ORCOLLO WINS US OPEN 10-BALL CHAMPIONSHIP; POCKETS $15,000by Marlon Bernardino FILIPINO Dennis “Robocop” Orcollo added the 4th US Open 10-Ball Championship (formerly Billiards Congress of America) to his growing list of tournament achievements when he won on Saturday (Sunday morning in Manila) at the Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. Regarded as the top player of Bugsy Promotions, Orcollo defeated compatriots 2004 WPA World 9-Ball Champion Alex "The Lion" Pagulayan, 9-8, in the semi-final round and 2010 WPA World 9-Ball Champion Francisco "Django" Bustamante, 11-5, in the finals to win the top prize of US$15,000. The top player of Puyat Sports Bustamante, on the other hand, received the runner-up prize of US$8,500. Lag between Dennis “Robocop” Orcollo and Francisco "Django" Bustamante of the Philippines. On the road to the semi-finals, the 2011 WPA World 8-Ball Champion Orcollo needed to beat Oscar Dominguez of Mexico, Kostas Paspatis of Greece, Mike Dechaine and Manny Chau of USA and Rain Chiang of Taiwan, respectively. Orcollo, a former fisherman from Bislig, Surigao del Sur’s trip to United States was supported by Malungay Life Oil, Bugsy Promotions, BRKHRD Corporation, Hermes Sports, ACCEL, B-League Corp., BMPAP (Billiards Managers and Players Association of the Philippines) and Quezon City government headed by mayor Herbert Bautista, vice-mayor Joy Belmonte and rep. Winston Castelo. ""I want to show through my actions that athletic excellence can be achieved with dedication, hard-work and support." said the reigning Philippine Sportswriter Association (PSA) Co-Athlete of the Year Orcollo, a feared money-game shark anywhere in the world. "I would like to dedicate my victory to my countrymen and as well as my boss Perry and Verna (Mariano) who has been helping me compete abroad,” added Orcollo, 2011 Southeast Asian Games gold medallist. According to sportsman/businessman Ceferino “Perry” Mariano, president of the star-studded Bugsy Promotions and long-time benefactor of Orcollo, winning the prestigious 4th US Open 10-Ball Championship (formerly Billiards Congress of America) is another good news for Philippine Sports. Mariano, also the founder of the National Collegiate Billiards League (NCBL) or B-League was ecstactic of Orcollo’s feat. Last May 6, Orcollo dismantled Shane Van Boening of USA, 11-3, in the finals enroute the 3rd Annual Hard Times 10-Ball Open title at the Hard Times Billiards in California, USA. Other Filipinos who competed in the formerly Billiards Congress of America tournament were Jose "Amang" Parica, Santos "The Saint" Sambajon and Jun Almoite. Ramon “Maestro Monching” Mistica, who acted the spokesman of the Philippine contingent, said that Filipino pool wizards will resume their quest for honor and glory when the 2012 WPA World 9-Ball Championship gets underway on June 22 to 29 the Al Sadd Sports Club Al Sadd St. Sport Roundabout in Doha, Qatar. Orcollo will teaming up with Bustamante and Filipino billiards maestro Efren "Bata" Reyes as well former World Women's 10-ball ruler Rubilen "Bingkay" Amit for the 2012 World Teams gets underway on June 30 to July 6 in China. Dennis “Robocop” Orcollo in his winning form.[ This message was edited by: BigDave on 2012-05-20 07:52 ]

Orcollo Prevails in Battle of ChampionsLas Vegas, NV. - May 24, 2012 – The last day of the CSI 4th US Open 10-Ball Championship, held May 14-19 at the Riviera Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, was a battle of three world champions, all from the Philippines, and a young gun from the United States. Three matches were scheduled, the quarter, semi and final. The quarter final was between 25 year old US player, Mike Dechaine, and recent BCA Hall of Fame recipient Francisco Bustamante. In the past two years Dechaine ramped up his game from feared New England player to participant on the pool world stage. In 2011 he was a member of the US Mosconi Cup team and won the Ultimate 10-Ball Championship. Bustamante is a legend, a multiple world champion and one of a handful of players whom other professional players hope to challenge at least once in their career, win or lose, just to say