| Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Jersey Festival of Pool |
The Jersey Festival of Pool Mayfair Hotel Modern Hotels Group Roseville Street St Helier Jersey JE1 4HE www.jerseysportsfestivals.co.uk
Sunday-Thursday 5-9 February 2012
£18,500 prize fund in Jersey
The 2012 Jersey Festival of Pool is without doubt one of the largest, best attended and longest running English 8 Ball Pool Tournaments in the country, attracting players from far and wide, with a healthy £18,500 prize fund on offer to players in tournament categories such as, Open 1 and Open 2 (£5,000), Open Ladies 1 (£2,000) and Ladies Open 2 (£1,000) as well as the Seniors (£1,000) and the brutally honest but still tantalizing, No Hopers and Cabbages! (£1,000), as well as a slew of low entry fee flyers.
The Jersey Festival has always had the benefit of a special atmosphere as players from all rule codes put aside their differences and get along in perfect harmony for this one very special event of the year, and this should be another successful event with Howard Miller at the helm as Tournament Director.

Pro9 interviewed Darren Appleton before the Mosconi Cup, here's what he had to say. Pro9 Darren, this time last year you announced you were moving to America, so before we talk about pool, can you tell me what it was like when you first arrived, where is your new home and what is it like? How does it compare to where you lived in the UK, and did you manage to settle in quickly?
Darren I settled in very easily to American life, mainly because of my amazing girlfriend Angie and her family making me feel so welcome. Life here is less stressful, more laid back, and it's easy to get around. Most of all, the pool is much better... there's more action and more tournaments. I am currently living in Allentown, Pennsylvania and so far, it's good. I still travel a lot so I pass and stop in England every other month. It works out great at the moment.
Pro9 What's the best thing about your new daily life in the USA? Is there anything you have missed not being in the UK, or have they got everything covered?
Darren The main thing that I miss is my family and UK television. Besides that, everything is great and I feel happy in America. I typically go to the gym, practice, play golf, shop... the usual stuff.
Pro9 It's been a full year now, have you been "living the dream" and has it lived up to all your expectations? Are there any negative aspects to living full-time in the USA, or any surprises you weren't expecting?
Darren There haven't really been any surprises. I have spent a lot of time in the States before. Like I said previously, I travel so much that I am not there as much as I would like. But yes, I am living the dream... the traveling can be tough but besides that, I am very happy on and off the table. I finally got my work sports visa so that's a big weight of my mind.
Pro9 I've noticed you have a new love in your life, both gorgeous and fun, please tell how and where did you meet Angie? Can she play pool? I can see she is really supportive when you are in competitions, does having a supportive partner make a big difference compared to being single? How does she react when you are playing the big money matches?
Darren She's the love of my life and I am so lucky that she's so supportive to me at home and when I'm away. Angie does a lot of my dirty work for me, for example, if I miss a flight or need to book hotels etc., she is great with things like that. She is very calm when she watches so it helps me to be calm as well, but inside, I know she's a bag of nerves. Angie has definitely made a big difference to me on and off the table. Yes, she is a lot of fun but she's also a little shy. She plays a little bit of pool for fun, nothing serious. I first met Angie a few years ago, but at the time she was dating someone. Last year, after the 2010 US Open, we started talking and kept in touch. A few weeks later, we met for dinner and we hit it off instantly. The rest is history, we get on so well. If you're happy off the table, it makes you stronger mentally. I truly believe this, and this year it showed in my results.

EUROPE has successfully defended the PartyPoker.net Mosconi Cup following a convincing 11-7 victory over the USA at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. It was Holland’s Niels Feijen, in his seventh Mosconi Cup, who downed the winning 9 ball which sparked mayhem as his team mates flooded the arena.
It also delivered Feijen the Most Valuable Player award, achieved for two singles and two doubles wins: "It got a bit shaky but they went in,” he said of his 6-3 victory over Rodney Morris to seal the Mosconi Cup.
“I just want to thank the crowd, the British and Europeans and you need them to make it. There were some immense moments and thanks to the coach for doing a super job. He gave us speeches every morning and kept us sharp.”

TEAM EUROPE is now one match away from retaining the PartyPoker.net Mosconi Cup after a one-sided blitz on the American team in front of a standing room only crowd at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas.
After getting the better of things yesterday, the Americans entered the day with high hopes but were battered from start to finish with only Shane Van Boening contributing some red to the score board.
Needing a great start to the day, the USA lost an exciting opener as Appleton and Feijen got the better of Dechaine and Putnam by 6-3. That restored the Europeans three point lead that they held at the start of day one, but the final rack of the match was one of the best safety battles in Mosconi history as all four players took turns to leave the cue ball tucked up.
It was Feijen who broke the deadlock as he made a table length bank on the blue 2 and from there the Europeans ran out to take the match.
“Yesterday we lost the first doubles match 6-5 but Niels and Nick had played well. You need a bit of luck at the right time and we had a couple of rolls there,” said Appleton.
"But we played well at the end and had a lot of fire inside us - Niels is a fantastic player to play with," he added.

TEAM USA recovered from a first day hammering at the PartyPoker.net Mosconi Cup as they put themselves right back into contention, winning three matches to Europe’s two at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Stellar performances from the Americans saw them level the match at 4-4, before the Europeans derailed their momentum to take the final two games and move into the fourth day with a two point lead.
There was plenty of Mosconi Cup drama as debutant Mike Dechaine overcame Ralf Souquet 6-1 and Rodney Morris had an outburst that he will be happy to forget in a hurry. However, coming into the day three points down, Team USA will be happy to have reduced the deficit.
