OPENBET HITS THE BULLSEYE WITH MATCHROOM SPORT, PROFESSIONAL DARTS CORPORATION AND WORLD SNOOKER

OpenBet announces worldwide exclusive licensing agreement to develop and distribute new casino content on leading sports brands

Leading online gaming software supplier, OpenBet, is proud to announce it has teamed up with renowned sports promoters, Matchroom Sport, Professional Darts Corporation and World Snooker, to develop a range of online slot and mini-casino games. PDC Darts and World Snooker-themed games will be the first to launch in December 2011 with a stellar line up of new casino content, based on numerous leading sports brands and events, taking place throughout 2012.

The exclusive worldwide licensing agreement will see OpenBet design and build a selection of games themed around Matchroom, PDC, and World Snooker’s core sports programming and content, branching out eventually beyond darts and snooker to include pool, golf, boxing and sports fishing. The games will be made available to OpenBet’s roster of leading online sportsbook and gaming operators - which includes Ladbrokes, William Hill, Paddy Power, Bluesquare and Sky Bet - in the UK and legal international markets across the globe.

Matchroom Sport was set up in 1982 by the legendary sports promoter Barry Hearn and has been instrumental in the rise of some of the world’s biggest sports personalities. It is now the leading supplier of darts, boxing, golf and sports fishing TV content and programming, and via its subsidiaries, PDC and World Snooker, organises the world’s leading darts and snooker tournaments.

The World Darts Championship, Premier League Darts and World Matchplay head the PDC’s roster whilst World Snooker events include the Masters, Premier League Snooker and the World Snooker Championship sponsored by Betfred.com.

OpenBet and Matchroom will debut the branded content to coincide with the upcoming PDC Ladbrokes World Darts Championship. The first tranche of games releases will feature the highest-profile personalities from PDC and Matchroom portfolio, including the greatest player to ever throw a dart, Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor.

The World Darts Championship, won last year by Taylor’s protégé Adrian Lewis, takes place this year between 15 December 2011 and 2 January 2012 at its spiritual home, Alexandra Palace in London, and will be broadcast live in its entirety by Sky Sports and also in Holland, Germany and Australia.

Further content will be launched to coincide with the Masters Snooker later in the month, which is also moving to ‘Ally Pally’ for the first time in 2012 and will be broadcast by the BBC, Eurosport and CCTV China. Last year the tournament was won by Chinese sensation Ding Junhui who beat Marco Fu 10-4 in the final.

Barry Hearn, Chairman of Matchroom Sport, PDC and World Snooker, added; “OpenBet was the obvious partner for us. Their reputation for delivering innovative products is second to none and they have unrivalled relationships with the majority of operators in the UK. Our project to develop games aims to coincide with the numerous sporting events that we host throughout the year, giving operators the opportunity to maximise the return on their investment and allow them to keep their content relevant.”

David Loveday, Chief Executive of OpenBet, commented; “This is a fantastic license agreement for OpenBet and will enable us to produce exclusive casino content utilising some of the biggest names in numerous popular sports. Matchroom is another example of the quality partners we look to work with, enabling us to deliver products that stand out in the marketplace and are exceptionally relevant to our customer’s client base. PDC, Matchroom and World Snooker are fantastic brands and we are proud to be working together on this exciting, action-packed project that we are confident will prove a winner with sports fans all year round.”

Griffiths: Hendry Will Be Fired Up

Stephen Hendry plays in the qualifying rounds of snooker’s UK Championship next week, and his former coach Terry Griffiths believes he will be determined to get through to the venue.

Seven–times World Champion Hendry, the most successful player in the history of the sport, dropped out of the top 16 for the first time in 23 years earlier this season after a run of poor results. He’s now ranked 20th and heads to the South West Snooker Academy in Gloucester next week to try to qualify for the televised stages of snooker’s second biggest ranking event. He’ll face either Gerard Greene, Jimmy Robertson, Kurt Maflin or David Hogan next Wednesday, November 9.

