Ashik Nathwani is successful and gets his choice of Euro Tour Events to attend

Total9Ball were back at High Wycombe Hurricane Room on Sunday 8th March 2015 for event 2 of the Euro Tour Qualifier Series sponsored by Dynamic Billard. 29 players in total supported this event with the league stage to knock-out format being used. The field contained many talented players with last event's Winner and Runner Up, Phil Wildman and Dale Cadet both in action. Add in Ashik Nathwani, Courtney Symons, Del Sim, Mark Foster, Mark Parker, Tom Staveley and many other talents. It was clear from the start this was going to be an open high class event. We were also pleased to welcome four new players to the T9B scene and they provided very positive feedback about the event which was brilliant to hear.

T9B founder Phil Wildman called all players to the tournament desk at 10.30am for a brief meeting in regards to the event rules and prize money breakdown with matches kicking off shortly afterwards. Each player was assigned the task of competing in three league stage matches with each hoping to score enough points to get themselves into the top 16 on the final league table.

Thanks to Dynamic Billard for sponsoring this event.

The top eight players to be seeded players for the knock-out stages. There was a tight bunch finish in the lower qualifying positions after the completion of the three matches but each player who secured two out of three victories made it through the league of death. Paul Taylor and Tom Staveley were the outstanding players who recorded three out of three wins (results below)

Match Paul Taylor Tom Staveley

1 7-5 vs Mark Parker 7-2 vs Courtney Symons
2 7-4 vs Jamie Bryan 7-5 vs David Worrell
3 7-4 vs Rich Fullwell 7-4 vs Mark Foster

The other 6 players who made it through as seeded players were in alphabetical order, Aslam Abubaker, Dale Cadet, David Worrell, Lazlow Zsom, Matt Hawthorne and Michael Blatchley. The pick of the results from the seeded players were Lazlow Zsom 7v6 Mark Foster, Aslam Abubaker 7v6 Mark Williams (Aslam was 5v1 behind) and Dale Cadet defeated Ashik Nathwani 7v3 but did Dale awake the beast?

Players ranked 9th to 16th in the league table would be paired up with a seeded player in the last 16. Jamie Bryan seems to be really improving with each event and his day began with a good 7v4 win against Phil Wildman, Jamie comment after the match 'Wildman always gets my A game'. Jamie followed this result with another good win against Jaspal Bamotra 7v5 to book his space in the last 16. Steve Chick hammered Mark Parker 7v0 while Mark Hughes produced a brilliant 7v1 result against Wayne Rooke.

During the league stage the break dish event took place. £160 in tickets were sold taking the total accumulated pot to £260 so thanks to the players who got involved. T9B broke the pot down to £20 per ball with a £60 bonus for the 10ball clearance. Player purchase raffle tickets during the early part of the main event. Players can buy as many tickets as they like to enhance there chances of being one of the lucky players drawn. Players have to pot a ball off the break. After each successful shot the player is offered a cash prize to stop and collect, if the player decides to continue and misses then all accrued money is lost. First up was Aslam Abubaker, unfortunately Aslam produced a dry break. Next up was Mark Williams unfortunately Mark also produced a dry break, therefore a 3rd player was drawn at a reduced pot of £100 broken down to £5 per ball with a £50 bonus for the clearance. The final lucky player of this exciting side event was Tom Staveley, unfortunately Tom couldn't keep the white ball on the table off the break. The pot now will roll over to event 3. If there isn’t a winner at that event then the collected money will be as announced at Euro Tour Qualifier Event 1 be split between the Amateur Series Grand Final pot and the Champion Of Champions event.

So back to the action and there were just 16 top amateur players remaining in the event. The players congregated around the table as the draw was made and it looked like this:-

Seeds on the left

David Worrow 7v5 Alan Bell
Laszlow Zsom 4v7 Steve Chick
Paul Taylor 7v5 Bob Harris
Matt Hawthorne 5v7 Jamie Bryan
Michael Blatchley 0v7 Del Sim
Aslam Abubaker 7v6 Phil Wildman
Tom Staveley 7v6 Mark Hughes
Ashik Nathwani 7v5 Dale Cadet

So the eight players remaining were one step closer to the Euro Tour spot and also were now guaranteed a minimum of £45 in prize money.

Ashik built up a brilliant lead against Tom Staveley but Tom has never given up without a fight and amazingly tied the match at hill-hill. With Tom trialling by 5 racks at one point during this match a betting man would make him a massive favourite going into the final rack as all the momentum was in his favour. Ashik however wasn’t going to be eliminated from the event as he produced the goods to advance to the Semi Final 7v6. Del Sim appeared to be getting into full swing as he swapped beer for water and used his powerful break to his advantage whilst remaining very dangerous in the balls, Aslam pushed Del close but in the end Del would make the final four of the event by 7 racks to 5. Paul Taylor looked full of confidence as he produced an impressive 7v3 victory against Jamie Bryan while Steve Chick was back in the Semi Finals again at a T9B event, Steve was a 7v4 winner against new player and im sure future event winner David Worrow. Chick made the Semi Finals of Event one of this series but could he go all the way today?

So just four players remaining and I knew we were in for a treat as either one of the four could easily win this event and from early performances it was clear they were all in top form. Ashik Nathwani and Steve Chick both took good leads in there matches and it looked like these two would compete in the Finals however was there to be a twist? Del and Paul both began to eat into there deficits. Both Semi Finals ended at a similar time with the same scores reported... it was 7v5 wins for... Ashik Nathwani and Steve Chick.

The Final began in good time with both finalists coming through the league stage as unseeded players. They were both looking hungry for success. The prize on offer was massive with the Winner gaining a Euro Tour Space in an event of there choice (Sponsored by Dynamic Billard). £250 towards flight and accommodation, £150 in prize money, a glass trophy and an invite into Total9balls Champions Of Champions event at the end of the Season. Steve Chick had the better of the early exchanges and took a commanding 5v1 lead but both players were making mistakes. Ashik began to battle and play a lot more percentage pool by taking fewer risks. Steve unfortunately watched on as Ashik won the next six racks to take the match and the Championship.

A very good comeback from Ashik Nathwani and a brilliant event overall. Ashik played some very good 9ball throughout the day beating some of the highest rated players in the field.

Thanks to our Sponsors Dynamic Billard and Hurricane Room, thanks to Kim Rowlett for running the desk, thanks to Mark Parker for taking the action photos and also to all the players who supported this event.

The next two T9B events are:-

Saturday 21st March – Undisputed Series Event 1 (Scratch no handicaps) straight knock-out, winner breaks, race to 15 racks – High Wycombe Hurricane Room

Saturday 28th March – T9B Deurne City Qualifier. We are hoping to send 5/6 players to the Deurne City Classic event held in Holland in May.

To enter both or either of the above events please text Mark Parker 07764485711 or Phil Wildman on 07795535051. Thanks in advance for your support.