they did. On this day, Bustamante prevailed against rising star Dechaine 9-4 at the premier CueSports International (CSI) event. Dechaine took home 4th place and $4,800. Now it was down to three, all former world champions. In the semi-finals Bustamante was pitted against fellow countryman, Alex Pagulayan. After a two year hiatus from pool competition, Pagulayan has been playing as fearless as ever. In this match he started off in the lead as Bustamante struggled, but not for long, as Busty caught a gear and beat Pagulayan 9-7 relegating “The Lion” to a 3rd place finish and $6,500. Waiting in the hot seat was Dennis “Robocop” Orcollo. In the finals against Bustamante, Orcollo dominated from the first rack. The CSI US Open 10-Ball Championship final race was to 11. The winner was required to win two ahead with a maximum cap of 15 games to win. The final match took less than two hours with Orcollo quickly taking the win 11-5 and $15,000. At age 33, Orcollo is currently one of the best players in the world. Ranked #6 on the World Pool Billiard Association men’s list, he first burst on to the world pool scene in 2002 as a relative unknown, taking his first world championship. His list of wins in the past 10 years has been highly regarded. In addition to the CSI 4th US Open 10-Ball Championship, it includes the 2011 DCC 9-Ball Division, the 2011 World 8-Ball Championship, the 2010 World Pool Masters, the 2009 Predator International 10-Ball Championship, the 2008 Qatar World Open 9-Ball Tournament, the 2006 US Bar Table Championships 8-Ball Division and the 2006 Reno Open, just to name a few. The 4th US Open 10-Ball Championship was sponsored by CueSports International (CSI), Simonis Cloth, Aramith, OB Cues, Mueller Recreational Products, and the Magic Ball Rack with live stream coverage by The Action Report (TAR). In 2013, the 5th US Open 10-Ball Championship will be moved from May to July and held at a new venue, the Rio All-Suites Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas in conjunction with the 37th BCAPL National Championships. To view online all of the brackets from the 36th BCAPL National Championships, the 13th US Open One Pocket Championship and the 4th US Open 10-Ball Championship, visit the CueSports Tournament System at www.ctsondemand.com. You may search by player or team name or can view by division or tournament. For more information about the BCAPL visit www.playbca.com. CueSports International (CSI) is dedicated to creating more choices for all players. In the past seven years CSI has directly paid out approximately Seven Million Dollars to players. Dynamic Austria Open 2012 soon to beginFull field with high class players Saturday, 26 May 2012: The Dynamic Austrian Open 2012 will begin next week on Thursday, May 31st, 2012. The Austrian Open will be the third stop of this year’s Euro-Tour series. A total of over 170 players have already announced their participation in the event, 31 of them are local Austrian players. Among the strong Austrian contingency are Jasmin and Albin Ouschan. Albin has won the first tournament of this year’s Euro-Tour in Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina. A total amount of 34.000,-€ are on the line for the top 48 finishers of the tournament. Also remarkable is the fact that six female players have announced for the event. The EPBF has launched its European Women Rankings this year, and all European Championships, the Ardennes Cup, separate tournaments in Sweden, Italy and Germany come into the account for ranking points. The Dynamic Austria Open does not count into the women’s ranking but is still interesting for top female players to compete on a high quality level. Matches will begin in the Alpina Hotel in Alpendorf, St. Johann, Austria, on Thursday, May 31st, at 09:00 CET. Spectators are welcome. The admission is free. The event will be hosted by the European Governing Body for Pool, the European Pocket Billiard Federation (EPBF) and organized by International Billiard Promotion (IBP). For further information and reference please go to the federation website www.epconline.eu , follow us on twitter @EPBF_News or contact our press office.

