Ko Pin-Yi (TPE) in action during the final match with Shane Van Boening (USA) Taiwanese Sensation Ko Pin-Yi Wins
Yet again, Taiwan has proven itself a powerhouse contender in the global billiards scene with rising star Ko Pin-Yi delivering a flawless display of pool against renowned 2007 US Open 9-Ball Champion, Shane Van Boening in their race to 10 finals encounter to claim the prestigious 2010 Guinness World Series of Pool Championship crown here at Mal Taman Anggrek Jakarta Indonesia, 10 – 4. Ko’s textbook form in a stunning 8 – 6 upset of tournament top-seed and World No. 1 Dennis Orcollo in their semi-finals clash actually gave an early indication that Van Boening, who earlier trumped Indonesian Irsal Nasution 8 – 4, was in for a tough match-up.
Taking no chances, the American brought out his A-game early and wasted no time in building a 2 – 0 cushion. Fortunately for Ko he was immediately able to bounce back with a break and run out in the 4th rack and able to capitalize on a foul on the 1ball attempt by Van Boening in the 5th to tie the ball game 2 racks each.
Unfortunately for Van Boening, his young opponent was just starting to heat up. Beginning in the 5th frame Ko turned the contest into a lopsided affair breaking and running out three straight times while at the same time taking advantage of two straight dry-breaks from the American to completely dominate by the 8th rack, 6 – 2.
In the 9th a missed cut on the 1ball corner pocket attempt from Ko came as a welcome reprieve for Van Boening who turned the error into a rack conversion to stop the bleeding 3 – 6. At this point however, things were looking bleak for the South Dakota native as his game, which faithfully brought him up to the pinnacle of the tournament was almost non-existent.
Sensing the championship was within his grasp Ko, never looked back - Turning his opponent into a mere spectator with his immaculate breaking and supreme counter safeties. He allowed Van Boening to score just one more before cruising all the way to the championship 10 – 4 and bag the USD41,000.00 top prize. For his admirable efforts Van Boening earns USD11,000.00.
Ecstatic about the win, Ko managed to comment: ‘I prepared really hard for this tournament. Through all that training, I think that helped me keep my emotions in check whenever I felt pressure in my matches. And that proved to be the difference in my game this year. I’m very excited to tell my friends and my parents back home about my win.”

Announcing The 2011 GB9 Northern Masters
The 2011 GB9 Northern Masters, Pro Cup III, & Challenge Cup III Barceló Daventry Hotel Sedgemoor Way Daventry Northamptonshire NN11 0SG United Kingdom www.gb9balltour.com
Friday/Saturday/Sunday 5-7 August 2011
The playing arena at the Barcelo Daventry Hotel 2011 EVENT 3 - GB9 NORTHERN MASTERS
The GB 9 Ball Tour returns swiftly to the Barceló Hotel in Daventry in August for this season's Northern Masters - just seven weeks since the last action packed weekend took place. This event comes fresh off the back of the 2011 World 9-Ball Championship held in Doha, Qatar, which will go down in many people's books as one of the closest fought and most dramatic tournaments in years, perhaps ever. GB9 was well represented over in the middle-east, with some gutsy and often stunning pool guiding our players to some highly notable finishes.
The most prestigious competition in the 9-ball calendar contained no less than 6 current GB9 players; joining them also was former tour player and now United States resident Darren Appleton, all hoping to bring the world title home as Daryl Peach did four years ago. Expectations were high as Darren and Daryl, along with new British number 1 Imran Majid, and also Karl Boyes, Chris Melling, Mark Gray and Scott Higgins progressed through their respective group stage matches to make the round of 64. It was at this stage that Karl Boyes and Imran Majid bid farewell to the field, with last month's Paul Medati Trophy winner Chris Melling and Scott Higgins knocked out in the very next round. Next on their way home was Darren Appleton in the last 16, whereas Daryl Peach fell just two matches short of his second World Championship final, succumbing in the quarter-finals to eventual runner-up and reigning 8-Ball World Champion, Dennis Orcullo. Despite Mark Gray losing his status as British number 1 after last month's Paul Medati Trophy, he made a remarkable run to the semi-finals in Doha, dispatching the likes of Shane van Boening and his very own compatriot Chris Melling before being eliminated at the penultimate hurdle in a pulsating, ultimately heartbreaking, hill-hill encounter by the eventual winner, Yukio Akagariyama of Japan. With the exception of the typically vast and omnipresent Filipino contingent, no country was better represented in the knockout stages of the tournament than Great Britain - a grand yet thoroughly true testament to the state of 9-ball pool in Great Britain.

Ding Junhui & Liang Wenbo - Team China CHINA ON TOP OF THE WORLD
China have won the 2011 PTT-EGAT Snooker World Cup after they defeated Northern Ireland in a thrilling final.
The Chinese duo of Ding Junhui and Liang Wenbo completed a 4-2 victory over the Irish pair of Mark Allen and Gerard Greene at the Bangkok Convention Centre.
This is the first time China have ever won the title and Ding was delighted with his side’s achievement.
“When the last World Cup was held (in 1996) I was nine and had only just picked up my first cue a few months before,” said Ding.
“We both played really well. We got off to a good start and were 3-0 ahead but in the fourth frame I missed a blue to make it 3-1. I had a good chance to win that frame and when we were 3-0 up I thought we would finish it in the fourth.
“We’re the best two players from China and I’m very proud of China and us to win the World Cup.
“You don’t get many chances to play in this tournament and this is the first time I’ve played in it but I hope I can play in this more times and win more times.
“Liang played very well and better than last season. Last year there was a lot of pressure on him but you need to understand he will come back and play better and better.”

