the continent.

Niels Feijen took a commanding lead at the top of the European Mosconi Cup ranking list after winning his second Euro Tour title of the year at the weekend. The Dutchman was MVP at last year’s PartyPoker Mosconi Cup, which saw Europe earn an 11-5 victory over Team USA in front of a record-breaking crowd in Blackpool, England and he had already won the Italian Open on the Euro Tour earlier this year. His win in the Dynamic Austria Open at the weekend saw him open up a 14-point lead at the top of the Euro Tour ranking list, meaning a quarter-final or better finish on home soil at the Dynamic Dutch Open in October will guarantee him a spot on this year’s European team. Feijen defeated Petri Makkonen at the quarter-final stage in Austria, meaning the Finnish star was displaced at the top of the rankings. However he remains in second place with European captain Marcus Chamat in third after he too reached the last eight.

T9B Amateur/Rookie Search for a Star Event 2015 The St Albans Hurricane Room Unit 8 Verulam Industrial Estate 224 London Road St Albans Hertfordshire AL1 1JF www.hurricaneroom.co.uk www.total9ball.com - entrants and chat
Saturday 1 August 2015
Click the image to view the large photograph - use "back" to return here. King Cassidy Rules at T9B Search For a Star Event
Saturday 1st August saw the annual T9B Search For A Star (Rookie) event take place. 36 players in total competed for the beautiful glass trophy, prize money on the day, a £250 T9B sponsorship deal and an elusive space within the T9B Champion Of Champions Event. The format was 9ball pool with alternate breaks and each match was a race to 7 racks plus handicaps (Max -1 rated players). Each player would compete in three random league stage matches with the top 16 players ranked in order of matches won followed by racks won as a second separator. The league stages sure were going to be cutthroat as the sport of 9ball is itself, as less than 50% of players would qualify, meaning some players with 2 out of 3 wins would miss out based on racks won. The power was in the players hands before a ball was hit as 3/3 wins would guarantee qualification but 2/3 you would be relying on results.
The Annual Search for a Star event always creates a fantastic buzz as without some of Total9ball's top plays involved it's felt this is a massively open event and any player who plays with confidence on the day can be the eventual winner.
Thanks to Dynamic Billard for sponsoring this event.