Sensational Sargon Claims First National Snooker TitleBy Alan Morris California's Sargon Isaac has sensationally won the United States National Snooker Championship title with victory in the final of this year's event at the Embassy Billiards Club in San Gabriel, California. In what was his first appearance in the Championship, Isaac proved to be a revelation as he performed very well in winning all of his group matches in addition to his round of 16 and quarterfinal ties without dropping a frame - it was not until the fourth frame of his semifinal against Jack Kung did he finally lose a frame. 26-year-old Isaac faced his regular practice partner at Shoreline Billiards in Mountain View, California, Ajeya Prabhakar in the final, in what would be a repeat of the final event on the 2011-12 United States Snooker Association (USSA) Tour played last month at Shoreline Billiards. For the highly experienced Prabhakar, playing in his fifth championship final and the third in the past four years, it was an opportunity to finally get that second title he so desired after he had earlier put out the defending champion Ahmed Aly in an epic semifinal encounter. Isaac, who grew up and learned his snooker in Nottingham, England, though has lived in the United States for six years and is now an American citizen, took initial control of the final which was being streamed live to a worldwide audience over the internet. He went into a 2-0 lead after winning the first two frames but a run of 32 by Prabhakar helped him to decisively seal the third frame, and he then pinched frame four on the final black ball to level the match at 2-2 going into the mid-session interval. On the resumption of play, Prabhakar never really got back into the match as he lost frame five and appeared fatigued after his earlier long semifinal battle. Isaac then proceeded to win the following two frames, conceding only thirteen points to Prabhakar in the process, to wrap up the match in a convincing 5-2 victory and take his first National Snooker Championship title at his first attempt. Both Isaac and Prabhakar have now gained automatic selection to represent the United States at this year's IBSF World Snooker Championship in Sharm El Sheik, Egypt, from November 4-16. The USSA would like to thank the sponsors of the Championship which include Tweeten Fibre Inc., manufacturers of some of the best known cue tips and chalk brands in snooker, and Saluc, manufacturer of Aramith Tournament Champion Snooker Balls, who have been a long-term supporter of snooker in the United States. The USSA would also like to show their appreciation to the proprietors of the Embassy Billiards Club in hosting their eighth Championship, and yet again providing excellent quality tables to play the Championship on. Also to Daniel Busch, the owner of POV Pool Media, whose work on the live streaming of the Championship for the first time was magnificent in making it a very successful venture. www.snookerusa.com

EFREN "BATA" REYES BACK IN ACTION, FRANCISCO "DJANGO" BUSTAMANTE IS LOOKING FOR ANOTHER TITLE IN WPA WORLD 9-BALLby Marlon Bernardino FILIPINO pool maestro Efren “Bata” Reyes is ready to weave his old black magic while his buddy, Francisco “Django” Bustamante are seeking another title at the World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA) World 9-Ball Championship on June 22 to 29 at the Al Sadd St. Sports Roundabout, Doha, Qatar. The two grizzled veterans of Philippine pool playing under the banner of Puyat Sports will take centerstage anew and carry the country’s colors in one of the biggest billiards tournament of the year. The 57-year-old Angeles City pride Reyes, one of the oldest players in the circuit, is a two-time world champion and is eyeing to become the only Filipino player to win a triple crown. Reyes and compatriot Ronato "Volcano" Alcano have already won the World 8-Ball and World 9-Ball crowns, and one of them has a chance to become the winningest Pinoy in the world pool scene. The 48-year-old Tarlac native Bustamante, on the other hand, won the World 9-Ball crown here in Doha two-years ago to follow the foot-step of Reyes (1999, Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom), Alex "The Lion" Pagulayan (2004, Taipei, Taiwan) and Alcano (2006, Manila, Philippines). "We have a very good chance of winning again the World 9-ball crown," said PH billiards godfather Aristeo "Putch" Puyat, longtime supporter of Reyes, Bustamante and Pagulayan. American Earl "The Pearl" Strickland is the winningest player by winning the World 9-Ball crown thrice (1990 Bergheim, Germany), (1991 Las Vegas, United States) and (2002,Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom ). Another US bet Johnny "The Scorpion" Archer (1992, Taipei, Taiwan), (`1997, Chicago, United States) and Taiwanese Chao Fong-pang (1993, Konigswinter, Germany) and (2000, Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom ) , both won twice. Japanese Yukio Akagariyama toppled Alcano in the last edition here in Doha. Up for grabs in the World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA) and Qatar Billiards & Snooker Federation (QBSF) event is a total cash prize fund of $250,000 with $36,000 going to the champion.

Statement from WPBSA Chairman Jason FergusonFollowing yesterday’s news about Ronnie O’Sullivan, I’d like to clarify the WPBSA's position in relation to the official players' contract and end the misconception that players are being ‘forced’ into playing certain events. The contract is there to protect the players’ income derived from the tour, and the sport as a whole. Once players have signed the contract they are free to choose which events they wish to play in. The contract was sent to the players by World Snooker following an extensive consultation process with the WPBSA in which we engaged our lawyers. It is the WPBSA's duty to ensure that all of the players are treated equally and therefore it is our belief that all players should sign the same contract. We do not believe it would be in the interest of the membership as a whole if one player was allowed a different contract which could give that player additional appearance money The World Snooker Tour is expanding rapidly and consistently on a global basis and it is set to grow further. We are looking for the support of the players as a whole in order to assist this growth. Ronnie O’Sullivan of course is free to sign the contract at any time during the season which would make him eligible to play in World Snooker events, but it is important to note that signing the players' contract does not in itself compel any player to enter any World Snooker tournaments.
