2011 Amsterdam 8 Ball Open

Not to be confused with the fun (D)open tournament on the preceding day, this two day event is a more serious affair, a nationally recognised 8 ball tournament attracting the best of the Dutch pool players as well as a healthy smattering of international pool aficionados too.
Once again, the key attributes for this venue are the superb equipment plus the hospitality which is second to none - and there's a superb music and dance club above the venue making this a great weekend for both pool and some great nightlife.

Premier League Snooker - Ding Junhui books semi-final spot

Ding Junhui won the latest event in the PartyPoker.com Premier League Snooker season to become the first man through to the play-offs.
Ding beat Neil Robertson 3-2 in his evening semi-final and then claimed a 3-1 final victory over Ronnie O’Sullivan, who has won the Premier League title in six of the last seven years.
The latest event came from the Guildhall in Southampton and O’Sullivan and Judd Trump played out a thrilling opening semi-final in front of a capacity crowd.
Trump, who reached the World Championship final in May, made a 139 in the opening frame of the day before efforts of 53 and 89 from O’Sullivan gave him the lead.
But Trump forced the match into a decider, which O’Sullivan clinched with a break of 70.
Robertson, whose journey from Cambridge to Southampton took five hours and left him without enough time to practice on the table, lost the opening two frames in the second semi-final against Ding.
Robertson fought back by winning the next two but scores of 42 and 58 in the last gave Ding the victory to set up a final with O’Sullivan.

2011 Amsterdam (D)Open - Schhhhhhhhhmokin!
2011 Amsterdam (D)Open Club 8 Admiraal de Ruyterweg 56B 1056 GL Amsterdam Netherlands www.club-8.nl

Click the image to view larger poster (use "back" to return here). Amsterdam (D)open - you won't believe this... But it's true!!
Only Club 8 can offer pool players the most politically incorrect 8-ball tournament the world has ever seen, and get away with it! The Amsterdam (D)open takes full advantage of the relaxed laws regarding marijuana usage in the Netherland's capital city, and actually requires participants to be as heavily "under the influence" as humanly possible.
I've been to this place. It's an amazing city - with fantastic people. It's a brilliant club - with superb equipment. It's a fabulous atmosphere - and the hospitality is second to none... It really is. And did I tell you? I love you man!
Haha... But seriously, this is an incredibly friendly and fun event, just as you'd imagine, especially when you consider the tournament entry fee includes a rather special "party package" - so if you enjoy pool and a "schmoke" make sure you attend this, and be comforted by the fact that there are no tournament reports or photos published - so the privacy of the players is protected from prying eyes. Now in it's fourth year of running - enjoy!

Mark Gray - Great Britain All photography ©Aleksandra Hribar and Tadej Tinev - used by Pro9 with permission. One of the most anticipated tournaments of the year
This is one of those events that the pro players have been looking forward to all year long... There's something special about this event. Nobody's quite sure what it is, but it definitely has a certain "je ne sais quoi" about it. Possibly the superb playing conditions and equipment, perhaps the warm welcome from the tournament host - whatever it is, they must be doing something right!
Obviously the recent US Open Champion and International Challenge of Champions winner, Darren Appleton, will take his place as the centre of attention, but don't forget Hawaii's biggest gun, Rodney Morris, is flying a long, long way to compete in this tournament too, along with Ralf Souquet, Daryl Peach, Raj Hundal, Karl Boyes, Imran Majid, Chris Melling, Niels Feijen, Nick van den Berg, Carlo Dalmatin, Fabio Petroni and over 250 others that will be in attendance.
There's live online video streaming of all the tournament action, as it happens, from start to finish, and Pro9 will publish all the best photos and useful links a pool player could ever dream of, as usual. Stand by for a great weekend of pool! (Edit: I can't find the link for the live streaming anywhere yet either, as soon as we find it we'll publish it here as soon as we can!