Griffiths, who won the world title in 1979, said: “It’s always difficult for the top players when they drop into the qualifiers, but the good thing for Stephen is that he has played at Gloucester in PTC events this season, so he’s used to the venue and there will be a crowd there.

“When the qualifiers were staged at Prestatyn, the matches were in cubicles with hardly anyone watching, and it was very tough for those who were used to playing on TV.

“Stephen is playing well enough, in patches, to get back into the top 16. For him it’s all about motivation, and I’ve no doubt he will be fully motivated in the qualifiers. He would hate to miss any of the big ranking events, especially the UK and World Championship.

“He’s the best player of the modern era so it’s hard to drop down a level, but I think the qualifiers might inspire him. If I was still playing I definitely wouldn’t want to draw him. He can take inspiration from his friend Mark Williams, because Mark dropped out of the top 16 then got back to No 1 in the world.”

Griffiths, who coached Hendry for five years until 2005, added: “He is the most professional player I have ever worked with. In all the time I coached him, you could count the number of times he was a minute late for a session on the fingers of one hand. That’s one of the reasons why he was a great champion.”

Also taking part in the qualifiers, which run from November 6 to 9, are Steve Davis, Jimmy White, Ken Doherty, Peter Ebdon, Marco Fu and many others, aiming for a place in the final stages in York, from December 3 to 11.

TICKETS FOR THE QUALIFIERS ARE ON SALE NOW and start at just £5. For details call 01452 223214 or see www.southwestsnookeracademy.com. Buy a ticket for the qualifiers and get 20 per cent off a ticket for the final stages! For details see www.worldsnooker.com/tickets

Legend Davis Hopes He's Got Another Decade

Steve Davis sees no end in sight to his snooker career as he looks ahead to competing in the Wyldecrest Parks World Seniors Championship in Peterborough this weekend.

Davis is by far the oldest player on the professional tour at 54 but is still ranked inside the world's top 48 and reached the quarter-finals of the Betfred.com World Championship last year.

"Fred Davis played in the World Championship aged 64 in 1978 and that would be tough to beat, but it is possible," said the six-times World Champion. “I don’t see the need to stop playing. I know it’s going to get harder and harder to stay on the main tour because the standard is so high, but I’m still enjoying the challenge.

"Getting to the quarter-finals at the Crucible last year felt as though I had won the event. It makes it sweeter when you are not expected to win and the support I got was incredible. If someone can turn back the years, it’s a great story and everyone gets a thrill from it. Younger people said: ‘How did that happen ?’ and everyone over the age of 40 felt as though a blow had been struck for them.”

The player nicknamed the Nugget will be among competitors around his own age in the Seniors event at the East of England Showground in Peterborough, with only those 45 and over eligible. He got to the final last year, losing to Jimmy White, and this time faces Tony Drago in the first round on Saturday at 1pm.

“It will be competitive, but also fun," said the Essex cueman. "People who come along can expect to see smiles on the faces of the players. I think we got the balance right last year and hopefully it will grow into something bigger.”

Along with Davis and White, the likes of Dennis Taylor, John Parrott, Cliff Thorburn and Joe Johnson will be competing for the £18,000 top prize in the Sky-televised event.

TICKETS FOR THE EVENT ARE ON SALE NOW and it promises to be a wonderful weekend of exciting snooker. For details call 0871 620 7052 (calls cost 10p per minute plus network extras) or see www.worldsnooker.com/tickets

There's also a chance to MEET THE LEGENDS WITH BACKSTAGE ACCESS with our fantastic VIP tickets. The package also includes reserved seating, refreshments and a free ear piece and poster.

Standard tickets start at just £10 and when you buy a ticket you'll also have the chance to buy a half-price ticket for the Masters in London in January!

