Fantastic Staveley Strikes again at High Wycombe Hurricane Room
Total9Ball kicked off it's season of novelty events with the "Old Skool Championship" held at the beautiful High Wycombe Hurricane Room. T9B is using the Buckinghamshire club more often this season and we urge players to come along and try out the newly refurbished club as like St Albans we rate the club and it's facilities as some of the best in the country.
The format ‘Old Skool’ took the rules back to basics of many moons ago, No magic racks, No 3 point Rule and Winner Breaks which really put a different spin on the event and created a great atmosphere. The event began at 10.30am with players being divided into 4 groups with the top two players from each qualifying for the Quarter Finals stage. Players, if level on match wins, were separated by rack difference and then racks won.
This was a very popular format going back a few years as it means players get a lot of table time for their entry fee and get to test themselves against a few different players over the day win or lose. The group stages format always seems to draw a group of death and today wasn’t to be any different with Tom Staveley drawing the numbers.

Konstantin Stepanov (RUS) Thrilling final match with a well deserved winner
In a final match which was packed with emotions and action, Konstantin Stepanov (RUS) defeated Daniele Corrieri (ITA) with 9:7.
A foul which Corrieri committed in the second rack allowed Stepanov to take a small advantage from the very beginning. The Russian did not decline that invitation and went ahead with a 2:0 lead. Throughout the match, Stepanov was able to keep that small distance to Corrieri. He was always one or two points ahead of his opponent. After 13 racks, Stepanov went on the hill with 8:5. But Corrieri did not think about giving up. He tried everything to stay alive in the match and claim his first Euro-Tour title. Stepanov had already won the Euro-Tour in Treviso, Italy, earlier this year, but of course was also keen on another victory. Corrieri managed to win two more racks and had his own break in rack 16, trailing only 7:8. Unfortunately for him, he got a dry break and no position on the 1-ball. Stepanov passed the table back to him and the pressure on the Italian's shoulders grew massively. He needed to come up with a good safety shot or push-out. And he did. He played a great push-out and Stepanov let him play again. Corrieri solved the problem and had a shot at the 2-ball but missed it in the side pocket. Lady Luck was on his side though since the cue ball was hiding behind another object ball. Stepanov had to play over a rail and completely missed the 2-ball. Foul shot by Stepanov meant ball in hand for Corrieri. What a final match, packed with drama and excitement! Corrieri's arms seemed to be made of rubber, every shot was hard for him to play. However, he pocketed ball after ball until he ran out of position for the 7-ball. The cue ball stopped with the 9-ball obstructing the line of sight for the 7-ball. Three balls away from a hill-hill match and suddenly this bad position! He attempted a jump shot but committed a foul. Stepanov cleared the remaining balls and took his second Euro-Tour title this year, winning the final of the Dynamic Billard North Cyprus Open 2013 with 9:7.

| Abubaker Wins the British 10-ball Championships |
2013 BWPPA Event No.4 - The Talisman 10 Ball Championship Escape Pool Bar 47-51 Peel Street Barnsley S70 2RL 01226 779 347 www.bwppa.com www.bwppa.com www.poolbarpool.co.uk
Saturday/Sunday 28/29 September 2013
Abubaker Takes No.1 Spot in the Rankings
Escape Pool Bar in Barnsley was the venue for the 4th BWPPA event of the season on 28/29 September 2013.
Aslam Abubaker won his 2nd tour event in a row beating Ireland’s Fred Dinsmore in the final, and with it became only the 4th player in the history of the tour to take the top spot in the rankings.
Abubaker went into the event as one of 4 or 5 players still in realistic contention for the no.1 spot at the end of the season which not only brings with it its own prestige, but also a lovely Icon 2-7 cue from our generous friends at Predator.
Again we had a good turnout as 15 players entered, although some missed the event through illness and several players who made the event were suffering with colds and coughs !!. Ireland’s Fred Dinsmore again making the trip, and he was one of the ones not well, but still had a good weekend, making the final.

MATCHROOM SPORT are delighted to announce the winners of two top-of-the-range Predator cues as part of the VIP Prize Draw made following the 888.com World Cup of Pool at York Hall, London.
Pool fans who had purchased VIP tickets were entered into the draw, with Jon Shapland winning a brand new Predator BK3 break cue. Faster, Stronger, and more powerful, Predator created the BK3 after two years of research and development. The BK3 features more than a dozen design changes from the renowned BK2, providing more power for that all important first-shot and making it the world’s best cue.
Londoner Steven Baker was the winner of the all new Predator Sport2 high-performance playing cue. Engineered to exacting standards, the Sport2 features a four-piece hard maple butt construction, the tunable Uni-Loc® Weight Cartridge System, and the all new Sport2 grip featuring five different traction zones.
BK3 break cue winner Jon Shapland said: “When I was contacted to saying I'd won the BK3 cue I was absolutely chuffed. Predator are the elite cue-makers and their equipment is used by a lot of the professional players, so I'm very happy to get my hands on a top-quality bit of kit!”
Steven Baker, who won the Sport2 cue said: “I got the message that I had won and couldn’t stop smiling. My friend and I had been looking at the Predator cues after the championships discussing how good they were, so first things first, I phoned him and rubbed the good news in his face, with the challenge of a Saturday game. I can’t wait to break the new cue out and show my stuff!”

