Everyone seemed to really enjoy the 10 ball last season. Much better than 9 ball but that's just my opinion.

One things is for sure... this is an amazing venue and it's great to have the Northern Masters back in the North :)

If you're not playing this event should need to have a word with yourself lol

venue looks fantastic but without sounding all doom an gloom it must surely after all the hard work you guys put in to gb9 that you only had 80 entrants be a tad disappointing,i wd love to be playing in such surroundings and on tables like this,my reason for not playing is simple finances are not there so basically what im asking is this the reason for a relatively low turnout

Some people still question the value. I do myself. £120 entry fee on it's own isn't an issue at end of the day to enter a PTC in snooker is upwards of £100.

Some will have issue basically paying the pros by entering and dont feel they should for £120. Then some will not be able to afford the extra costs or the time away from family. Who can blame them for all of that? £300 approx for a weekend of pool? How many can realistically afford that in the current climate?

yeah, the right tour maybe at the wrong point in time, it would have had 150+ players 10 years ago, but most people are skint these days, I loved playing on it but cant afford too now as well as the BWPPA tour, but hope things pick up as would love to see it flourish.

the question is what can be done to solve theproblem there needs to be a solution that suits the majority wd say everyone but that cant happen but summat needs to happen as the venues r perfect the comittee r perfect sowhat can happen to make it better ie more entries and this not a criticism of the organisers at all as they work so friggin hard but im guessing everyone wants more entries

Just my thoughts

Scrap the Challenge
Leave the accommodation optional
Drop the entry fee slightly
Keep the format

Plate competition for those who want to pay extra for one, taking no money out of the main prize fund.

£300 for entry fee and accommodation plus food, drink and fuel to stay in the venue is only affordable by a small percentage.
I could just about afford all this as long as I had a room share just for the experience of it all in a hotel venue.

I played GB9 back in 2008 when it was Riley's venues. Come on leaps and bounds since then and just wish I could be part of it all again!

Maybe later this year or next............

Problems tho dazza

Scrap the challenge - no value for lesser players and their weekend could be over on Friday night

Hotel optional - if it was optional nobody would stay in the hotel and therefore we would have to pay for the hire of the room I'm sure, maybe waver if you live under x miles away?

Dropping the entry depletes prize money of course and then we cut out any European players coming over...

It's a tough balance between value for the lesser players and making it worthwhile to win. All will be better next year, as all gb9 members will know. I just hope people continue to support the tour this year so that it can get back on its feet for next year.

All valid points Mark, I'm glad there is something in the pipeline for next year and hope they get the numbers back up to what they should be.

Like I said I may be back this year, failing that next year sounds promising.....

I can see that its tough to accommodate most people, lets hope these changes for next year turn things around for the better..

First of all i was gutted to have to miss this weekend and i spent most of the weekend checking scores and watching the stream.

I think what would be great if this could be implimented, 9ball in the UK need a structure in my opinion. What i think would work is 2 events per weekend. a Pro event (32 players) and a Challenge event (remaining players) one reanking list with the pros taking the top 32 spaces on the ranking. In previous seasons some amateur players didnt want to turn pro so what i suggest is the pro and challenge players pay the same entry but the prize money is cut say 70% 30% so there are 3 reasons player would want to be in the elite... 1 to play the pro players as that opportunity wouldnt happen ever often on this format. 2) to play for the extra money 3) to gain a top 32 ranking. I think this system would also attract back some o0f the lesser players who have dropped off as having a challenge event means there is a good chance of winning a few matches and also not having to beat a top pro to make a small amount of prize. Then event 5 could be like Football Association Cup all in together redraw for each round no seeding and very exciting.

Just my idea,

Very good ideas Phil, I personally did prefer the original format of the Pro Cup, Challenge and Main Event however this was changed by GB9 for reasons i'm sure they thought was for the better.

I've always been one for accepting change as long as it's good for UK pool, however the numbers seem to be getting less and less for each tournament run (even the 1 dayer's) and can only think the financial economy is to blame for this and no amount of change within the UK pool scene will change that!

Let's all hope things pick up as a whole and get back to how it used to be!

IMO the current format isnt the problem, I actually like the format. We would be in this situation even if the format was the same because of the reduced numbers. The reason for the lack of numbers is simply people cant afford to play! I think if the value returns as it should next year the numbers will increase slightly, but it is going to take a considerable time to get back to where we used to be numbers wise...

Its a long story that Riggers explained in detail at event 1 this year, but the short story is the tables werent paid of as planned, and were now touring so that's two "Extra" costs this year. On top of not paying the tables, it means that we have to save to pay them off this year so theyll be paid off... Increase the years prize fund by 9k+ i think he said... I hope it all works out and the money adds up well enough to get a few more back in...

Oh right i see. That explains a lot to those who were not at event 1 this year to find this out
Like you said i hope it all works out for the better which i sure it will do.

Fingers crossed!

Mark has summed things up very nicely, thanks Mark. We've actually been paying around £13k per season towards tables so next year we are in a very good position if people sign up. The committee will consult members regarding preferred format for next season. Thats all I have to say on the subject and thanks everyone for the continued support.
