Match 6 – Las Vegas Dice vs. Toronto Blue Sharks.

The Weeks action concluded with The Las Vegas Dice taking on The Toronto Blue Sharks.

Game One was a back and forth battle for the most part until Toronto finally took advantage of a Las Vegas mistake with just under a minute remaining, They calmly ran the final 9 points of the game using every second of the game clock to finish the final ball and take a 30-19 regulation victory and 2-0 match lead.

Game two needed a shootout to decide the points. Davis and Williams trailed 21-9 going into the shootout but managed to secure a point for the team by running 21 straight off the break and shoot and reaching 30. Toronto then came to the table needing only 9 points to secure their own point in the match. Morra and Klatt made short work of those to make the match score 3-1 Toronto.

Game three was all Las Vegas as Schmidt and Davis broke and ran the first 15 points of the game and then won a safety battle with Klatt and Hjorleifson to finish off the Canadians with a 30-0 regulation victory and earn 3 points for their team. Score now 4-3 Las Vegas.

Deadline for entries: 3 June 2013

The GB 9 Ball Tour makes a welcome return to Yorkshire shortly as the 2013 Northern Masters 10-ball event is contested at the spectacular Cedar Court Hotel in Bradford.

The success of last year’s 10-ball event, where Daryl Peach achieved a remarkable comeback against Shaun Storry in winning the 2012 edition of this competition, has led to the GB9 team bringing back this increasingly popular code of pool. Not since November 2009 has there been a professional American pool event held in Yorkshire, with that year’s Northern Masters held at the former Riley’s in Barnsley. Many would say this tournament is a long time coming and a lot of local players will surely be relishing the prospect of playing American pool on their doorstep. With two of the world’s best and most exciting players hailing from Yorkshire – Keighley’s Chris Melling and Pontefract’s Darren Appleton – it’s no wonder the area is home to some of the best talent Britain has to offer on the pool scene and it’s that which promises to make this competition the most exciting so far this season.

Corey Deuel Captures National Snooker Championship Title
by Alan Morris (United States Snooker Association)

Corey Deuel has made a successful transformation to snooker as the former U.S. Open 9-Ball Pool Champion has now added the 2013 United States National Snooker Championship title to his collection with victory at Snooker 147 Bar & Grill in Houston, Texas.

It has been an incredible event for the 35-year-old from Florida as he was fortunate to qualify from the group phase after suffering two defeats out of four matches, placing runner-up to the five-time champion Tom Kollins, but he slowly forged his way into the Championship and gathered momentum with each match played to reach the final against the defending champion, Sargon Isaac.

Ana Mazhirina (RUS)

Tough victory over favoured Ouschan in the final

With a strong performance, Ana Mazhirina (RUS) conquered the crown of the Ballazzo Women's Euro-Tour in St. Johann/Pg. in Austria over local star Jasmin Ouschan (AUT) with 7:4.

Mazhirina already played a very good semi-final match with Ina Kaplan (GER) where she clearly remained the upper hand with 7:3. Ouschan had more problems with Nataliya Seroshtan (RUS) but after she was trailing 1:4, she was able to turn the match and win it in the end with 7:4. The final match started very much alike. Mazhirina had some better rolls including a 9-ballbreak which brought her a 3:0 lead over local hero Ouschan. But then the tide seemed to turn and Ouschan got into "winner-mode". She took the next four racks and lead 4:3 in the match. In the 8th rack, Mazhirina forced Ouschan to commit a foul and she leveled the match at 4:4. Ouschan broke the next rack and unfortunately scratched. Mazhirina showed no mercy and finished the rack, taking again a 5:4 lead over Ouschan. The story of the semi-final would not be repeated in the final, that was clear now. Rack number ten saw a break and run from Mazhirina which was a demonstration of her class. Being the underdog in the match with Ouschan, she managed to get back in the game and even went on the hill with 6:4, putting a huge amount of pressure on Ouschan. The Austrian had no got lay after the break and decided to play a safety shot which turned out to be not good enough. Mazhirina could see the ball on and finished the rack, winning the match with 7:4 and the title of the Ballazzo Women's Euro Tour in Austria 2013.

Courtney too good for the field at T9B

Courtney Symons again showed his class at Event 4 of the T9B Amateur Series. Symons, now a 5 times T9B tournament winner, battled through the field yesterday at the Hurricane Room in St Albans to move himself up to 5th in the five event Amateur Series. Symons playing off a handicap of -3 will now be cut and join Luke Rollison on -4 for the remainder for the season. Before this event Courtney was in need of ranking points after he missed event three but now looks to have confirmed his place in the Amateur Series Grand Finals held at St Albans on the 27th July 2013.

Symons event began with a match against Phil Wildman, Courtney was never behind winning 7v3, the match however wasn’t the best with both players making a few uncharacteristic mistakes. Symons followed this result with wins against Dean Reeve (7v1) Lionel Brown (7v4) and Geoff Windeatt (7v5). Courtney's chances of scooping the Jackpot were crushed in the next match by the smallest of margins as new player to T9B Liam Monk defeated Symons 7v6. So this meant Courtney at this event only took one place in the Quarter Finals. Courtney made the most of this one chance though beating Lionel Brown 7v3 to confirm his place in the Semi Finals.

