Denis Grabe - Estonia Grabe remains unbeaten
The host for the second stage of the Olympic-Online Baltic Pool League 2012 was Entry Poolclub in Kaunas, Lithuania and the game was 10-ball. Both men and women division were won by Team Olympic-Online players Denis Grabe (Estonia) and Marika Poikkijoki (Finland).
Mens division started on Saturday morning with 60 participants. Semi finals were played on Sunday and it was all about two Estonian and two Lithuanian athletes. In the upper side of the chart Grabe did not leave any chances for the current Lithuanian number one Mariuś Śiaudkulis when he cruised to a comfortable 8:0 win. The lower side of the chart featured only twelve years old wonderboy Mark Mägi from Estonia and last stage finalist Henrikas Strolis from Lithuania. The extremely interesting semi final ended with a shock result when Mägi won 8:7 and progressed to the final. Although his game was solid throughout the whole event Mägi was unable to produce another shock as he had to acknowledge the supremacy of Grabe. In the final Grabe did not leave any chances for his young countryman and clinched yet another title with a score of 8:2. „The tournament turned out to be easier than I initially thought. I managed to produce solid game and overcome my opponents quite firmly. I would like to thank the organisers, sponsors and all other related personnel for another great event. Now I must prepare for the WC and after that a well deserved summer holidays,“ commented the happy winner after the final.
As on all the previous stages Grabe won all his matches on this event, so he has been unbeaten an unbelievable five stages in a row!

BWPPA Ranking Event No.3 - The Dynamic Mersey 9 Ball Shootout Rileys American Pool and Snooker - Wavertree Church Road North Wavertree Liverpool L15 6TE www.bwppa.org www.rileys.co.uk

The 2012 BWPPA season exploded into action in April with Tony Southern taking the Main Event title and the No.1 ranking from Roy Kimberley. Apart from a 2-event spell around 2006, when Karl Read held the top spot for 2 events, Kimberley has been the dominant force and undisputed UK No.1, and he will be battling hard to close the 30 point gap on Southern.
The season continues on the 16th/17th April at Rileys Wavertree in Merseyside and you could be part of it!
A number of our players will be battling for the top end of the rankings, with places available in the World Championship in Fujairah (UAE) in September 2012 it promises to be an exciting event.
The Manager of the Club, John Beckinsale, has worked wonders to ensure that the tables are in good condition with the last 3 tables being re-clothed in the week before the event. A new cloth from our sponsors Simonis will mean that we have 3 tables at Wavertree using this excellent blue cloth, with tables 25 and 30 being re-clothed in 2010 and 2011 respectively.
The tour welcomes players of widely ranging ability with two events spanning the weekend. This means that non-elite players can battle amongst themselves in the "Challenge" Cup as well as having the opportunity of matching themselves against the top players on the tour in the main ranking event.

The winner, Nikos Ekonomopoulos from Greece Foto: EPBF/AMM Greece over Poland in the final match
Saturday, 02 June 2012: Nikos Ekonomopoulos (GRE) has won the final of the Dynamic Austria Open and defeated Wojciech Szewczyk (POL) with 9:4.
The tournament was different to other Euro-Tours. That could especially be witnessed in the latter stages of the event. In the quarter-finals, eight different nations were represented. In the semi-finals, three out of four players have never gotten so far. The two finalists, Ekonomopoulos and Szewczyk belonged to them.
The match started out quite evenly. After 7 racks, Ekonomopoulos was leading 4:3. Up until then, none of the two players was able to get an advantage over the other one of more than one rack. But suddenly, Ekonomopoulos seemed to get in better shape. He benefitted from some mistakes from Szewczyk and took a three point lead. The scoreboard showed 6:3 for Ekonomopoulos. The 10th rack was determined by safety play. Szewczyk came out on top of the Greek and put another point in his account. But it was still 6:4 in favour of Ekonomopoulos. The next two racks were taken by Ekonomopoulos who went on the hill and took an 8:4 lead over Szewczyk. The pressure was on. In the 13th rack, Ekonomopoulos executed the break shot and came up dry. However, he was a bit lucky since Szewczyk could not see the 1-ball. Wojciech Szewczyk tried a safety shot but left a tough but makeable 1-ball for Ekonomopoulos. That was all that the Greek player needed. He finished the rack and took the Euro-Tour tournament victory for the first time in his life.

Roman Hybler (CZE) Foto: EPBF/AMM Szewczyk makes a short shrift with Dalmatin
Saturday, 02 June 2012: “Czech attack” Roman Hybler (CZE) ended former World Champion Oliver Ortmann (GER) with 9:4.
The match between the two contestants started out quite even. After five racks, the score was 3:2 for Hybler. In the 6th rack, Oliver Ortmann committed a grave mistake. He ran all balls and left himself an unnecessary tough position for the 9-ball. He aimed at it… and dogged the 9-ball. That somehow gave momentum to Hybler. He performed a power break shot and ran an easy rack, taking a 5:2 lead over Ortmann. Then again, Ortmann made a mistake in the next rack. When exchanging safety shots, Ortmann committed another avoidable foul and Hybler ran the rack. Powered up through his opponent’s mistakes, Hybler again performed a monster break shot and again pocketed 3 balls. But this time Hybler runs out of position for the 8-ball and misses it. That gave Ortmann the chance to step back into the match, making the score 6:3. But in the 10th rack, Ortmann again loses a safety battle and leaves the first open shot to Hybler. The “Czech attack” runs out and takes another point in his account. Ortmann was not only playing far below his possibilities, he was also unlucky at times. In the 11th rack, Ortmann tried to pocket a tough 1-ball and missed. Additionally, he scratched with the cue ball and made Hybler’s life easier. Hybler ran out again. Ortmann took rack 12 but then Hybler ran out after his own break again, winning the match with 9:4.

