Team Europe Captain - Johan Ruijsink / Team USA Captain - Nick Varner Ruijsink and Varner Go Head to Head
MATCHROOM SPORT announce that Nick Varner and Johan Ruijsink will lead America and Europe respectively into battle at the 2010 PartyCasino.com Mosconi Cup.
Both captains have plenty of experience of the tournament with Varner leading his men to an outstanding victory in Las Vegas last December and Ruijsink having skippered Europe to their first Mosconi victory in five years in the same city in 2007.
The 17th running of the PartyCasino.com Mosconi Cup takes place from Thursday 9th to Sunday 12th December at East London’s famous York Hall, following an eight year absence.
The tournament features two five man teams representing Europe and the USA competing over the four days in a series of singles and doubles matches.
Varner, 62, has successfully captained America to Mosconi Cup victory, initially as a player and then as non-playing skipper in 2003, when he inspired a famous last day comeback at the MGM Grand to secure victory.

Serge Das has made this event his own over the last couple of years, taking the top prize by cutting a swathe through the hordes of local players, but this year, despite getting close, the elusive hat trick was denied him by talented Turkish player Emrah Guvenc in a thrilling 7-5 final match victory.
Guvenc isn't exactly an unknown quantity, he regularly plays in Germany and was actually runner up in both the 8-Ball and 9-Ball finals at this very event last year - it only seems fitting that he should go one better this time.
Despite a plethora of international pool celebrities attending this event, two local players, Berk Mehmetcik and Ali Karanfiloglu, shone brightly enough to reach the Quarter-Finals - the first time this has happened in this event's history, and not only pays testament to the progress being made by the local talent, but also bodes very well for the future of the game in Cyprus.

Rankings updated after China Open
Despite taking a bit of a battering from the awesome home-grown talent on display at the China Open, Europe is still well represented at the top of the list as Finland's Mika Immonen sits atop the Men's WPA World Pool Rankings published today. With a total of 7 Europeans in the top sixteen, including Germany's Ralf Souquet in 4th place, immediately followed by Brits, Karl Boyes and Darren Appleton in 5th and 6th respectively, it's still the Philippines that remain the nation to be feared, and with such a good result at the China Open, Lee Van Corteza and Antonio Lining are the closest threats to Mika's pole position.
Britain is very well represented in the WPA Women's Rankings with Allison Fisher predictably number one ranked lady after a fantastic final in China, and Kelly Fisher at her side in the number two spot.

Imran Majid lifted his second trophy in two Tour Stops at the GB9 Southern Masters, edging out Scotland's young hot shot, Jayson Shaw, by eleven racks to nine in the final at the Barcelo Daventry Hotel, Northamptonshire. The match looked for all the world to be going to a hill-hill deciding rack until Shaw left too much of a pocket available for 'The Maharaja' to make a long 7 ball, the remaining two balls and the lion's share of the £6000 prize fund. “Jayson is a great cueist so I couldn't try and out-pot him because he probably would have won, I had to grind a few racks out. This win really shows I'm back!” Majid's victory in Daventry gave him his first British Main Event title since July 2008, the last title in his famous run of four consecutive tournament wins.
Despite a host of notable names being absent from the list owing to the China Open clashing with the Tour Stop, Majid overcame stern opposition throughout the day. Adam Benn Smith came closest, managing to take seven racks in their race-to-9 quarter-final clash, a careless scratch on a 7 Ball at the midway stage perhaps being the turning point for the Sunderland based star. Pro Cup finalist, Raj Hundal could only manage three racks in his semi-final encounter with his former sparring partner Majid. 9-6 and 9-3 wins over Matthew Ford and Andy Appleton in the earlier rounds put Majid on the path to success.