AMIT ENTERS WOMEN'S WORLD 10-BALL QUARTERS; RANOLA CRASH OUT
BY: MARLON BERNARDINO

MANILA, Philippines---Former world champion Rubilen "Bingkay" Amit of the Philippines defeated Keiko Yukawa of Japan, 8-4, to earn a spot in the quarterfinals of the 2011 Yalin World Women’s 10-Ball Championship Saturday here at the Robinson’s Galleria in Ortigas.

Amit, winner of this event two years ago, took a 7-1 advantage before Yukawa closed the match at 7-4 after winning three straight racks until Amit won the final rack.

"Suwerte lamang nakauna tayo," said the Cebuana native Amit, playing under the banner of sportsman/businessman Aristeo "Putch" Puyat.

Yukawa, earlier ousted defending champion Jasmin Ouschan of Austria, 8-7, in the Last 24.

Amit's entry into the quarterfinals made up for the early exit of compatriot and Puyat Stable team mate Iris "Fighter" Ranola. The Zamboanga bet Ranola, a former US Open women's finalist succumbed to H.S.Lai of Chinese-Taipei, 4-8.

Also made it to the quarter-final round were Ga Young Kim of Korea who brought downed Line Kjorsvik of Norway, 8-4, S.S.Lui of China who dealt Miyuke Fuke of Japan, 8-6, T.P.Chen of Chinese-Taipei who nipped D.D. Zhou of China, 8-6, H.S. Lai of Chinese-Taipei who outplayed Allison Fisher of Great Britain, 8-4, and Y. Han of China who cushed countryman X. Chen, 8-6.

Meanwhile, Filipina-American Mary Rakin failed to progress in the single knock-out format after group play.

A total of US$ 75,000 cash prize was put up by Yalin with the winner getting the lion's share of US$ 20,000 in the Dragon Promotions-organized tournament, in close cooperation with Puyat Sports and Star Billiards Center and aired at ABS-CBN through Studio 23 with the Philippines Star as official media partner.

DENNIS ORCOLLO YIELDS TO RALF SOUQUET IN PBB FACE OFF SERIES AT THE AIRPORT PAGCOR CASINO
by Marlon Bernardino

MANILA – Filipino Dennis Orcollo failed to exact vengeance on German Ralf Souquet in the Philippine Bigtime Billiards (PBB) Face Off Series late Saturday here at the PAGCOR Airport Casino in Paranaque City.

Souquet asserted his dominance over Orcollo, 9-6, in the race-to-9 10-ball affair, winner's break format aired worldwide through the Internet at www.megasportsworld.com, www.starbilliards.com, www.starbilliards.com.ph, Solar Sports, Sky Channel 70 and Destiny Channel 34 every Saturday.

The German cue artist took home the top prize worth $5,000 in joint undertaking of MegaSportsWorld and BRKHRD Corp in close cooperation with PAGCOR, PCSO, ACCEL, Diamond Table, Predator cues, Simonis cloth, Malungai Life Oil, I-Bar, Human Plus Probiotics, Golden Leaf Restaurant, Hermes Sports, Billiards Managers and Players Association of the Philippines (BMPAP) with the Philippine Star as the official media partner.

Orcollo, meantime received $2,500.

Souquet, who is called the "Kaiser" led the match, 5-0, to 6-3, before Orcollo, much known "Robocop" rallied in the end game to closed the match at 7-5 count. From there, Souquet won two of the three racks to enroute 9-6 victory.

"Luck was on my side until the end," said the former World 9-ball and 8-ball Champion Souquet, who beat World no.1 and World 8-Ball Champion Orcollo, 8-5, in the World Pool Masters finals last September in Manila.

"I did my best but Ralf still emerged better,” said Orcollo, top player of the star-studded Bugsy Promotions. "I looked forward to play again Ralf in the future," added the former fisherman from Bislig, Surigao del Sur.

The organizing committe MegaSportsWorld and BRKHRD Corp said another one more time match-up between Souquet and Orcollo slated next year.

