I see that this new cloth is 80% wool and 20% synthetic, is it not the case that a lot of tournaments insist on a cloth that has at least 85% wool content? i'm sure that is the case for the Derby City Classic, just wondering if that tournament is a one off or does this cloth stand a chance of being used more widely? Just a thought?

That is correct. The WPA rules says that any cloth used in a tournament should be at least 85% wool. That does not mean it is not a good cloth, it only means it can not be used in f ex an epbf tournament. Thats why they use the Simonis 860 in the tournaments (90-10) and not 760 (70-30) I prefer the Gorina cloth, but I have not tried the Z9 yet. Looking forward to try it in Solihull

Z9 has been the official tour cloth of the Tiger Planet Pool Tour in America for over a year now, and Z9 will provide the cloth for the final tables for all GB9 events.
I think we'll see this being used and played on at plenty of events in the future.

What difference does it make having more wool than synthetic, what difference does it make to the way it plays?

Thick woolen cloths feel quite luxurious, but I've been told today (by more people at Cambridge who have played on this cloth) that it feels thicker, and plays well because they reckon it will keep it's better playing qualities for longer than existing cloths.
Apparently the "new cloth *slide* effect" will probably last longer because there appears to be more weaves per inch than other cloths.

More wool makes it slower but more consistent over a longer period of time. More nylon makes i faster (to a point) and will be more durable. Have you tried the IPT cloth? That is a 90 - 10 blend, and very slow. I think 80-20 will be more than ok for both strength and speed. Still looking forward to try it ----------------- Ine www.inehelvik.com

Seriously, apparently this new cloth is the nuts! Pro quality, predictable, consistent, reliable, longer lasting, a real beauty, ... Make sure you have a try on the finals table at the GB9 event in Solihull and see for yourself. Personally I like a thick cloth... It makes jumping easier and more controlled, and I'm very much in favour of 9 Ball being a three dimensional game, unlike the traditional 2D game of snooker. Let's see what you can add to this thread after Solihull eh? [ This message was edited by: BigDave on 2008-01-21 23:01 ]

Ads, I am sure that the 2 finals tables will be used all over the weekend so many many players will use them, they won't just be sitting there waiting for the finals !

Correct cueman. The semis and maybe quarters won't be played on them but all other rounds will.
