Gould Makes Breakthrough With UKPTC2 SuccessMartin Gould won a tournament carrying ranking points for the first time by beating Stephen Maguire 4-3 in the final of UK Players Tour Championship event two at the South West Snooker Academy in Gloucester. Londoner Gould climbed into the top 16 last season and also won the Power Snooker event, and can now add a PTC title to his snooker CV. Victory is worth £10,000 plus 2,000 ranking points to the 30-year-old former casino croupier. Scotland's Maguire won UKPTC1 last month and looked on course for a repeat victory when he took the first frame of the final with a break of 64. Gould hit back to win three of next four frames, compiling runs of 65 and 52 and nicking the fifth on a respotted black. Maguire won the next for 3-3 and when he fluked a red when escaping from a snooker in the decider he had the chance of a match-winning break, but could only make 41. The frame came down to the colours and Gould potted an excellent long green and added the brown and blue to win the title. "It feels amazing to win a tournament with ranking points for the first time," said world No 16 Gould. "My aim now is to win some big titles. "Last week I started working with a coach called Stephen Feeney who has done a lot for the likes of Mark Davis and Stuart Bingham. He noticed a fault in the way I was sighting the ball and fixed it straight away. The improvement has been beyond my expectation and every time I was among the balls this week I felt as if I was going to clear up. "I lost a lot of close matches at the end of last season and I realise now that was because of the problem with my sighting and cue action. It feels great to know it is fixed." The Players Tour Championship is a series of ten events, four in the UK and six in Europe, with the top 24 on the final Order of Merit going through to the Grand Finals in March. They will be joined by eight players from the Asian PTC Order of Merit. The next event is Betfair European Tour 1 (the Paul Hunter Classic) from August 23-26 in Fuerth, Germany. Results (last 16 onwards): Last 16 Stephen Maguire 4-3 Shaun Murphy Pankaj Advani 0-4 Alan McManus Joe Perry 4-3 Michael White Nigel Bond 0-4 Mark Williams Alfie Burden 4-1 Robert Milkins Judd Trump 2-4 Ryan Day Ben Woollaston 4-1 Liang Wenbo Martin Gould 4-3 Mark Allen Quarter Finals Stephen Maguire 4-1 Alan McManus Joe Perry 4-1 Mark Williams Alfie Burden 4-3 Ryan Day Ben Woollaston 2-4 Martin Gould Semi Finals Stephen Maguire 4-3 Joe Perry Alfie Burden 1-4 Martin Gould Final Stephen Maguire 3-4 Martin Gould

IT'S ABOUT TIME TO CHANGE THE METHOD OF PHILIPPINE SPORTS---BMPAP HEAD PERRY MARIANOby Marlon Bernardino THE 2012 Olympic Games in London, United Kingdom is over. The Philippines did not get even a Single Medal even at least a Bronze medal for that matter. Billiards Managers and Players Association of the Philippines (BMPAP) founding head Ceferino "Perry" Mariano said its' about time that our sports officials adopt the right methods must be employed to produce world champions in the future particularly the coveted gold medal in the Olympic games. "We must monitor what the athletes take in, how he prepares, anu ang mga kailangan ng isang atleta natin. National pool players recently sought an audience with Philippine Sports Commission chair Richie Garcia and aired their problems regarding their attendance and allowances with BSCP officials. BSCP (Billiards Sports Confederation of the Philippines) head Arturo "Bong" Ilagan Jr. said the PSC should have not entertained the players in the first place, saying it’s a simple case of misunderstanding that could be resolved internally. Mariano along with Philippine Billiard God Father Aristeo "Putch" Puyat together with hall of famer Efren "Bata" Reyes, North Cotabato Rep. Bernard Pinol Jr., Mahar Mangahas, Jimmy Chongco and Christine Caparras are on the tug of war of the group of Ilagan, Roberto Mananquil and Ruben Roque for the legitimate leader of the country's pool association. “For the meantime, we will observe status quo. It’s purely internal and the NSAs are always regarded as autonomous. They have to settle it among themselves, based on their constitution,” said Jose Romasanta, POC spokesperson earlier said in an interview. “It’s within the NSA (national sports association) and the POC,” added PSC chair Garcia.