Souquet's next opponent will be Up-and-coming billiards star Carlo "The Black Tiger" Biado on November 12, Saturday at 9 pm in the same venue dubbed as "The Prince versus The Emperor".

Other matches pitted Ronato Alcano vs Daryl Peach of Great Britain (Nov.19) and Francisco "Django" Bustamante vs Peach (Nov.26).

Higgins To Face Trump In Shoot-Out

The Snooker Shoot-Out in Blackpool in January will see a repeat of last season’s Betfred.com World Championship final in the first round.

The random draw for the 64-man event took place today and pitched John Higgins against Judd Trump. Wizard of Wishaw Higgins won the World final against rising star Trump 18-15 at the Crucible last May.

Nigel Bond will begin the defence of his Shoot-Out title against Robert Milkins, the player he beat in the final last season.

Mark Williams and Steve Davis, two players with eight world titles between them, will go head to head, while Stephen Hendry will take on up-and-coming potter Jack Lisowski.

Neil Robertson will play Jamie Cope in a repeat of the 2006 Grand Prix final and Ali Carter will take on Matthew Stevens in an all-top-16 clash.

The one-frame knockout Sky-televised tournament runs from January 27 to 29 at the Blackpool Tower Circus. It was staged for the first time last season and produced some sensational drama. Frames last a maximum of ten minutes, with a 20 second shot clock for the first five, dropping to 15 seconds for the last five.

TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW – for details call 0871 620 7052 or visit www.worldsnooker.com/tickets. Groups of six or more get a 10 per cent discount, so bring your friends along and have a great day out!

Morgan Wins Senior Crown

Darren Morgan saw off a series of snooker legends to win the Wyldecrest Parks World Seniors Championship.

Welshman Morgan beat Cliff Thorburn, Jimmy White and Steve Davis on the final day of the event at the East of England Showground in Peterborough to take the £18,000 top prize.

In fact the 45-year-old from Newport won a total of six matches in the event as he had to get through two rounds in the qualifiers. He conceded just one frame in the tournament, against Davis in the final.

Six-times World Champion Davis, who was also runner-up in this event last year, won the opening frame of the final with a break of 72. Morgan started the second with nine reds and blacks, and went to make 86 for 1-1.

Davis had an early chance in the decider but could only make 14 before missing a tricky red along the top cushion, and Morgan kept his composure with a run of 60 to secure the title.

"It's got to be up there with the best moments of my career," said Morgan, who won the Irish Masters during his pro career but never captured a ranking title. "It's just nice to be back and to be a World Champion.

"I came here just wanting to play well on TV, but I didn't expect to play that well. In the final I just told myself to enjoy it and not to be frightened of losing.

"It's been a fantastic tournament with good crowds and a brilliant atmosphere. I've really enjoyed seeing all the old friends and getting into the spirit of it."

Morgan dropped out of the pro game four years ago and insists that he would not contemplate trying to come out of retirement. "It can't happen, my life is too busy now," he said. "If someone could put me straight back in the top 32 I would consider it, but it would be too hard for me to get there.

"But if I got offered any wild cards for pro events then I would definitely be interested!"

Davis said: "That's two years in a row I've been runner-up, so maybe next year will be third time lucky. I missed a couple of pressure balls and Darren held himself together very well."

Textile manufacturer returns to UK ownership

Twenty years after it was bought by US based Milliken & Company, the Stroud textile business Milliken Woollen Speciality Products has returned to British ownership.

The business has been christened WSP Textiles Ltd, with three senior members of the management team joining a new board of directors.

The former Milliken Woollen Specialty Products management team who have seats on the board are the new chief executive David Smith, sales director Duncan Kettell and manufacturing director Malcolm Fallows.

They will be joined by non-executive chairman Michael Henderson, a former director of the textile conglomerate Coats Viyella.

The acquisition was arranged by Vespa Capital LLP, a private equity firm that helps management teams acquire and develop the businesses they manage, and the board is completed by Vespa Capital partners Nigel Hammond and Matt Lyons.

