Big Names Tumble on Day of Shocks
PLAY HAS concluded on the first day of the 2010 PartyPoker.net World Pool Masters as 16 players have made their way through to Friday’s round of 32 and a further 16 have been eliminated from the completion.
Separated into eight groups of eight players competing in double elimination competition, four groups competed today and top of the seeding for the straight knock out stages of the event.
There were plenty of big name casualties who fell by the wayside on a day when the strength in depth of field shone through. Those who fell at the first hurdle included Efren Reyes, Francisco Bustamante, Shane Van Boening, Corey Deuel, Oscar Dominguez and Earl Strickland.

BUSTAMANTE CAPTURES FIRST WPBL BONUS BALL EVENT
The World Professional Billiard League held it's first ever event this weekend. It was a huge success for all involved. It was held in Canada at the beautiful, McPhillip Station Casino in Winnipeg. Statistically, the two best players were found battling it out in the finals. That is what tournament director Barry Bremner and owner, Larry Chiborak predicted prior to the inaugrual event, "The Super Series of Billiards".
"The game of Bonus Ball uses a scoreboard and time clock, and they operated flawlessly", stated Chiborak. "The players made a few mental mistakes due to the challenge of having to think fast on their feet, but at the end of the event, all eight players were showing why they are called professionals!" Bremner said..."Corey Deuel, who seemed at odds with the new game, came storming back on the final day, playing flawless! I was very impressed with the size of his heart. Most players would have packed it in the final day. That was not the case with Deuel. I expect Corey to be vastly improved in the next event"

A Host of Top Games on Days 1 & 2
WITH THE 2010 PartyPoker.net World Pool Masters set to get underway at the Riviera Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas next Wednesday 12th May, Matchroom Sport can announce the first round matches and groups.
The 64 player field is drawn into eight groups of eight players who compete in race to nine, double elimination play to separate the field down to 32.
Defending champion Darren Appleton has a potential banana skin to negotiate as he faces off against powerful young Korean girl Yu Ram Cha in his first match. At the same venue last year, Yu Ram sent Shane Van Boening packing from the Predator Ten Ball and she will be looking to dent Appleton’s hopes.

Players from the Netherlands, Finland and Germany featured in the closing stages of Aruba's premier edition of The Ultimate Ten Ball Championships with it's "$15,000 Added" prize fund, but it was the USA's Shane Van Boening who took the lion's share of the prize money (and the gold medal) with a strong finish over Dutchman Niels Feijen in the final, and again against the winner of the one-loss side of the draw with a 12-10 victory over Mexico's Ignacio Chavez.
Noted Danish player Katrine Jensen was top lady finisher, finally bowing out to Germany's Ralf Souquet in the one-loss side of the draw, and the whole event was video recorded and live streamed worldwide on the internet.