Tom Staveley, fresh from his first T9B event win in High Wycombe last weekend would have been hoping for more of the same, but it wasn't to be, as Staveley lost his first two matches 7v6 against Terry Arnold and Liam Monk. Liam as mentioned earlier is a new player to T9B, he has just returned from a trip to America playing cuesports experiencing some good success and results against some big name players. Liam's day began with a good 7v3 win against Sunny Garib, he followed this with the two hill-hill wins over Staveley and Symons but then ran into two in form players... Last season's Amateur Series Grand Final winner Jonathan Vaughan and Aslam Abubaker who reached the Final of the BWPPA last weekend in Barnsley, Liam was defeated in both matches by scoreline 7v5 and 7v2 respectively.

It was great to have Robin Cripps with us all the way from Penzance, Cornwall but it wasn’t to be Robin's day as he didn't seem to get going, losing matches to Jonathan Vaughan (7v3) and Dean Reeve (7v5).

Roy Kimberley

Roy regains the No. 1 spot in the rankings

Escape Pool Bar in Barnsley was the venue for the 2nd BWPPA event of the season on 18/19 May 2013.

Roy “The Sandman” Kimberley regained the top spot on the tour from Tony Southern, as he wins his third event out of four on the BWPPA tour. Kimberley went into the event knowing that only a higher finish than Southern could get him back to the no 1 spot.

This was the biggest field in a number of years as 17 players entered, with Alexander Prokopiev again making the 7,000 mile trip from Yakutsk, Sakha, Russia, (just north of Japan), and Poland’s Leszek Blumczynski also entering, although he now lives in the UK.

It could have been an even better turn out as several tour regulars such as Matt Duffy, Shaun Madin and Danny Luton were absent.

Niels Feijen (NED)

"The Terminator" leaves no chance to Kazakis

With a very powerful and impressive performance, Niels Feijen (NED) won the final match of the Austrian Open against Alexander Kazakis (GRE) with 9:4.

Just like in the semi-final, Feijen was in absolute top condition. He was focussed, on top of the match at all times. In the early phase of the match, Kazakis seemed to keep the pace with Feijen. But four missed shots, one foul and one scratched cue-ball on the break is simply too many mistakes when you play against Feijen at his A-level.

Bustamante Signed as WPBL Alternate

The World Professional Billiard League has announced the final spot on the league’s roster will go to hall of famer Francisco “Django” Bustamante.

Securing the 60th and final spot in the league as an alternate, Bustamante becomes a member of one of the most star studded teams, the New York Pride. The team includes HOF member Earl “the Pearl” Strickland, Larry “the Truth” Nevel, and fellow Filipinos Warren “the Warrior” Kiamco and Santos “Little Giant” Sambajon.

League president Larry Chiborak was elated saying “We are excited to have him be a part of the league, he knows the game, he is a phenomenal player, and he is a Bonus Ball champion.” Bustamante defeated eight of the world’s best players during the league’s experimental “Super Series” tournament that was played back in May of 2010 at the McPhilips Station Casino in Winnipeg MB. Bustamante had the honor of taking home the championship ring (pictured).

Photography courtesy of Jin Li / TOP147.com LIU SHASHA COMES FROM BEHIND TO DEFEAT CHEN SIMING TO WIN THE WOMEN'S CHINA OPEN 9-BALL TITLE
Coming into Sunday's finals of the 2013 China Open, Liu Shasha knew she was on the cusp of a golden opportunity to vault her way back to the upper echelons of not only the fiercely competitive world of Chinese women's pool, but also the entire world of women's professional pool. Since coming out of nowhere and winning the 2009 Women's World 9-ball Championship held in Shenyang, China, the diminutive and glamorous youngster has maintained her place on the Chinese national team, but she had not won any tournaments. In the lead up to this week's tournament, with 48 top women players from all parts of the globe, Liu had not been playing well in practice and was only hoping to at least reach the quarterfinals. But suddenly she found herself in the finals of one of the biggest tournaments of the year. Indeed on Sunday, in front of packed house at the Shanghai Pudong Yuanshen Stadium arena, Liu seized the moment , coming from behind in crunch time to overtake fellow teammate and young star Chen Siming to win the China Open by a nose, 9 & 8. With the win, Liu can now claim two of the biggest prizes in women's pool. She also joins her close friend and sister Fu Xiaofang who also has won these same two prestigious events. PRO9 has established an outstanding reputation as Europes No.1 source for information on American Pool in the UK and Europe. Upcoming tournament details, prompt match reporting, exclusive images by talented photographers, superb articles by expert pundits, active pool related forums, player profiles and a very sophisticated membership - basically, an incredible information resource for the American style game in Europe.
Since it launched, PRO9 has become compulsory reading, not just for the UKs pool players, but to hundreds and thousands of pool obsessives from around the world every single day.
PRO9s members range from professional pool players, cue-sports enthusiasts, club managers, tournament organisers, pool fans and aficionados, as well as various "movers and shakers" in the cue-sports field, including entrepreneurs in the wholesale and retail sector, as well as magazine editors and television sports promoters.
Growing more and more popular every single year, PRO9 is the best placed vehicle for the promotion of your pool club, billiards brand, associated products, services and opportunities in the truly massive pan-European billiard market.