Darren Appleton (GBR) Foto: EPBF/AMM Single elimination of last 32 players underway in St. Johann
Friday, 01 June 2012: In a very single-sided match, US-Open winner Darren Appleton (GBR) smashed Guilherme Sousa (POR) with 9:0.
The story of the match is quickly told. Sousa made many mistakes and missed some shots while Appleton did not. A huge difference between the two opponents was clearly visible. Sousa seemed to have no chance during the whole match.
Appleton played more focused, stronger and convinced the audience that there would be no other winner but him in that matchup.

Souquet finishes Chinakhov

Ralf Souquet (GER) Foto: EPBF/AMM Loser’s qualification round with tight matches
Friday, 01 June 2012: In a match that was determined by many errors, “The Kaiser” Ralf Souquet (GER) ousted Ruslan Chinakhov (RUS) with 9:5.
The match began with a bad omen for Chinakhov. He miscued on his first shot. He seemed to be not as focussed as he should have been when playing a Hall of Famer. Souquet benefitted from Chinakhov’s mistakes and took a comfortable 3:0 lead. In the 4th rack, Souquet was almost sure to take the point but when he played position for the 9-ball he scratched. Was that the turn of the tide for Chinakhov? AT least the Russian was able to tie the match at 3:3 and then took a time-out. The next two racks were full of mistakes. At 3:3, Chinakhov missed an easy 2-ball and gave Souquet the possibility to take a 4:3 lead. “The Kaiser” did not want to come across unappreciative and also misses an easy ball, the 7-ball in the next rack. That tied the match again at 4:4. From then on, Souquet seemed to gain a bit more momentum than Chinakhov.

He sends Jentsch to the loser’s side

Thursday-Saturday 31 May - 2 June 2012
Mario He (AUT) Foto: EPBF/AMM Not a good round for Great Britain players
Friday, 01 June 2012: Local hero Mario He from Feldkirch, Austria, clearly smashed last Dynamic Euro-Tour winner Dominic Jentsch (GER) with 9:3.
In the end, He must be seen as the deserved winner. However, before the match probably many people would have expected a different outcome. But that’s sports! Jentsch did not find his break shot and that is a lethal disadvantage, especially in a short rack game as 9-ball. On the other side, Mario He was breaking constant and solid and benefitted from his own break shot and his opponent’s mistakes. After seven racks, the score was already 6:1 in favour of He. Jentsch seemed not to be able to believe what happened to him on the TV-table. In the 8th rack, Jentsch broke the balls and again could not make a ball on the break. Both players played some safety shots and He missed a combination that allowed Jentsch back into the table again. Jentsch ran that rack and got his second point in his account. But he could not get momentum at all. He also did his share to prevent that from happening. After Jentsch had won his second rack, He played an extraordinary break shot and ran the rack, getting on the hill with 8:2. That definitely demoralized Jentsch.

Melling wins out over Teutscher
Diamond Nine - Euro-Tour / Dynamic Austrian Open Alpina Wellness & Sporthotel Alpendorf 8 - 5600 Sankt Johann im Pongau Austria www.epbf.com - Twitter www.eurotouronline.eu www.kozoom.com - live streaming and chat www.sporthotel-alpina.com
Thursday-Saturday 31 May - 2 June 2012
Chris Melling (GBR) Foto: EPBF/AMM Up and down with the better end for Melling
Thursday, 31 May 2012: In a match that was rich in variety, Chris Melling (GBR) came out on top of Marco Teutscher (NED) with 9:7.
The tight result does not really mirror the course of events of the match. After 5 racks, Melling was 5:0 up and everyone expected it to be a clear affair for the experienced Brit. But in the 6th rack, Melling pocketed a ball and touched an illegal ball before. He directly announced a foul and Teutscher came into the table and won his first rack. Now if one thought that Melling’s victory parade would continue, you were proven wrong. It was Teutscher instead who now snatched rack after rack and managed to tie the match at 5:5. Suddenly the pressure was on for Melling. And as if history repeats itself, in the 11th rack Teutscher scratched and produced an unnecessary foul. Just like Melling did in the 6th rack. The consequence for Teutscher was that Melling went ahead and won three racks in a row, leading 8:5 all of a sudden. But still the 20-year-old boy from Amsterdam did not give up. He closed the gap to 7:8, when finally Melling managed to run the final rack he needed to win the match 9:7. Teutscher has played extremely well