Commenting on the investment, Nigel Hammond said: “We are delighted to be investing in a world class, UK based, manufacturer and look forward to supporting the management team in delivering their investment plans.

“We believe the number of people playing tennis and snooker will increase around the world, particularly in Asia, and this will underpin the company’s growth prospects.”

The original company had made cloth since the 13th century and the WSP acronym recognises the founding mill owners, Messrs Winterbotham, Strachan and Playne.

Today the Strachan brand dominates the snooker market while Playne tennis ball cloth can be found on Dunlop, Wilson, Head, Tretorn and Babolat tennis balls used at many tournaments including Wimbledon and the French Open.

Chief executive David Smith has confirmed the company has a strong future. “All 160 of our highly-skilled employees have been informed their jobs are safe as we work closely as a team to ensure the business continues to prosper,” he said.

BIADO OUT FOR REVENGE SOUQUET IN PBB FACE OFF SERIES AT PAGCOR AIRPORT CASINO
BY: MARLON BERNARDINO

Manila, Philippines---Filipino Carlo "The Black Tiger" Biado and German ace Ralf "Kaiser" Souquet brace for an explosive showdown as they slug it out in the Philippine Bigtime Billiards (PBB) Face-Off series dubbed as "The Prince vs The Emperor" on Saturday (November 12), 9pm at the PAGCOR Airport Casino in Parañaque City.

A race-to-9, winner's break, 10-ball affair, the PBB Face Off series is set to give Philippine billiards another milestone as the first to be aired worldwide through the Internet, live streaming at www.starbilliards.com.ph, www.megasportsworld.com, www.philippinebigtimebilliards.com, Solar Sports, Sky Channel 70 and Destiny Channel 34 every Saturday.

Biado is out to avenge his twice 8-9 decision setback to Souquet during the Guinness 10-ball tour in Jakarta and the Philippine International Open 10-ball Championships in Manila last year.

"This time I will not disappoint my countrymen. I'm ready" said the La Union native Biado, a member of the star-studded Bugsy Promotions who won this year's tough BSCP National Pool Championships at the famous Star Billiards Center in Grace Village, Quezon City.

"He’s a great player so you don’t expect it to be an easy one,” said Souquet, who beat Filipino Dennis "Robocop" Orcollo, 9-6, in the PBB Face-Off series last Saturday.

The PBB Face Off is a joint undertaking of Mega Sports World and BRKHRD Corp in close cooperation with PAGCOR, ACCEL, Diamond Table, Predator cues, Simonis cloth, Malungai Life Oil, I-Bar, Golden Leaf Restaurant, Hermes Sports, Billiards Managers and Players Association of the Philippines (BMPAP) with the Philippine Star as the official media partner.

Sports Betting at MegaSportsWorld favored Souquet (-1.6) against Biado (+2.2), as of Wednesday.

A $1-bet on Biado would win $1.60. A $1-bet on Souquet would win $2.20.

Despite Souquet is heavily favored to win against Biado, sportsman/businessman Ceferino "Perry" Mariano of Bugsy Promotions is optimistic that his ward Biado can win the match. "Carlo (Biado) is the most under rated player today," he added.

"Hindi nakakasiguro si Ralf (Souquet). Malakas sumargo si Carlo at mga 9-3 to 9-4 prediction ko mananalo si Carlo pag pumanig y'ung bola sa kanya. Pero pag si Ralf naman nanalo kay Carlo ay 9-7 to 9-8 ang final score." last word of Mariano.

The Biado-Souquet match will usher in a series of challenge matches being put up by Mega Sports World and BRKHRD Corp. Other matches pitted Ronato Alcano vs Daryl Peach of Great Britain (Nov.19) and Francisco "Django" Bustamante vs Peach (Nov.26)

Pro9 Editor's Note: After an enquiry with Sports Betting at MegaSportsWorld by Pro9 it has been established that betting with MegaSportsWorld is only available to domestic (Philippines) bettors. This article is merely to inform our readers of progress in the worldwide pool industry.

