The company that makes them (and owns the patent) is having major troubles (may have actually gone bust by now) and although it's one of the most popular tip tools on the market it's obviously now a big enough cash cow to help, so stocks of The Ulti-Mate Tip Tool worldwide are gradually disappearing! The CueTec "Bow Tie" is selling like hot cakes in The Pro Shop, and is very similar! ----------------- Authorised Pro9 forum advertiser/sponsor [ This message was edited by: BigDave on 2008-05-13 13:13 ]

The UTT is the best IMO because you can put it on the floor and rotate your cue shaft quickly to shape the tip. Other tools seem to rely on you twisting the tool over the tip which is a lot more time consuming and harder to get the right shape.

Why not look at a good shaper such as the "ITS GEORGE" The ultimate tip tool was a good item but i have a cuetec bowtie as well as an atrox tip tool and i think the bow tie is pretty good and look stylish. I shoot with snipers and one they have been domed initially i never have to re dome them so i don't use much other than the ITS GEORGE for the initial doming.. Depending how brave you are and of course how steady a hand you have dont overlook the dremel multi tool!!!!! For burnishing the edge of a tip its fantastic just use a buffing pad with a small amount of pure beeswax and it seals them nicely. I used this technique for snipers after speaking with Corey Harper at Tiger who suggested that using a harsh burnishing action actually causes a lot of tips to delaminate partially and so adjust the hit. The bees wax melts into the porous edge of the tip sealing it and prevent any mushrooms with out getting the tip too hot. ----------------- [ This message was edited by: PC on 2008-05-13 14:48 ]

Rotating the tip fast in a tip tool placed on the floor can create a lot of heat, this heat can make the tip's fibres contract into a tougher, dryer, more compact tip (one way of making a tip harder is to VERY CAREFULLY dance a flame over it, make sure you don't melt the ferrule!!! - I made my own jump tip from a Le Pro like this). However, we're getting a shedload of this delivered... I've seen it applied to the sides of a cue tip with a Q-Tip cotton bud (you know, the thing for cleaning the holes in your ears) whilst rotating the cue slowly on a lathe. This LIQUID BURNISHER comes in BROWN or CLEAR (clear looks nicer on laminated tips) and is a great way to burnish and seal the side walls of any tip. Dave i can recommend the above too i have a few bottle of this at home and it can be done without a lathe after applying it can be burnished in with paper........like to old shaft burnishing trick using a dollar bill. Without being rude Dave i bet you could jump with any tip even say a marshmallow in fact you just look at the ball and say jump and it flies over!!!!!!! If i was a ball i would be scared of you hitting me lol!!!!!!! ----------------- [ This message was edited by: PC on 2008-05-13 16:41 ]

Just a quickie to let you know that both types of liquid burnisher (clear and brown) are now in stock. Also we have tonnes of tip pads (red, blue and black) in stock too, order them in The Pro Shop or you can collect them at Wealdstone next week? All the best, Big Dave. ----------------- Authorised Pro9 forum advertiser/sponsor

Someone will need to invent a "DIY"way to recharge these as we sold our last sets of replacement refills at the last GB9 event - although I doubt that the refills are governed by the same patents, and I guess someone in China is already thinking about copying it.

The tip pads are definitely becoming more and more popular - whether it's because of the improved quality of "hit" or for more aesthetic reasons I'm not sure... Possibly a bit of both?

It dont think the tip pads do anything at all to the hit but they look cool. I have even seen a few people now with more that one tip pad on at once.
