Congratulations must go to James Akenhead, a pool player who isn't too bad at poker either, considering he just finished playing on the final table at the WSOP... YES!!! He's just come second at the World Series of Poker, missing out on the magical bracelet to a lucky river card - read about it on his blog here: www.pokerhitsquad.blogspot.com/James finished 2nd today in the monstrous $1,500nl event with a field of just under 4,000, picking up a tasty $520k. He played some unbelievable poker and if not for one of the cruelest outdraws in WSOP memory on the final hand, he would have picked up a thoroughly deserved gold bracelet. ----------------- Authorised Pro9 forum advertiser/sponsor [ This message was edited by: BigDave on 2008-06-13 11:42 ]

Very impressive. Well done James.

Nice one James ... what a result for a great bloke I wondered why we hadn't seen him playing pool for a while. [ This message was edited by: Simmo on 2008-06-13 12:44 ]

He got paid $42,000 for wearing a sponsor's baseball cap at the final table!!! Seems like dodgy gambling and smokey backroom reputation hasn't hurt poker at all!

520k ? not bad for a game of poker!!!! He used to play a ton of 9-Ball and would often travel across London to play money matches at Rileys Victoria.

I remember him being a decent guy but he was gambling mad. Played a very fast attacking game and was always wanting to play for money. Even in a little comp he would want to do winner takes all, none of this 50 / 50 split it was all or nothing - QUALITY!!

Wow, I don't know James but this is amazing. Not only for a Brit, but a pool-player too!
Nice to see it working out for him.

Even in a little comp he would want to do winner takes all, none of this 50 / 50 split it was all or nothing - QUALITY!! That could describe most of the mob down at victoria! I still remeber 1 guy turning up on sat with £200 (i'll leave his name out) for money matches, played a race to 1 for £50 (that's all they could agree), lost, said double or quits, guy said no, said double or quits on the toss of a coin, guy said ok, lost, then said double or quits again... guy lost his £200 inside 10 mins and left
