Can anyone tell me if the tanned super soft tips play differently to the black super soft tips?

I've tried the black medium which I hated because it felt horribly spongey, but I've also tried the tan hard, which is really REALLY hard, and in my opinion the best tip out there.

Recently i Installed medium clear on my cue and what I noticed that this tip is as hard as my white diamond tip After few shots tip become so smooth and get problems with chalking up. I used my "UFO shaper" to make it more rough but using this all the time I'll need to change my tip in next few moths. Do you know any alternatives to kamui gator grip?

Andy is spot on here, in that Kamui mediums do tend to shine up in use purely because they are quite a bit harder (85 on durometer tests) to comparative brand medium tips. I also shoot with this tip, and like the feel. IMO super soft tips do give a great feel, but this is the case in point...it's all feel. The cue ball on contact leaves the tip at 0.001 sec - 0.002sec with a phenolic tip (mega hard) leaving the cue at 0.0005sec. To conclude to the OP's question. Look at the durometer tests for both Kamui soft tips there are only 2 points between them. (see link) Durometer testsI would doubt very much if you would notice any difference between the two tips with regards to deflection and general play. More likely you would form an opinion on the resulting practice and sound/feel of the hit. In that, we cannot influence the shot by our tip choice at the recorded 0.001sec etc. etc. it's so fast! We have no control or bearing of it, or any related success of playability, we base all our choices on feel. Quite rightly of course. Don't take my word for it, it's all science that the cue ball is totally gone the moment we thrust it forward! (see link) Tip contact time, efficiency and forceWhat is true and undoubtedly important is the tips ability to hold chalk. If you are regularly using a gator grip or similar scuffer then any of the 2 tips you outline will be fine with only periodic scuffing of the shape. Harder tips require more scuffing, also we need to consider what quality chalk we use? I'm almost boring myself with the variables, but you take the point. You most probably will be fine with any soft tip if you like the feel, you can assuringly check the durometer tables for the variances between common tips. Phil's a great shooter and made probably the most salient point that was quick and quirky! We could all shoot with Ronnie's Elkmaster and would seriously be no worse of for it. The yanks turn them into milk duds, it's the same thing. Hope some of the links I post here are of some use, they are certainly a lot more concise and informed than my ramble on the subject. j

Thanks a lot Jamie. Previously i had predator victory medium but comparing to kamui black M it was very soft in my opinion. I think predator M thats good compromise between kamui S and M. But.... I was not happy coz tip change shape after every harder shot like a sponge. I am not saying predator tips are bad just not what I expected. I had few sessions of pool last days and cant get use to new kamui M. Just annoying thing is that tip starts shine up after few frames and hardness of kamui M is so different to predator M. I think just need a bit more time spend on a table and shuld be all right. [ This message was edited by: sinnerro on 2014-03-28 21:34 ]

Cheers Andy, I see what you are saying (bloomin confusing right enough). The predator victory medium is by relative terms a very soft tip (79) a Kamui II soft is 78???? so why do predator think that their tip is a medium density one? when it is measuring 78 on the scale? a whole '1' in front of a soft kamui.' I appreciate there has to be a cut off point, this would be their excuse. The problem here is standardization and the interpretation of the rules, by what we think of a tip hardness and what they (manufacturers) may think. By way of this thread, and my own input and consideration. I shamelessly believe that as a consumer we do not want to play the fine margins with regards to tip density. They should sell all tips by the durometer rating and leave us to make up our own minds to what suits. I reckon this is why you have been not pleased with your Predator 'medium' (a laugh). Safe to say it won't be the end of us and we aint ready to challenge Jayson Shaw yet Cheers j