Hendry And Davis Through To York

Snooker legends Stephen Hendry and Steve Davis both came through the final qualifying round of the UK Championship to book their place in the televised stages in York next month.

Seven-times World Champion Hendry is out of the top 16 for the first time since 1988 but safely negotiated the qualifiers at the South West Snooker Academy in Gloucester with a 6-2 defeat of Gerard Greene. Davis, meanwhile, beat Andrew Higginson 6-2 to earn a showpiece clash with Ronnie O'Sullivan in York.

Hendry made a break of 72 to go 2-0 up before World No 36 Greene recovered to 2-2 with a 104. A 63 from Hendry saw him regain the lead, and he took a scrappy sixth frame for 4-2. Another 63, from an unpromising position, extended his advantage, and he sealed victory by potting brown and blue in the eighth.

"I played solid snooker, nothing special apart from the break to go 5-2 up which was one of the best I've ever made," said 42-year-old Hendry, who has won the UK title five times. "It's a very good result and I'm delighted to get through. The UK Championship is a massive tournament, and although I'll be there working for the BBC, to go there without being in the draw would have been very hard.

"Playing in the qualifiers is a different kind of pressure for me, but my position in the rankings is self-inflicted and that's why I'm here. I'm not used to it and I want to get back into the top 16 as soon as possible. I just tried to concentrate on the match today and put in as much effort as I could."

Hendry will face fellow Scot Stephen Maguire in the first round in York on Saturday December 3 (evening session) and added: "I'm the qualifier so I have to expect a tough draw. Stephen knows what I'm capable of."

Six-times World and UK Champion Davis enjoyed breaks of 52 and 63 in a comfortable win over Higginson to set up his meeting with fellow Essex cueman O'Sullivan at the venue on Sunday December 4 (afternoon session).

Davis said: "You can't ask for more than a match against Ronnie at the UK. It's what we play for. Plus it gives me a day when I don't have to sit next to John Parrott!

"It was nervy and horrible today, I was all over the place, but Andrew was even worse. You just want to get to the venue. It's enjoyable grafting away and I don't get upset when I'm playing rubbish stuff.

"When I first dropped into the qualifiers, I just got stuck in and didn't say 'I'm not supposed to be here' - and I think Stephen (Hendry) will be the same. He's got nothing to worry about as long as he's optimistic and get's his attitude right. He’s bound to win some and lose some."

TICKETS FOR THE UK CHAMPIONSHIP ARE ON SALE NOW and there is still availability for many sessions. For details call 0844 854 2757 or visit www.worldsnooker.com

SPECIAL OFFERS:

Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 December are student nights, with tickets for students just £5 per night. That's a huge saving of £10. To claim this offer simply quote the offer code 'stud147' when booking tickets online, in person or by phone.

SOUQUET, BIADO SQUARE OFF TODAY
by Marlon Bernardino

Manila, Philippines---German Ralf "Kaiser" Souquet and Filipino Carlo "The Black Tiger" Biado, two of the world’s top cue artists, clash today, Saturday, November 12 in a one-night Philippine Bigtime Billiards Face-Off series at the PAGCOR Airport Casino in Paranaque City.

The match-up dubbed as The Prince versus The Emperor, set at 9 p.m. and live over Solar Sports, Sky Channel 70 and Destiny Channel 34, is just the second leg of the weekly face-off series pitting local and foreign cue artists in a race-to-9, 10-ball event also to be aired worldwide through the Internet, live streaming at www.starbilliards.com.ph, www.megasportsworld.com and www.philippinebigtimebilliards.com.

Souquet, a former world 8-ball and 9-ball champion, expects a tough match against Biado, one of the top player of star-studded Bugsy Promotions whom he face twice. The 42-year-old hopes to sustain his momentum after beating the Filipino bet twice with a 9-8 decision during the Guinness 10-ball tour in Jakarta and the Philippine International Open 10-ball Championships in Manila last year.