EGYPTIAN FEDERATION OF BILLIARDS SPORTS(Carom-Snooker -Pool) 83 Ramses Street Cairo Egypt. Tel: (202) 25744934 Fax: (202) 25781884 URL: www.e-efbs.org Email: ragehhosny@yahoo.comDate: Wednesday, 15 August 2012 Dear friends, The board of the Egyptian Federation of Billiards Sports decided in its meeting yesterday to apologize for not being able to host the 2012 World Snooker Championship due to the current security issues, paralleled with a new Minister and regime, and a critical economic situation. We were looking forward to welcoming you all in Egypt; however we had to take this painful decision to allow for another host country enough time to prepare for the 2012 World Snooker Championship. We were honored that you gave us the chance to host the championship and will work hard with the government, the member clubs and the corporate world to bid again for hosting the championship soon. Best regards Mohammed Kammah EFBS President

CENTENO WINS, RANOLA FALTERS IN YALIN WOMEN'S WORLD 10-BALLby Marlon Bernardino Manila---THIRTEEN year old Cheska Centeno of the Philippines kicked off her campaign with a 6-4 win over Japan's Noriko Onoda as the WPA (World Pool-Billiard Association) 4th Annual Yalin Women's World 10-Ball Championship got underway yesteday at the Robinson's Galleria in Ortigas. Before a huge and appreciative crowd, the Zamboanga native cue artists broked the 4-all deadlock winning two consecutive racks for a 6-4 victory. "Mabuti na lamang naging matatag ako sa bandang huli, masyadong dikitan ang laban eh," she said. But reigning Southeast Asian Games double gold medallist Iris Ranola also from the Philippines is not as fortunate as she dropped her opening matches against Kimuka Maki of Japan with a similar 6-4 output. " Di sumasablay y'ung kalaban natin eh. Hanggang sa huli matatag pa din sya saka malas talaga," said Ranola who hails also from Zamboanga City. Ranola had a chance to reach the hill but missed a tough 9-ball show allowing her Japanese rival to seized 5-4 lead and never looked back. "Krusyal y'ung 9-ball pero mahirap talaga kung naipasok ko y'ung lamang sana ako na 5-4 para maging puro ako at ako pa ang sasargo," she added. With the early setback, Ranola is a must win situation against Charlene Chai of Singapore. Ranola and Charlene, both 1-1 record in their head to head matches. Charlene defeated Ranola during the semi-final round of the 2009 Laos SEA Games but the latter's (Ranol)a avenged her defeat after edging the former (Charlene) in this year's WPA World 9-ball in China. A whopping top prize $21,000 is up for grabs in the Dragon Promotions event and supported by Asian table mammoth Yalin Billiards, advanced cue engineer OB Cues, long lasting Championship Tour Edition Cloth, top playing Aramith Balls, and #1 TV network broadcaster ABS-CBN. In other matches saw, Kyoko Sone of Japan nipped Amanda Rahayu of Indonesia, 6-2, Xiao Ting Pan of China crushed Shen Men Liu of Chinese-Taipei, 6-2, Lin Hsiao Chi of Chinese-Taipei waylaid Nicola Rossouw of Republic of South Africa, 6-2, Chang Yang Ting of Chinese-Taipei dealt Bokka Junko of Korea, 6-2, and Lai Hui Saan of Chinese-Taipei outclassed Kynthia Ofrandis of the Netherlands, 6-5.

