I would bet on Team Philippines. Here's 20 players from Philippines. You pick 20 players from any other country, and let's see who will win Efren Reyes, Francisco Bustamante, Ronato Alcano, Alex Pagulayan, Dennis Orcullo, Jose Parica, Lee Van Corteza, Roberto Gomez, Carlo Biado, Jharome Pena, Joven Bustamante, Marlon Manalo, Jeffrey De Luna, Antonio Gabica, D. Pulpul, Russian Petiza, Johann Chua, Ramil Gallego, Warren Kiamco, Rodulfo Luat

i think you need to put jericho banares first before petiza, bubwit chua.well we all know that the philippines have a deep set of players and there are the not so famous like victor arpilleda ,roland garcia, elvis calasang and more who can play with the world class players.but for me noboby can say that they are the best cause everyone has their own right to that title.i do agree that the success of the european players this year is phenomenal specially the british !!! two world champions and the other two world champions are from germany and netherlands.but the filipinos are usually the runner up.like r.gomez to peach (world 9 ball), busta to feijen (world straight ball), alcano to souquet (world 8 ball) and the other is from taiwan wu to aplleton(world ten ball).it seems the ladyluck is missing for the americans but they won the 3rd world cup of pool championship.

Just saying it how I see it. I also agree with you about it being silly to say we are the best in the world. But of course it's not silly to say we are very proud of the recent achievements of our top players, 4 of whom have done something phenominal in the last 12 months... Peach and Apps world champs, Majid's dominance of GB9 and Gray's dominance of the Euro Tour rankings.

think tigertonkin is a bit green to 9 ball and young lad, maybe posted his thread whilst intoxicated
for someone to post a list of 20 phillipino`s and then lay a challenege down is ridicolous, everyone knows the phillipinos are the strongest nation, its there national sport, live and breath it they do.no where near the best in the world but over the past few years the lads have competed and won world titles, the amount of players that play 9 ball in england is a minimal compared to phillipines, the lads are gettin there and winning titles, fair play

I get U riggers. It wasn´t the achievement I was after - it was how it was put in here.. 2008 England had 1 9-ball champion (2007 actually) and 2008 1 10-ball champion. These achievements divided by Peach & Appleton. That usually means that U guys have 1 2008 world champion and 1 ruling 2007 champion. In past 4 years (this year included) we´ve had 3 nations with 2 world champions: 2005 8, 9-ball China (Wu Chia-ching) 2006-7 8, 9-ball Philipines (Ronato Alcano) 2007 - 2007-8 9, 10-ball England (Peach, Appleton)

if i was american i would be ashamed of myself!!! Statements like this make me ashamed!!! I hope the rest of the world doesn't think all we Brits think this! I certainly do not! Just because someone wins a tournament doesn't make them the best player in the world! (it also doesn't mean that they are not) But world rankings are a better idea because they are formed over many events. When we have more top ranked players in the top end of these rankings than any other country, then we can talk! IMO the UK probably has only about 10 world class players! ----------------- [ This message was edited by: Shooter on 2008-10-20 21:27 ]

I have to agree with Jon, the only way to determine the best is to have a proper world ranking system. The only information that I can find is either on the WPA website or in the Billiards Digest magazine. WPA publish their version of the world rankings which is heavily biased towards Eurotour players, this is plainly crazy since most of the world's top players don't play the Eurotour. On the other hand, the Billiards Digest publish a list which includes tournaments that date back to 2006 and has events that were mainly played in the states. As can be seen there are very few similarities between these lists. A true world ranking system must include tournaments that include players from all around the world. These are some the events that should be included IMO: World 8 Ball Championship World 9 Ball Championship World 10 Ball Championship (if it is going to continue) US Open Can't think of anymore at the moment but would be interested to hear suggestions-

i was going to say soimething about the Quatar open but wasn't sure if it was an open. We should get a ranking list going how would you do points for this? Also, where can you find all the final standings from these events. P.S How could we forget the US Open as a major open event [ This message was edited by: Ads on 2008-10-22 14:37 ]

Bustamante plays Daz as we speak and it´s difficult to know the outcome. Daz took the first two frames and then Django 4 straight but he´s only 2 up.

I already have the US Open on my list, I also have most of the results necessary to compile a list. After the US Open is over I will compile a ranking.
Hasse you are on the wrong thread, get off!!!

The only one which is a true "Open" is the US But that's the way it is, I can't see any other way of doing this

Why am I on the wrong thread? I wrote earlier that Django and these top players didn´t attend the world 10-ball championships and that it does make a difference regarding the matter of deciding who is/are the best and therefore I made a comment when they met (Bustamante vs Daz) and Bustamante won (this time) 11-6.