One of the longest running tournaments in pool will return to Asia on September 15 - 18, 2011 with the 11th installment of the Predator International 10-Ball Championship. Predator's premiere event is produced by Dragon Promotions and will take place at Robinson's Galleria Mall in Manila, Philippines. The field will host 96 world class players including defending champion Efren Reyes, a living legend in the game. The Predator International 10-Ball Championship is the very first event The Predator Group ever sponsored starting a decade ago. "After last year's smashing success, we were thrilled that Dragon Promotions was keeping the event in the Philippines. Each year the event grows and more people are attracted to playing, watching, and following the Predator Championship. It's become one of the great events in billiards and a tradition that we intend to nurture for a long time", said John Forrester, Chairman of The Predator Group.

2011 European Mosconi Cup Rankings Latest
The Mosconi Cup XVIII - Las Vegas Matchroom Sport Las Vegas Nevada USA www.matchroompool.com www.matchroomsport.com
14 July 2011
Top five open up gap
FOLLOWING THE RECENT Austrian Open on the Euro Tour, the top five players at the head of the 2011 PartyPoker.net Mosconi Cup European Rankings have now established a 16 point gap between themselves and the chasing pack.
And that means that with just three events to go, it seems an increasing possibility that they will be making up the team to defend the trophy in Las Vegas in December.
To put it in perspective, with 20 points going to the winner of the Euro Tour events and 30 points awarded to the winner of the US Open – the final qualifying event on the roster – it seems that Messrs. Melling, Appleton, Van den Berg, Feijen and Souquet will be fighting it out for the top three spots and automatic entry into the team.

A Bootcamp for pool players keen to improve!
BOOTCAMP: SKILLZ & DRILLZ Poolhall Ames Industrieterrein Kranenmortel Energiestraat 1 5753 RN Deurne Netherlands www.amesdeurne.nl alexlely@hotmail.com
Weds-Sun 17-21 August 2011
Bootcamp!
Johan Ruijsink and Alex Lely have added a massive pool-infusion to the cuesports calendar. From the 17th until the 21st August, Skillz and Drillz-III takes place.
Johan and Alex use their 30 years of playing and coaching experience at the highest level to give the participants a tidal wave of information: technique, shot-selection, kick-shots, safeties, the mental game and more than a sniff of straightpool.
‘But I never play straightpool!’...
...We are from a small country with a very modest group of players to work with. What we do have is the analytical mindset and the will and conviction to found the learning process on knowledge and understanding. Straightpool gives the foundation of a nuclear bunker: technically and mentally. If you witnessed Stephan Cohen and Nick van den Berg win their European gold in 10 and 9-ball respectively, the straightpool in their game clearly shone through.

Irelands American Pool League Pro Season
Ireland's American Pool League Pro Season Hustlers American Pool Hall Europa Tool House Springbank Industrial Estate Belfast BT17 0QL www.hustlerspoolhallbelfast.com
27 August 2011
Ireland's American Pool League Pro Season
Hustlers Pool Hall, Belfast is extremely proud to announce Ireland’s new APL Pro Ranking Season. “The American Pool League is a yet to be launched Pool League system and Hustlers Pool Hall Belfast was the first to sign up on a R&D basis” explains HPHB Tournament & Events organiser, Mr. Sean Judge. “We were so overwhelmed by the enthusiasm pouring out of this organisation that we thought to develop the relationship“, he added.
Mr. Judge also said, “The new Irish Professional Season will be strictly limited to 16 players as we want quality not quantity. It consists of 5 Pro Ranking events (Double Elimination with guaranteed tournament pay outs) which will then seed players for the Grand Final! We have also adopted a ‘Grand Slam’ initiative for any player that achieves 5 tournament wins in one season. All of our events will be supported with Trophies, guaranteed prize money and we are extremely pleased to announce official sponsors to our season.”
As a display of our intentions we are privileged and humbled to announce that McDermott Cue are to be the official cue sponsor of our tour. We have previously met Director of Cue King Promotions, Jason Lawrence who has shown huge interest in Irelands American Pool scene. So it has been a natural and mutual development process for us.
“This is a very exciting opportunity for McDermott Cue. Increasing the participation of billiards and driving the profitability of pool room operators is critical for the success of our industry,” said McDermott Cue Promotional Director Jayme Cernicka. “Providing players with superior products as the G-Core and I Shafts, with a perfect blend of performance, affordability and the newest technology available, are core values that McDermott Cue represents and is just one of the key benefits of this program.”

Gerard Greene - Northern Ireland CARTER HOPING TO LAND KNOCKOUT BLOW
Ali Carter is hoping to land the knockout blow on his rivals at the PTT-EGAT Snooker World Cup.
Carter and team-mate Mark Selby became the second team to qualify for the quarter-finals and Carter has enjoyed his downtime with a night out watching Thai boxing.
He went to the legendary Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok and was among a crowd of 5,000 packed into the arena for a chaotic evening of action.
"It was really good fun," said Carter. "I saw some really good knockouts and it was a real eye-opener but it was good to get to see into that culture.
"Mark and I are here to win it and are trying our hardest to do so but it's important to have your downtime and relax a bit."
Carter, who lost both of his singles matches yesterday against Belgium , won both of them today as England defeated India 4-1 to join Northern Ireland in the last eight.
The two qualifiers will now meet on Friday to see who tops the group and avoid the winners of Group D, potentially the Scottish pairing of John Higgins and Stephen Maguire.
"At the start of the tournament our aim was to get out of the group and it looked tough on paper but we've done it quite easily," added Selby.
"It wasn't pretty to watch but it's the result that counts. We wanted at least 4-1 and got 4-1.
"I would be more than happy if we don't play to a great standard if we win the tournament. It's not about playing pretty snooker and in a one-frame tournament you have to be solid throughout."