AMIT, CENTENO CONTINUE WINNING WAYS IN YALIN WOMEN'S WORLD 10-BALLby Marlon Bernardino FILIPINA Rubilen "Bingkay" Amit continued her streak in the ongoing WPA (World Pool-Billiard Association) 4th Annual Yalin Women's World 10-Ball Championship yesterday at the Robinson's Galleria in Ortigas. The Cebuana native Amit, who also won Women's World 10-Ball Championship four years ago, used her power breaks to defeat B.R. Jung of Korea, 6-2, and K.Yukawa of Japan, 6-1, respectively to match the 2-0 record of countryman 13-year-old Cheska Centeno of Zamboanga City. “Break has become the difference in the match,” said Amit, playing under the Puyat Sports after the match. “I had a more solid breaking game in my first two matches.” she added. Centeno on the other hand, dumped M. Grujicic of Venezuela, 6-0, for her second straight wins in as many rounds. She earlier beat Japan's Noriko Onoda, 6-4. Another Filipino entry Iris Ranola of Zamboanga City had a 1-2 win-loss record. The reigning Southeast Asian Games double gold medallist is not as fortunate as she dropped her opening matches against Kimuka Maki of Japan with a similar 6-4 output then followed a 6-4 victory against Singaporean Charlene Chai but bowed to L. Fulberg of Sweden, 4-6. 2010 World 10-ball champion Jasmin Ouschan of Austria is the first player advanced to the knock-out stage. She beat N. Praveen of India, 6-2, K. Sone of Japan, 6-3, and Ga Young Kim of Korea, 6-4. Defending champion Kelly Fisher of Great Britain, meantime tallied 2-1 record. She beat A. Mazhirina of India, 6-2, and Onoda, 6-0, but failed to Yu Ram Cha of Korea, 5-6. According to Charlie Williams of the organizing Dragon Promotion, the four-day $21,000 top prize event divided into eight groups, with the top three players from each group will advance to the next round.

Bluebell Wood Becomes World Snooker’s Official CharityBluebell Wood Children’s Hospice in Sheffield has become World Snooker’s official charity partner for the 2012/13 season. The hospice in North Anston offers care and support to children with a shortened life expectancy, both in their own homes and at the hospice. It provides support to children and their families throughout South Yorkshire, North Derbyshire, North East Lincolnshire and North Nottinghamshire. Last season, World Snooker supported Haven House Children’s Hospice in Essex and raised more than the target sum of £120,000. It is hoped that a similar sum can be raised for Bluebell Wood. World Snooker Chairman Barry Hearn and WPBSA Chairman Jason Ferguson visited Bluebell Wood today to announce the partnership. Barry Hearn said: ”We are delighted to be able to support such an amazing charity. It’s only when you visit Bluebell Wood that you realise the extent of the work they do for children and their families. It costs £3 million a year to provide that service and they receive no statutory government funding. We are determined to do everything we can to help them and we have several initiatives lined up which will raise money. Once again, player fines will be donated to the charity. “Sheffield is the Snooker City so it is fitting that we are working with a charity in the region.” Jason Ferguson added: “It’s important to realise how lucky we are to be healthy, with healthy children, and to be generous to those who are not as fortunate. Bluebell Wood is a fantastic cause and we’re urging everyone to get involved and make a donation.” Sarah Champion, Chief Executive of Bluebell Wood, said: “We are so proud that World Snooker have decided to support Bluebell Wood. It is an incredible honour to be chosen. It is only through the support of organisations such as World Snooker that we can continue giving the vital support to children in our region who will not reach adulthood.” To find out more about Bluebell Wood and to make a donation visit http://www.bluebellwood.orgPictured: Barry Hearn and Jason Ferguson with 17-year-old Joe Hazel, who is currently staying in the hospice.[ This message was edited by: BigDave on 2012-09-05 16:25 ]