In 2006, I co-promoted the Mosconi Cup, when it was held in Rotterdam's Cruise Terminal. That's when my work for Matchroom Sport began with the Mosconi Cup logo, which is now recognised worldwide. Since, the logo has been tweaked and refreshed.
My design work extends to the World Pool Masters, World Cup of Pool, World Championship of Ping Pong, Weber Cup, Fish'O'Mania and Prize Fighter. Designing artwork for these events starts with an event logo: it needs to appeal directly towards its audience, incorporate the main sponsor's logo and be suitable for TV and other applications.
Generally, the design of an event logo is followed by the conception of a poster, flyer, programme and diverse internet banners. Making sure all artwork is consistent in style is key, because we want to project a professional image and live up to Matchroom Sport's reputation. Each event has become an acclaimed brand which the audience, the fans and partners can relate to.
I've been using the CorelDraw Suite - vector and bitmap oriented - since 1993, back then, release 3 and nowadays, X5. People frequently ask why I'm not using Adobe software (Photoshop and Illustrator). Well, my background is industrial design engineering and 3D CAD software used to run exclusively on MS-DOS, later Windows. Hence, the choice for the CorelDraw Suite, which runs in Windows, whereas Adobe graphic design software used to run only on Apple. I've become an expert in CorelDraw and Corel Photopaint. So, I stick to it.
Come to think of it, mentioning sticks, let's play pool!

He’s Back!
SIX YEARS after his last appearance in the PartyPoker.net Mosconi Cup, EARL STRICKLAND is back! The 52 year-old veteran will make his 14th Mosconi Cup appearance at the Mirage, Las Vegas from 2 to 5 December as he joins Johnny Archer, Rodney Morris, Dennis Hatch and Shane Van Boening for the 20th anniversary edition of pool’s biggest event.
‘The Pearl’ has enjoyed and endured a love/hate relationship with the event ever since his winning debut in 1996, but his 65% win percentage over 13 Mosconi Cups is still a record for the competition. Strickland has been on the winning team on no less than nine occasions and following his recent win at Turning Stone, there is a popular feeling that he is playing as good as he ever has.
“It is wonderful to have Earl back on the Mosconi Cup team this year. We all know that he brings fire and that intimidation factor to our team and the 20th Mosconi Cup would not be the same without Earl there,” US captain Johnny Archer.

Mika makes five for Team Europe
MIKA IMMONEN, a three time PartyPoker.net Mosconi Cup winner, will be going all out for title number four when he makes his 15th appearance in the annual Europe v America 9 ball battle at the Mirage Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas from 2nd to 5th December.
The New York-based Finn last played in 2010 when he was on the winning side in London and you would need to look all the way back to 1996 when he made his debut alongside the likes of Steve Davis and Ronnie O’Sullivan in a narrow 15-13 defeat.
Immonen is the only player ever to bag two MVP awards – in Las Vegas in 2003 and Malta in 2008 - and he has a 53% win record over 70 matches played. He now joins Ralf Souquet, Darren Appleton, Karl Boyes and Niels Feijen in a side that has 42 Mosconi Cup appearances between them.
“I'm absolutely proud to be joining Ralf, Darren, Niels and Karl and I think that is a pretty solid looking team,” said Immonen.

| Official report from T9B Rookie Event 1 - Updated Report |
T9B The Double Chance Amateur/Rookie Series 2013 The St Albans Hurricane Room Unit 8 Verulam Industrial Estate 224 London Road St Albans Hertfordshire AL1 1JF www.hurricaneroom.co.uk www.t9b.co.uk - entrants - chat - live score
Saturday 28 September 2013
Click the image to view the large photograph - use "back" to return here. The Twomey Run Away Train Steams on
So the Total9Ball Amateur Series is back with the 2013/14 edition and it looks better than ever. T9B this season added Dynamic Billiards to the ever growing list of sponsors who are offering Euro Tour places so the opportunity is there for players to not only compete at the beautiful Hurricane Room club in St Albans but perhaps in other locations around Europe this season.
28 players headed for St Albans yesterday for event one of the ten event series. Matches remained as a race to seven with all players being assigned a handicap ranging from -3 to +3. Each player who enters a T9B Amateur Series event gets entered into the draw twice and is therefore hoping to win all matches to meet themselves in the Final, if a player achieves this not only do they scoop the Winners and Runners up prize money but they will also receive the accumulated jackpot prize which increases at each event and currently stands at an impressive £150. Matches began at 10am and there seemed to be a tense atmosphere as each player was obviously hoping to start the season well and score some good early ranking points.
Richard Twomey (The Twominater) took the final T9B event of last season... The Masters which was an event of single elimination and races to 14. Richard looked completely at home during this event but could he produce the same form over this event with shorter races? Twomey completed round one without defeat but only by the skin of his teeth as Karim Moloo pushed him all the way only to ended up falling one rack short losing 7-6, Karim is a relatively new player to T9B events however he is looking better and better at each event he attends and I’m sure it won’t be long before Moloo gets to a Final of an event or even better wins one. Twomey had a bye in his other match so kept his two lives after round one.
