NEW OB PLUS SHAFTS ABOUT TO LAUNCH!

We are very excited to announce the launch of a new era for our company and a new era for performance pool cue shafts. Since 2005, the design and performance of the OB Shafts have remained mostly unchanged....until now.

Introducing OB Plus Shafts:

•     The original laminated SR6 construction that we have used for the last 9 years has now been changed to a solid maple SR6+ construction.

•     All new OB Plus Shafts will come with a 100% lifetime warranty against warpage!

•     The tip end mass in the new shafts has been reduced by an average of 13%. Less tip end mass is the primary key to less cueball deflection. You reduce the tip end mass and you reduce cueball deflection.

•     The carbon fiber pad and ferrule have been redesigned for improved strength and performance. The pad on the Classic+ and Pro+ shafts is now recessed into the top of the ferrule. The ferrule material on the Classic+ and Pro+ shafts is now Linen Melamine which is even stronger than before.

•     The maple that we are using on all of the new shafts is a higher grade that looks better and feels smoother.

In summary, our new shafts are built stronger, have a 100% warpage warranty, play better, look better, feel better and are still 100% Made in the USA!

At Times Unplayable Symons Multiplies his cash at Total9Ball MM2 event

Total9ball was again in St Albans yesterday for the second edition of the Money Multiplier Series. The Money Multiplier event is open to T9B graded players B or below. T9B Money Multiplier events offer the first 32 paying players the chance to play for some tremendous guaranteed prize money that increases at each event, The event is run with no handicaps, each player plays a minimum of two matches per event and the entry fee is kept low to cater of all players. It’s easy to see why places in this event sell up so quickly as it’s the hottest ticket in UK 9ball right now.

A very strong 32 player field was assembled for this event, I guess the £650 Jackpot prize was always going to attract the big guns. It was great to see so many quality players from years gone by returning to play competitive 9ball pool under the T9B banner, they included Anthony Ginn, Martin Correira, Matt Hyden Mark Stephenson and Tommy Donlon. Mix those names with Courtney Symons, Damien Massey, Luke Rollison, Ramesh Gokhul, Shaun Storry and Tony Burton. Wow this event was going to take some winning.

Matches began at 10am and there was certainly a buzz in the Hurricane Room as each player knew playing to the best of their ability and some luck at the right time would stand them in good stead to take home the loot and the beautiful T9B glass trophy. Courtney Symons day began with a good bit of sportsmanship as his match was pushed back as Paul Taylor was stuck on a delayed train. T9B rules state the match should be awarded to Courtney but he decided Paul's reasons were valid and the game should be played when Paul arrived. Courtney did get the better of Paul 9v5 and advanced into round two. Lionel Brown’s day couldn’t of started with a much harder task as he drew Tommy Donlon. Lionel however pushed Tommy all the way to an exciting hill-hill finish, unfortunately Lionel finished up just short and Tommy booked his place in the next round. Tom Staveley made a brilliant start to this event defeating Ramesh Gokhul 9v7 and Luke Rollison 9v6.

Thanks to Dynamic Billard for sponsoring this event.

GRANITE HOLDS FIRM FOR SECOND PAUL MEDATI TITLE

The sixth Paul Medati Trophy has been contested in Daventry, Northamptonshire, with Mark Gray, Karl Boyes, Damian Massey and Mark Lunn sealing victory at the Daventry Court Hotel.

The second main event final of the season saw two seasoned professionals, Mark Gray and Karl Boyes, battle it out to take home what would be their second Paul Medati Trophy – Boyes having win the title in 2009, with Gray taking the title off him the following year.

Gray opened his account with a 9-3 victory over Scotland’s Colin Connor, putting him into the final winners bracket qualification to face Nottingham’s Dave Hopkin. Another 9-3 victory put him safely through into the last 32 and setting up a match with another Dave. This time it was Dave Evans looking to chip away at the Granite, but a 9-4 defeat took Evans out of the competition and saw Gray advance. His last 16 opponent was another GB9 stalwart in the form of Adam Benn Smith, but Gray was in no mood to mess around as he wrapped up a stunning 9-0 victory to line up a quarter final against Jez Graham. His third 9-3 victory of the competition saw Gray dispatch Graham and face Darlington’s Phil Burford in the semi finals. Gray’s excellent record of relatively low scores in the competition continued here, as he saw out a 9-5 win to deny Burford his second consecutive main event final and secure his own spot in the final.