Predator Releases Newest Cues in Ikon Series

www.predatorcues.com Predator Cues adds the 2nd Generation to popular cue
JACKSONVILLE, nothing. (Oct. 27, 2011) – Predator Cues has updated the Ikon cue, one of its most popular cue series, with nine new models featuring exotic woods and bold inlays. One new model, the Ikon2 9, represents the creativity of Mike Ipjian of Glenview, IL, winner of the Mykon cue design contest held earlier this year. The team at Predator reviewed scores of designs from fans throughout the United States and Canada before selecting Mike's entry, a stunning blend of ebony wood and micarta with turquoise accents. These new cues strike the perfect balance between design and domination.
In addition to the U.S. and Canada contest, Predator held a similar contest in China through Laili Sports Equipment Co., Ltd., the exclusive Predator dealer for the People's Republic of China. 夏海欢/Haihuan Xia and 王金刚/Jason Wang won the China contest and future Ikon offerings will feature their designs. We appreciate the hard work and creativity of all our contestants and especially Haihuan, Jason and Mike.

Appleton racks up another $25,000 victory at ICOC
THE 2011 INTERNATIONAL CHALLENGE OF CHAMPIONS Mika Immonen (FIN) Darren Appleton (ENG) Yukio Akagariyama (JPN) Huidji See (NED) The Wolf Den Mohegan Sun Casino 1 Mohegan Sun Blvd Uncasville Connecticut CT 06382 USA www.mohegansun.com
25 October 2011
Darren Appleton receives his award from Mike Libera of the Mohegan Sun. APPLETON TAKES THE PRIZE AT WINNER-TAKE-ALL $25,000 EVENT
In 2009 an elated Mika Immonen said, “this is the toughest tournament in the world” and then he proceeded to win it - and then win it again in 2010 too. It was all part of the most thrilling 18 months of his career, as win followed win, including back-to-back US Open victories.
Sound familiar?
Well, it could... Darren Appleton seems to be following in Mika's very successful footsteps and clocking up victories all over the world - particularly resonant are the two back-to-back US Open victories and now this too - this most unpredictable of events, short set race-to-five format - and an electrifying single rack decider if the score is tied after two sets. An exquisitely nerve-wracking format!
But, that's exactly what happened in "Dynamite" Darren's final with the Netherland's Huidji See. Appleton had already swept aside Japan's Yukio Akagariyama in straight sets, and See had managed to defeat defending champion Mika Immonen, albeit through a sudden death final rack after they were tied at one set apiece. You couldn't predict a winner of the final, and true to form they both took a set each. There was even some to-and-fro in the final one-rack shoot-out, and it wasn't until a vital miss on the four by Huidji that gave his opponent the opportunity needed to run out the final balls, and Darren Appleton was crowned the new “Champion of Champions.” The two semifinals and the Championship match were taped by ESPN for telecast (normally December).

2011 European and USA Mosconi Cup Team Rankings - Final
The Mosconi Cup XVIII - Las Vegas Matchroom Sport Las Vegas Nevada USA www.matchroompool.com www.ticketmaster.com - Day 1 - Day 2 - Day 3 - Day 4 - Full 4 Day Pass www.facebook.com/pages/Mosconi-Cup
Monday 24 October 2011
Appleton to the fore as Team Europe named
DARREN APPLETON's second successive US Open title – only the third man in history to successfully defend the biggest title in American pool – saw him move to second spot in the final European rankings and secure a second successive PartyPoker.net Mosconi Cup appearance.
He will be joined by countryman Chris Melling who has enjoyed a fabulous season, with 14 times Mosconi Cup veteran Ralf Souquet (Germany) claiming the third automatic spot. The remaining two "wild card" spots go to the Dutch duo of Nick Van den Berg and Niels Feijen, who have ten Mosconi Cup appearances between them.
Following a 13 event series over 12 months taking in 12 different countries around the world, the top five players in the ranking will now reconvene at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas to defend the title they won so well in London last year.
World 10 Ball champion Huidji See gave Feijen a run for his money but came up just six points short as "The Terminator"s 17th place finish in Chesapeake saw him over the line.
There are two changes from last year's victorious side – Melling comes in for Karl Boyes, while Feijen replaces Mika Immonen. The team will once again be captained by Dutchman Johan Ruijsink.
