Ashik Nathwani Secures Maiden Total9ball Win in Amateur Series
Total9ball took centre stage once again yesterday at The St Albans Hurricane Room for the 8th event of their 10 event amateur series. A total of 27 players made the trip to St Albans Hertfordshire as the race for the end of season number one spot in the rankings heats up.
Matches kicked off at around 10.30am on Saturday 31st August 2014. The field assembled again was very strong and it would be hard for a betting man to pick a winner with so many closely matched players and a handicap head-start for the players rated a lesser standard. Kris Kovacs reported back the day’s first score line, a 7v3 victory for Kris against the only entrant from Wales Jon Davies. Tom Staveley started the event well with a convincing 7v2 result over Ricky Collett. Gareth Espirit bossed his match with Ashik Nathwani winning 7v5 leaving Ashik with just his second life remaining. Phil Wildman started slowly against improving Darian George, Phil trailed 6v1 but managed to turn this match around winning 7v6. Del Sim looked unbeatable and fully in stride right from the off as he inflicted a 7v3 score line against Ramesh Gokhul. Paul Choonge held his nerve to advance 7v6 against Andrew Carter while on the table next door Ken Ng was on fire… a 7v1 win against Jason Rosser proved that. Tony Burton blew away Nick Hampton in impressive fashion 7v1. On to other side of the draws 1st round results now as Tony Burton made it two wins from two matches 7v4 against Ian Gooderham . Mark Parker received a bye in his first match so he spent his morning catching some action photos of the players, the lack of table time didn’t seem to put Mark off however as he achieved a good 7v2 result against Tom Staveley. Gary Bullocke was in no mood for even losing a rack against Paul Choonge as he cruised through 7v0. Zoltan Kojsza got the better of Steve Davison 7v4 and Phil Wildman defeated Ramesh Gokhul 7v3 in a very high standard match ending Ramesh’s return event as he was been away in the States for the past few months.
Thanks to Dynamic Billard for sponsoring this event.

Sales were flying through for the "Break Dish" and the lucky player would be drawn after Phil Wildman announced it would be £50 per ball and a £60 bonus for a clearance, this really is becoming some side event. The lucky player would be…. Zoltan Kojsza, this would be Zoltan's second break dish attempt since T9B started the roll-up (lucky guy) Zoltan’s luck though would be short lived as he aimed to clear the 10balls for a total of £560. Zoltan managed to keep the white on the table from the break and made one ball. £50 was announced, Zoltan had to call it a day there as he was hooked on the next ball. After the £50 was collected, Zoltan was asked to carry on by the 35 or so players and spectators. He did and he managed to clear the table but under a lot less pressure. Video available soon. This leaves the T9B break dish pot in an extremely healthy position. The next Amateur Only event will see a guaranteed pot of £510 before sales…. That’s £45 per ball and a £60 bonus for the clearance. Wow please let it be me.
Back to the main event now and results were beginning to fly in. Ashik Nathwani put his earlier defeat behind him as he took out Jason ‘breakdish’ Rosser 7v4, Ricky Collett battled hard to eliminate Kris Kovacs 7v6. Mark Parker and Phil Wildman managed to tag team Luke Rollison out of the event in this round as Phil Wildman just about held his nerve in a tense hill-hill decider from 6v3 down while Parker kept control of his match with Luke leading from start to finish with the match ending 7v4. Gary Bullocke gave Zoltan Kojeza a good hiding 7v0 in this round, this result meant Gary had dropped just one rack across his first three matches. Sunny Garib was quietly going about his business as he kept both of his lives intact through round two 7v5 and 7v4 against Ken Ng and David Hood. Tony Burton also recorded two wins during this round as he showed great mental strength to send Gareth Espirit home early 7v3 and soon Paul Chonge would follow 7v4.
The next round we will just report the results as it shows who was still in the event twice and where players are at on the draw sheets.
T9B Double Chance Amateur/Rookie Series 2014 | Left Side | Right Side | Sunny Garib 7v3 Gary Bullocke
Tom Staveley 7v5 Zoltan Kojsza
Phil Wildman 7v6 Del Sim
Mark Parker 7v2 Tony Burton
| Ashik Nathwani 7v1 Gary Bullocke
Mark Parker 7v6 Tony Burton
Sunny Garib 7v3 Nick Hampton
Phil Wildman 7v4 A Khan

So at the Quarter Final stage Mark Parker, Phil Wildman and Sunny Garib were still on for the £650 jackpot, however it would be this round that would destroy all of their jackpot hopes. Sunny Garib ran into an in-form Tom Staveley who got the better of him 7v4. Sunny then had a point to prove as he inflicted a 7v4 result on Phil Wildman. Mark Parker was beaten by a now buzzing Ashik Nathwani 7v4 but then Mark recovered from this to beat Phil Wildman 7v5.
We are now at the Semi Final stage and again as many event prior it had become just a normal event as there was four different Semi Finalists as nobody had kept their two lives. Ashik powered home 7v2 against a tired looking Sunny Garib, while Tom Staveley reversed the early result with Mark Parker this time winning 7v4.
Ashik Nathwani would contest the Final against Tom Staveley. Both players seemed to be in top gear in previous rounds so we were expecting a brilliant final. Tom began this match on a -1 rack handicap. The match went rack for rack until 3v3, Tom then took the lead for the first time 4v3 this seemed to spark Ashik into win mode, Ashik competing in his first T9B final won the next 4 racks to run out a 7v4 winner.
Well what can I say… another enjoyable, well run Total9ball event completed. That's now over 65 events we have run successfully and they seem to be getting better and better.
The usual thanks to the Hurricane Room club for sponsoring us the facilities for the whole day. To Kim and Nicole for running the tournament desk, to Mark Parker for taking the action shots and to all the players who supported us yet again.
The next event will be Golden Sundays event two held at the Hurricane Room Colindale next Sunday 7th September.
In two weeks’ time we have the first Total9ball Open Weekender. The event will be held at St Albans Hurricane Room on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st September. This event will have something for everyone. There is a main event (all players in together), a sharks and separate minnows comp, a blind scotch doubles event (partners redrawn after each round), a one rack shoot-out and a break dish. Id says the most pool you will ever play over two days and a great chance to meet other players and socialise
Please message myself on 0779-5535051 or Mark on 07764-485711 to enter. Please do this asap to save disappointment as only limited spaces remaining.
Thanks to Dynamic Billard for sponsoring this event.