WPBSA Statement - Ronnie O'SullivanOn 23rd August 2012 the Disciplinary Committee of the WPBSA heard the case of Ronnie O’Sullivan who had been referred to them by World Snooker Limited. The circumstances alleged were that he had entered and subsequently withdrawn from eleven Tournaments without reasonable excuse between August 2010 and March 2012. After considering evidence provided on behalf of Mr O’Sullivan and independent medical advice, the Disciplinary Committee found that it could not be shown to the required standard that he did not have a reasonable excuse in relation to his late withdrawal from the one event in 2011 and the two events in 2012. He was however found not to have a reasonable excuse in relation to the eight late withdrawals in 2010. This is in breach of the following Members Rules: WPBSA Members Rules and Regulations: Obligations of Members 1 General obligations Rule 1.3 of the WPBSA Members Rules 2009 - January 2012 states: 1.3 A Member must play in a Tournament in which he is entered. In making their decision on sanction the Committee took into account that these late withdrawals had taken place before there was a player’s contract and there was no formal process in place for dealing with this, and that Mr O’Sullivan had already paid fines to World Snooker Limited regarding the later breaches of contract issues. The Committee imposed a fine of £1,000, suspended for the remainder of the 2012/13 season, a formal warning as to his future conduct and for him to pay £1,000 towards the costs of the hearings.

Shane still in charge with one event to goA GREAT VICTORY at the Turning Stone summer event saw Rhode Island's Mike Dechaine leap frog Dennis Hatch to put himself in position to grab one of the two automatic qualifying spots on Team USA at the 2012 PartyPoker.com Mosconi Cup. Dechaine is now second, trailing a dominant Shane Van Boening who is a racing certainty to make his sixth Mosconi Cup appearance when the event takes place at the York Hall, London from 10th - 13th December. Other players in the mix are potential debutants Brandon Shuff (#4) and Stevie Moore (#5). Both had sufficiently high finishes at Turning Stone to propel them into the reckoning. Further down the ranking at 11th spot, veteran Johnny Archer will need a very big finish at the final event in the series - October's US Open - if he is to maintain his unbroken run of 14 successive Mosconi appearances. With the top two positions guaranteed, there are still plenty of players in contention and nerves will be frayed at Chesapeake Bay. Points in the series are allocated as per the BCA Points List and each event is weighted depending on total purse, size of field and number of top-ranked players competing. Only players finishing in the last 32 of each event will be allocated points and at the conclusion, after the 2012 US Open, the top two players will automatically gain entry to the Mosconi Cup side. The remaining three players will be Matchroom Sport wildcard picks although the ranking will play a part in this. The Ranking 1. ( - ) Shane Van Boening - 367.5 2. (↑1) Mike Dechaine - 342 3. (↓1)Dennis Hatch - 233 4. (↑4) Brandon Shuff - 215 5. (↓1) Stevie Moore - 212 6. (↓1) Rodney Morris - 204 7. ( - ) Oscar Dominguez - 179.5 8. (↓2) Mike Davis - 174.5 9. (↑10) Shawn Putnam - 170 10. (↓1) Corey Deuel - 149 11. (↑2) Johnny Archer - 127 12. (↑12) Jeremy Sossei - 98.5 T13. (↑13) Hunter Lombardo - 88.5 T13. (↓3) Earl Strickland - 88.5 15. (↓4) Louis Ulrich - 85

Third times the charm for KoChinese Taipei's Ko Ping Chung finally makes it on his third attempt as he beats his elder brother Ko Pin Yi to lift the Champion's trophy at the 4th Golden Break 9 Ball Asia Invitational Championship 2012 here at Golden Break Subang USJ. Majority predicted Pin Yi to be the winner as he played a better game today compared to his younger brother. This was however immediately proven wrong when the match started, as Ping Chung sped off straight to a 7-2 lead, leaving Pin Yi clueless as he trails behind. Pin Yi tried to close the gap but was still far behind, the closest at 9-11 trailing. That was the last rack Pin Yi could win as Ping Chung took remaining the 2 rack, winning the match and Championship by 13-9. Ping Chung takes home the Champion's trophy and cash prize USD8,000 whilst his brother Pin Yi takes USD 4,000 cash prize for his Runner up effort. For more photos from the event, kindly visit Team Sports Marketing Facebook page here www.facebook.com/teamsportsmalaysia (l-r) Ko Pin Yi, Golden Break Group Chairman Mr Shin and Ko Ping Chung
