England B is Peach and Melling

WITH THE home nation allowed two teams in the forthcoming World Cup of Pool, the second England side will comprise 2007 World Pool Champion Daryl Peach and Chris Melling, last year’s Mosconi Cup MVP.

They will be joining England A - Darren Appleton and Karl Boyes – in the 32 team draw for the $250,000 team event which is now entering its eighth year. Taking place for the first time in England, the World Cup will be staged at the York Hall in London, where the Mosconi Cup has taken place on eight raucous occasions.

Commented Daryl Peach, “It's great to be back where I belong, in the World Cup of Pool, especially being alongside Chris Melling.”

Peach, who played in the inaugural World Cup with Steve Davis in 2006, came close in 2008 with Mark Gray when they finished runners-up to the USA in Rotterdam.

“Both Chris and I have our eyes firmly set on going one step further this year. There are lots of other great teams with great partnerships too, but being on home soil, at the legendary York Hall will separate the men from the boys! Let’s get it on!”

Tickets for MCXX are now on sale

WITH THE 20th anniversary of the PartyPoker.net Mosconi Cup set to take place at the Mirage Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas from Monday to Thursday 2nd – 5th December, Matchroom Sport can announce that the hottest tickets in pool are now on sale.

With two five-man teams set to do battle in a series of singles and doubles matches over four days, the Mosconi Cup delivers the kind of excitement and fervour that is unmatched in the pool world and will be making its debut at the Mirage following five successful stagings at the MGM Grand.

With America on the receiving end of five defeats in the past six years, the home team will be looking to a big crowd at the Mirage to give them the type of boost the Europeans enjoyed in London in 2010 and last year.

All sessions start at 11.00am and conclude around 4.00pm leaving the evening free to take in the sites of Las Vegas.

Tickets are priced at $35 per session and $120 for a four session season pass. All tickets will include a resort fee levelled MGM Resorts as well as any service charges applicable.

Tickets are available from www.ticketmaster.com (Search ‘Mosconi Cup’) or directly from the Mirage on (+1) 702 792 7777 or 1-800-963-9634.

Mark Parker wins the Essex Open at his home club - and he's the Runner Up too!

Parker becomes T9B Double Winner

Well first of all, what a fantastic event that was hosted in Basildon. The club facilities were very good and the manager of the club was really pleased to have a Total9ball event in his venue and have invited us back. The club had 8 Sam’s 9ball tables all of which were in very good condition and were all brushed in the morning by the club manager. It's clear Basildon in London is a hot spot for players and we expect when T9B returns... We could attract lots more players.

Yesterday's event used the 2x Double Chance format and also there was a King Of The Hill (1 rack shoot-out) side event.

The draw was completed by Craig Osborne and matches began shortly after 10.30am. The first match drawn saw home players Mark Parker and Ernie Mulryne go at it. It was clear right from the start of the event that Mark was going to be a hard player to beat in his home practice venue. Parker recorded a 7v4 win. Mark 'The Essex Panther' Parker in the other half of the draw showed no remorse as he defeated Rattapol Sassmann 7v1.

Other results in round one saw Courtney Symons get one up on Phil Wildman winning 7v3, there is a possibility Symons and Wildman may clash again at some point during next Saturday's Amateur Series Grand Finals. Craig Osborne's day began with two 7v1 victories over Ernie Mulryne and Geoff Windeatt. Craig only dropped 10 racks across his first 6 matches and looked to be again setting the standard very high, could he be stopped? Richard Twomey's day also started well as he won matches 7v1 against traveling companion Terry Arnold and 7v3 over local talent Rob Donkin.

CSI's US Open 8-Ball Taken by Shane Van Boening

Shane Van Boening has won the US Open 8-Ball Title by defeating Carlo Biado 13-11 in the finals at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Van Boening arrived in the finals unscathed, never having been defeated on his trip through the charts.

Carlo Biado had been on a roll of his own, defeating two-time World Champion Jia-Qing Wu 8-6. but he ran into another hot hand in the form of Jayson Shaw and very quickly found himself nearly snowballed at 8-.1. The drama for Biado had only begun to unfold. His first opponent on the one-loss side was none other than his friend and respected elder player Francisco Bustamante. The two countrymen fought it out to a squeaker with Biado sliding through 8-7.

Biado then had to get past both Sean Cheng and Warren Kiamco to progress. He dispatched them both with the identical scores of 8-6. All of that work just to have to face the man who had sent him left again as he had to take on Jayson Shaw as Shaw had lost to Walter Cheng 8-2.

Shaw, who had so dominated the first meeting of the two, never had a chance to breathe. Biado got his revenge in style with an 8-2 thrashing. He then had to face Walter Cheng to see who would get the final shot at Shane Van Boening.

Many westerners are not familiar with Cheng. He is a former Taiwanese 9-Ball and 10-Ball National Champion. All week he had been making any ball he could see. As we had seen throughout the tournament the break would play a huge role in the outcome of the match. Successful break shots lead to run outs.

Appleton and Boyes are England A

WITH THE World Cup of Pool taking place in England for the first time in the eight year history of the event, established international stars Darren Appleton and Karl Boyes will be making up the England A team for their assault on the most prestigious title in team pool.

World No.1 Appleton, who represented England in the World Cup in 2009, ‘11 and ’12, is the reigning World 9 Ball champion as well as back-to-back winner of the 2010 and ’11 US Open.