A 9-3 victory also opened up Karl Boyes’ account in this year’s Paul Medati Trophy, as he took out Estonia’s Denis Grabe in the opening round. His winners bracket qualification match saw him up against Adam Stevens. He had no answer to Guapo’s game and, with a 9-1 scoreline, Boyes saw himself through to a last 32 bout with another long time GB9 player in Neil Margossian. Boyes’ ruthless streak continued with a 9-2 thrashing of Margossian, but it was all change in the last 16 as he faced a gruelling encounter with Yorkshire’s Dave Nelson. Two of northern England’s finest 9-ball players fought out a good quality contest, but Boyes edged through 9-7 to secure a spot in the final 8. Wolverhampton’s Kevin Uzzell, 2011 Southern Masters Champion, fell short of adding another main event to his CV – Boyes dispatched him 9 racks to 4 and took himself into a semi final with Michael Rhodes. Boyes had secured five different margins of victory already and a sixth was to follow, as Rhodes became Boyes’ latest victim in a 9-6 defeat, a defeat which put Boyes into the final to meet Gray.

The final, contested on the beautiful Rasson Victory table, was a case of Gray taking the lead and keeping a firm grip on it. He ran out an 11 racks to 5 winner to pick up his second Paul Medati Trophy title, adding to his victory in the 2010 competition.

Golden Double for Lithuania in Riga

The Baltic Pool League continued this weekend with the second stage in Riga, Latvia. The newly built Bams Pool House, with 12 brand new Dino Sport Pro tables with very tight pockets, was the host of this event. For the second time in the event's 4 year history the golden double went to Lithuania as Domas Mineikis won the men's event and Simona Miliśauskaite matched it in women's and oldboy's event.

Mineikis finally reached the top

It was long expected when Mineikis finally made his mark in Baltic pool as he has been on the verge of it three times already. Namely his first two appearances in final, which did not end with success, but this time he made sure to finally make it. His opponent in the final was Estonian youngster and 2013 Baltic Pool League Final winner Mark Mägi. In the eventful final, packed with mistakes, it was Mineikis that pocketed the last 9 ball to make a statement for his bright future in pool by a score of 8:6. Mägi narrowly escaped defeat in his semi final as he beat his fellow countryman Oliver Lepp by the smallest of margins 8:7. Peteris Ermansons (LAT) was the one that had to accept the superiority of Mineikis by a score of 8:6 in his semi final. Overall Mineikis did not lose a match and his win only emphasised the fact that the youngster has a bright future in pool.

Rollison Back in Top Gear at T9B Mid Season Grand Finals

T9B rolled back into St Albans on Saturday 31st May 2014, this time for the T9B Amateur Series Mid-Season Grand Finals. 18 players qualified for this event of which 13 were available to make the trip to sunny St Albans. The stipulation to enter this event was, you must have attended a minimum of three events out of the first five events played so far this season. Thanks to our sponsors Dynamic Billard, T9B were able to offer a Euro Tour spot place for the winner to an event of their choice and for good measure to increase the value of this event, T9B also added £200 sponsorship money towards the flight and hotel costs of the winning player.

So who would perform the best on the day and take down this event? Again the double chance format was used, giving players two chances at the main prize and one chance at the jackpot. The Amateur Series "Break-Dish Roll-Up" also continued. So there was plenty of pool for all to enjoy.

The event began with the seeded side of the draw, this was based on the rankings from the first five events within the 2013/2014 Amateur Series. Rattapol Sassmann, Dave Evans and Mark Parker all received byes as they were the players currently ranked 1, 2 and 3. Phil Wildman ranked in 4th battled back to win 7v6 from 5v1 down against Lionel Brown, while Luke Rollison ranked 5th defeated Steve Davison 7v5. Courtney Symons gave Ken Ng a large handicap head start but classy Symons advanced to Round Two. On to the second half of the draw and it seems Dave Evans can’t stay away from Mark Parker lately, I’m starting to think they like each other. After a win for Dave at the recent GB9 event the two met again this time at T9B. Evans again came out on top. Tom Staveley had to battle hard right to the death as Mike Stanley pushed him all the way but it was Tom whose name was added to Round Two.

Thanks to Dynamic Billard for sponsoring this event.

Abubaker wins Simonis Northern 9-ball Open

After a successful start to the 2014 season at the fantastic ‘BWPPA/BWCSA Pool Academy’ at Stoke Mandeville, it was back to one of our favourite venues, as the Escape Pool Bar in Barnsley hosted the 2nd BWPPA event of the season on 17/18 May 2014.

Aslam Abubaker extended his lead at the top of the rankings from Tony Southern, as he won his fourth event out of five on the BWPPA tour.

Both players had been the dominant forces on the tour recently, with both contesting the last 2 finals, with 1 win each, and it was to be no different this time, as they again clashed the final, although they both made it to the final the hard way through the losers side, after suffering early losses in this double elimination format.