"He’s a great player so you don’t expect it to be an easy one,” said Souquet, who also beat World No.1 and World 8-ball Champion Dennis "Robocop" Orcollo, 9-6, in the PBB Face-Off series last Saturday.

Unlike in most tournaments where players have to endure more than one opponent to compete in the championship round, Souquet finds the one-game format new and exciting.

"This time I will not disappoint my countrymen. I'm ready" said the La Union native Biado, a member of the star-studded Bugsy Promotions who won this year's tough BSCP National Pool Championships at the famous Star Billiards Center in Grace Village, Quezon City.

Sports Betting at MegaSportsWorld favored Souquet (-1.5) against Biado (+1.5), as of Friday.

Other matches pitted Ronato Alcano vs Daryl Peach of Great Britain (Nov.19) and Francisco "Django" Bustamante vs Peach (Nov.26).

2011 Mosconi Cup Latest - Shuman gets Mosconi Cup call up

EXPERIENCED AMERICAN referee Ken Shuman has been appointed to officiate at the 18th annual PartyPoker.net Mosconi Cup, which takes place from 8 - 11 December at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Shuman, 63, has a wealth of experience in the game having been involved for the best part of 50 years as a player, referee and tournament director. He first officiated at the 1985 Reno Open, and since then has been head referee at a host of major events across the USA.

These include IPT tournaments, WPA World Championships and various high ranking competitions. Shuman was last seen in action at the recent US Open as tournament director and he also serves as TD at the Derby City Classic, US Open 10 Ball and Ultimate 10 Ball Championships.

Commented Shuman; “I am deeply humbled and extremely grateful that Matchroom Sport has appointed me to referee at the Mosconi Cup and it is the culmination of a dream I’ve had since the very first competition back in 1994.”

“Officiating on pool’s most exciting worldwide stage is, without a doubt, the highest honour a professional referee can receive - now I know how it must feel to reach the summit of Mount Everest,” he added.

Shuman will be working alongside Matchroom Sport’s Michaela Tabb, who will be officiating at her 15th consecutive Mosconi Cup.

The PartyPoker.net Mosconi Cup takes place at the MGM Grand from Thursday to Sunday 8-11 December and features two five man teams representing the USA and Europe doing battle over four heated days.

FAST PACED SNOOKER AND SEXY GIRLS?

Power Snooker takes a 'break' from the norm

'Fast paced' and 'sexy girls' are not words normally associated with snooker, but the Power Snooker Masters trophy is set to change all that when it comes to Manchester this month.

Power Snooker is a new format of snooker; being likened to snooker's version of Twenty20 cricket, each game is just 30 minutes long and it's points not frames that count.

The world's top 16 snooker players will be coming to Manchester 19 & 20 November to compete for the title of Power Snooker Masters champion 2011. Power Snooker premiered at the o2 in London in 2010 and reigning champion Ronnie O'Sullivan will be hoping to retain the title over the two-day tournament which will take place in EventCity at the Trafford Centre.

The pace of the play is not the only thing that makes Power Snooker different from traditional snooker; the audience are encouraged to interact and cheer on the players, there's live music from the Power Snooker band, and then there's the sexy Power Girls.

The Power Girls are 3 sexy Page 3 stunners who will walk the players to the table in the main arena. Blonde Rhian Sugden is a local girl, hailing from Bury and she will be joined by Amii Grove and Lacey Banghard.

Talking about this exciting new event on her home turf, Rhian said: "I'm very excited to work with Lacey and Amii on the Power Snooker, especially as it's in my home town. It looks like it's going to be a really fun couple of days. I'm a fan of Ronnie O'Sullivan, and I'm also looking forward to seeing Amy Diamond sing in the Band too!"

As well as Ronnie O'Sullivan, the other players taking part are Judd Trump, John Higgins, Shaun Murphy, Ali Carter, Stephen Maguire, Mark Selby, Graeme Dott, Ding Junhui, Mark Williams, Neil Robertson, Stuart Bingham, Mark Allen; Matthew Stevens, Martin Gould and Stephen Lee.