“I’m delighted to finally be playing with Karl and the main reasons are that we have a great record playing doubles and winning money matches in Philippines”, said Appleton.

“We also played great when we won World Team Championships and we’ve also played some doubles in English 8 ball.

“We gel together which is very important, and he listens to his captain! To be in the York Hall will be awesome and myself and Karl have got some great memories from the 2010 Mosconi Cup when we both played well and won our doubles.

“It's going to be carnage and England A or B are going to be tough to beat and I for one can't wait. I’m convinced this is the year England finally triumphs.”

Blackpool-based Boyes will be making his second appearance in the event having partnered Daryl Peach in 2010 when the England side were ignominiously dumped out of the competition by France.

“I am very happy to have been invited me back to play in the World Cup of Pool,” said the 2010 World 8 Ball Champion.

“In my eyes Matchroom sports events are the pinnacle of our sport and when I don't play in them I find it hard to concentrate all year round. So to be back with an opportunity and with my long time friend Darren has given me the boost I needed.

Liam Monk takes his first T9B title

The final event of the Total9Ball Amateur Series was held at St Albans Hurricane Room on Saturday 13th July. 24 players competed in this event all trying to secure their places in the Grand Finals held on the 27th July.

Again it was great to see new faces involved in this T9B event and the first ever woman entrant... Alexandra Cunha originally from Portugal is a very keen cueist and she proved she can mix it with the best amateur 9ballers in the country.

24 players entered which was a good attendance bearing in mind the heat however The Hurricane Room had the air con on full blast so the event was go go go.

Swedish 10-Ball - Chawki and Ouschan take the trophies in Stockholm

A home team win was celebrated in the men's event as Sweden's Jim Chawki trounced Russia's Ruslan Chinakhov 9-4 in the final in Stockholm this weekend. Chawki also despatched last year's champion, Mark Gray in the semi-final with an equally strong 9-6 scoreline, whilst Chinakhov's semi-final victory came at the expense of another Swede, Christian Fischer, to earn his chance in the final.

In the women's event Jasmin Ouschan took top honours, going throughout the tournament without loss and edging Poland's Oliwia Czuprynska 8-6. Caroline Roos was Sweden's top female player, fighting back from the one-loss side of the draw, and only finally stopped by Czuprynska in the semi-final.

Always touted to be one of the largest independent European tournaments of the year, the Swedish 10-Ball Open really does offer fantastic value for money to players making the trip to Stockholm. No other tournament in Europe this year can offer the same potential return on investment with a handsome total prize fund of €20,000 (€4,000 to the winner) and just 96 entrants in the men's event. - do the maths and you'll see what I mean.

The field features a breadth of talent from all over Europe - Britain is ably represented by the defending champion Mark Gray and 2012 semi-finalist Daryl Peach, the Netherlands have Niels Feijen and Ivo Aarts in attendance, and as you would expect, the host nation of Sweden is very well represented with local hot-shots Jim Chawki, Tom Storm, and the ever-present Marcus Chamat among the best known names.

The women's event forms part of the Women's Euro Tour - and both tournaments will have live scoring available at the official website.

Hosted again this year at the fabulously sexy looking "JoLo & Co" - their slogan "Billard Met Guldkant" which translates roughly as "Pool With A Gold Lining" - means that players can expect nothing but the best in equipment and cuisine while pursuing the "Guld".

2013 Longoni Benelux Open - Van den Berg defeats Souquet

For the fifth consecutive year the Longoni Benelux Open was staged at De Loft in Leuven (Belgium). With a guaranteed prize fund of € 10,000 and a coveted Longoni cup, the qualification rounds drew 167 entries. Elite players, such as reigning champion Daryl Peach, Niels Feijen, Ralf Souquet, Tony Drago, Nick van den Berg, Imran Majid and champion of the inaugural edition Andreas Roschkowsky, turned up to exhibit their spectacular showmanship.

After a long fought battle, from 9.00 am until past midnight, the new champion emerged: ‘El Niño’ Nick van den Berg. He defeated none other than ‘The Kaiser’ Ralf Souquet, who made his first appearance at the Longoni Benelux Open. The conditions were tough, tight pockets and ironically great weather, which made it tropically hot in the venue.

El Niño was still quite fresh, though, as he asked for the time, prior to the semi final. “It’s 11 o’clock”. Upon which he reacted flabbergasted: “Nooo… I thought it was only 8 o’clock”. Nick reached the final undefeated, ousting German upcoming young talent Can Salim, Dutch outsider Fauzi Halaby, Ralf Souquet to reach the quarter final and Imran Majid for the hot seat.

PRO9 has established an outstanding reputation as Europes No.1 source for information on American Pool in the UK and Europe. Upcoming tournament details, prompt match reporting, exclusive images by talented photographers, superb articles by expert pundits, active pool related forums, player profiles and a very sophisticated membership - basically, an incredible information resource for the American style game in Europe.
Since it launched, PRO9 has become compulsory reading, not just for the UKs pool players, but to hundreds and thousands of pool obsessives from around the world every single day.
PRO9s members range from professional pool players, cue-sports enthusiasts, club managers, tournament organisers, pool fans and aficionados, as well as various "movers and shakers" in the cue-sports field, including entrepreneurs in the wholesale and retail sector, as well as magazine editors and television sports promoters.
Growing more and more popular every single year, PRO9 is the best placed vehicle for the promotion of your pool club, billiards brand, associated products, services and opportunities in the truly massive pan-European billiard market.