| The Glass City Open is Back - But Now It's a Whole New Ball Game! |
The Glass City Open 8 Ball Team Championship Ramada Hotel and Conference Center Toledo Ohio USA www.glasscityopen.com
26-28 November 2010 *New date: 25-27 February 2011
The Glass City Open 8 Ball Team Championship
TOLEDO, OH - September 21, 2010 - The Glass City Open, Toledo's namesake pool championship is back, but it's different. The event is now a 5-player Open Team 8-Ball Triple Elimination Tournament, limited to 64 Men's teams and 24 Ladies teams. They will compete for $40,000 in prize money at the Ramada Hotel and Conference Center Thanksgiving weekend, November 26-28, 2010.
"Anyone can play; pros, amateurs, shortstops...they're all welcome," says Tom Gearhart, Promoter and Tournament Director, who, along with his Glass City Open partner Tom Elder, resurrected the event.
Believing so much in its success, the two Toms and their sponsors are guaranteeing $15,000 added to the tournament.
"We will guarantee $12,000 added to the men's event with $10,000 guaranteed for first place and we will also guarantee $3,000 added to the ladies event with $2,500 guaranteed for first place," Gearhart said. "Plus, we will pay down approximately 25% of the field in both divisions."
"Our philosophy is simple," comments Gearhart, "make it fun, make it affordable, add in some guaranteed money, give each team three losses before they're out, have a great venue, bring in a couple of pros for exhibitions and entertainment, let the tournament players play on the best bar tables in the world, Diamond Smart Tables, and put in an action room for some great matchups and you have the makings for a fun-filled weekend playing pool! Now, get your best team together and let's get it on!"

The 2010 China 9 Ball Open
One of the most cheao nike shoes events of the year has been won by the home nation at the Pudong Yuanshen Stadium in Shangai, China. The China 9 Ball Open is a perennial favorite of the players because of the superb playing conditions, generous prize fund and a very well organized and constructed event.
Qualifying rounds were completed and the final field of 64 players in the men's division started off with the now familiar double elimination format utilizing 8 groups of 8 players, to whittle the field down to the final 32, who then played single elimination to determine the eventual winner. The same format was used for the ladies event, albeit with smaller numbers.
After a week full of action, Shane Van Boening was the best placed westerner, but even his efforts ended in the quarter-finals as the Chinese and Filipino's ruled the end game in the men's event. Ultimately, Chinese Taipei's Zhang Yulong beat Antonio Lining from the Philippines in a nail-bitngly close 11-9 final.
The ladies title also went East as Chen Siming bested the much fancied Allison Fisher in the 9-7 final. Ireland's Karen Corr also placed in the semi-finals, taking her share of the $250,000+ prize fund on offer in China this week.

THE women’s snooker season kicks off next weekend with the traditional double-header at the North East Derbyshire Snooker Centre, Clay Cross.
On Saturday, it’s the £1,400 Wytech Masters. And on Sunday it’s the Paul Wood UK Championship, the first of six ranking events on the 2010/11 World Ladies Billiards & Snooker Association circuit.
Reanne Evans, the six-time women’s world champion, WILL play in both events.
As a professional, Evans, the only woman on World Snooker’s Main Tour, will concede an 18-point start in each frame of the Masters.
The 24-year-old, who is on a 61-match unbeaten run on the WLBSA circuit, won both the Masters and UK titles last year. She will play in as many of this season’s events as she can.
Mark Jones and Paul Stanynought, joint owners of Midlands-based IT company Wytech, are sponsoring the Masters for the fourth year running.
Mr Jones said: “Paul and I, along with our secondary sponsors Capital City Solutions and the Q Room in Derby , are proud to be sponsoring the Wytech Masters.
“This is the fourth consecutive year of our involvement and we are proud of the event that we put on each year.
“I hope the ladies have a great time in the opening event of the season and put on some great personal performances. The day is about fun, meeting and making friends, oh, and of course snooker.”

18-year old German young-gun Dominic Jentsch has won the Swiss 10-Ball open which took place in Gstaad which is actually known for his tennis tournaments. Now it was Pool-Time for three days and lots of the best European players came to the wonderful Swiss city to fight for the prize money of 27.000,00 Euros.
At the end it was German straight pool champ Jentsch who took his chance and benefitted from the elimination of both top-favorites Ralf Souquet (Germany) and Niels Feijen (Netherlands) earlier in the tournament.
In the final which was dominated by Jentsch the last Swiss hope Ronald Regli who earlier sent Feijen back home had no real chance. 9:3 was the final result.
Prior to the final, around 150 spectators saw two very close semifinals. Marco Tschudi (Switzerland) was ahead 7:3 over his fellow countryman Regli who had a great comeback and finally won 9:7. The other semi with Jentsch and World Team Champ Imran Majid (United Kingdom) was decided at hill-hill. Majid was on his way to the final as he made a horrible mistake which costs him his place in the endgame.
