I sent another email to the BBC today. This time to Mike Bushell, just letting him know about the Brits doing so well internationally at pool, with links to some of our reports and great photos of the guys celebrating their wins. You know Mike, he presents the sport on Breakfast on Fridays, Saturdays, and some Sundays, when Chris Hollings is away... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/breakfast/presenters/4840846.stm... Mike often profiles an alternative sport or activity that doesn't usually get the limelight. The idea is that Mike represents the beginner with a view to getting people off the sofa and trying something new at a weekend. He's now tried over 125 sports or activities! He has replied already saying, "it's a good shout", and he's going to put it to the team... Hopefully BBC Forward Planning will sort something out and we'll see our lads on the BBC Breakfast sofa at some time in the future, celebrating their next big win, and getting the proper national recognition they deserve. ----------------- Authorised Pro9 forum advertiser/sponsor [ This message was edited by: BigDave on 2011-09-10 13:15 ]

The media doesn't make enough time to give acknowledgement and praise to British Sportsmen & women around the world that are competing regularly, representing the UK and I think that it's about time they did.
Perhaps if BBC don't give a fair shout, then ITV may be interested in doing something, but either way British 9Ball players have been making a hefty mark on the international pool scene for the past 6/7 years or more and it's absolutely disgusting that these players or the sport of American Pool, is still struggling to get any kind of recognition by mainstream media.
Perhaps if there was a properly organised, operated and completely open UK Championships and it was attended by a few national newspapers, perhaps that would help to give a bit more long overdue credit.

Just out of Curiousity...
If the GBPA is the supposed the NGB for American Cuesports in the UK, then it is their responsibility to be in regular contact with the national newspapers and soprts/news/radio media, to encourage the public knowledge and awareness of British Athletes' achievements internationally and to promote American cuesports nationally as a whole.

Btw, if there is ever going to be a UK Hall Of Fame for British 9Ball players or for people who have been an Ambassodr of Pool by merritous service, then Big Dave should definitely be the 1st person into the HoF under the Merritous service category.

Steady on there Willie, I only sent an email mate.
Secondly, even when we had the WORLD Championship in the UK we rarely saw the national media.
I DO think there's an opportunity here though, and the game in the UK could win, which would be good for us all.

Its gotta be better on ITV4 than the british touring car championships or whatever it is they have had on ITV4. Lets show our world champions off rather than hide them from the world.

A great point well made. ITV4 has the time of day for darts, Rugby and Rally, why not pool?

Admire your passion and what you do for the game BDK. Hard to see how 9 ball will get national tv exposure. The sports listed above will get far more viewers than any 9 ball comp will and that is what the tv companys care about. Not enough people play 9 ball competetively in this country or take an interest in competetive 9 ball. I think 9 ball has some great things going for it. Look at the players on GB9 - male, female, young, old, wheelchair players - all playing on a level basis at the highest level. Can't think of any other sport that can say that. Also think the money matches are an exciting part of 9 ball. I'd love to see a fly on the wall documentary on Darren, Raj or one of the other pros - would be fascinating with plenty of ups and downs I'm sure.