The Power Snooker Masters Trophy is at EventCity, the Trafford Centre, Manchester 19-20 November.

Ace Trump Wins Antwerp Thriller

Judd Trump beat Ronnie O'Sullivan 4-3 in a sensational final at Players Tour Championship event nine in Antwerp, Belgium.

A high quality encounter between two of snooker's most dazzling talents at the Lotto Arena was watched by a crowd of nearly 1,500. They saw O'Sullivan open with a break of 63 to take the first frame, before Crucible finalist Trump fired in 68, 65 and 65 to go 3-1 up. Back-to-back centuries, 118 and 132, saw O'Sullivan back to 3-3 but Bristol's Trump took the deciding frame with runs of 44 and 41, aided by a fluke on match-ball.

It's World No 7 Trump's second PTC title this season and he is rewarded with 10,000 Euros and 2,000 ranking points. Trump, O'Sullivan and Neil Robertson have dominated the PTC series so far, winning two apiece of the nine events.

"It was a really special match because the atmosphere was like the World Championship final, " said 22-year-old Trump. "Ronnie always gets more support so to deliver a performance like that against him gives me a boost. He makes big breaks and puts you under it. Even at 3-1 up I was just hoping for a chance to win it.

"This season has been pretty good so far, I've been more than happy with the way I've played. I lost my first match in the two main ranking events but I've done well in the PTC events and I'm really looking forward to the UK Championship and the Masters now because those are the big ones."

As for the success of the tournament in Belgium, Trump added: "I definitely think we could have a full ranking event here. The fans have been great and the players would be more than happy to come back."

The PTC is a series of 12 short events, with the top 24 on the final Order of Merit going through to the Grand Final in March, providing they have played in at least three domestic events and three overseas. The next tournament is PTC10 in Sheffield from November 27-30.

O'Sullivan - I Could Have Challenged Hendry's Records

Ronnie O'Sullivan believes he could have contested Stephen Hendry's records of snooker's major titles if he had fulfilled his potential throughout his career.

O'Sullivan, age 35, has slipped down the rankings in recent seasons and does not see himself as a leading contender for snooker's biggest titles, with the UK Championship coming up in December followed by the Masters in January.

"I've won four UK titles, four Masters and three Worlds, which is a good haul, but in my mind I have under-achieved," said the Essex player who is currently ranked 11th and has no certainty of keeping his top 16 place for the rest of the season. "I should have won two more World titles, two more Masters and maybe another UK. I've been in nine Masters finals and I should have converted another couple of those.

"I could have had Stephen Hendry's records in site, but I have had a lot of ups and downs in my career. I suppose with the mindset I have had at times, I should be happy with what I've achieved.

"I'm still excited when I look forward to the big events. I'm happy to be the underdog now, even though I would much rather be among the favourites and really fancying my chances. The other players have flown past me and rankings don't lie. I'm coming from a different place where I enjoy events and hope to nick a big scalp. There is no pressure on me to win."

O'Sullivan came through the pro ranks with John Higgins and Mark Williams, and though the trio are less than nine months apart in age, O'Sullivan feels he has fallen behind.

"Those two are still winning titles," he said. "I was doing the same until two years ago, but I'm not any more so I'm not in that category. Then you've got Mark Selby who is World No 1 and very consistent, Shaun Murphy, Judd Trump, Neil Robertson and Ding Junhui. There are eight or nine players who are winning everything, and I'm not one of them. It's touch and go whether I'll even be in the top 16 when the World Championship comes around."

O’Sullivan plays Steve Davis in the first round at the UK Championship on Sunday December 4 (afternoon session). TICKETS FOR THE TOURNAMENT ARE ON SALE NOW and there is still availability for many sessions. For details call 0844 854 2757 or visit www.worldsnooker.com
