There have been some great contributions on here from people who do understand how it is and you can rest assured their contributions will be listened to as always.

I may be out of line posting on here like this but when the line crosses into publicly criticising people who have worked damned hard and taken good measured decisions I will stick up for them.

I'm not talking about me because I'm not on the committee and i just turn up and run the events. But Andy Warden and the team have put an unvelievable amount of work in and his and the committee's planning and reasoning has been very well thought out and measured.

So that post above does make me angry because it's ill judged and without the facts. Thankfully our committee don't fall into that mold.

That's me done on the matter and I'm just glad that people who do know the facts (Mark is clearly one of them) continue to support what is still the best organised national tour in the world, bar none.

Ben I was more talking about 1% of american pool players in the country not on tour. It is prob 2 or 3% though.

TO echo others the work the committee and lee has done is fantastic and i dont doubt any decisions they made. they would all have been the right ones at the time with the best intentions.

Back to the prize money though, i played the first year in 2008 and the tours were in rileys, the entry fees were similar, the tour was over subscribed and the main event was (correct me if im wrong) 1k to the winner and that didnt stop anyone entering.

something similar will get the numbers back i think, stay in hotels, pro, main, challenge. (24 man pro maybe). Id have entry fee about £60 for challenge maybe £100 for pros and decent but not crazy prize money, suits the majority and get the numbers back up and take it from there.

I honestly can't see the entry fees being changed, as like you've said they have been pretty much the same since 2008.
Difference is the conditions of play now compared to back then is 10 fold so as for value for money then nobody can really complain.

Prize money, like it's already been said is only achievable to a small minority and even less so to those who are looking to break even or make a profit form the weekend.

The tour needs the lesser players to make it work and i agree it is tough to accommodate all.

Lets see what changes come in for next year and hope that it attracts more players.

To get value for money the entry fees need to come down imo.

If the w/e costs £300 you will never get value for money for the lesser players. How do you quantify how many games you need to give you "value" upto £300. You cant, there is no amount of pool worth that.

A guarantee of 3 matches is more than enough but not at the cost of £250-£300.

IMO the entry fees are put in place so that the lesser players can play on the best equipment, in the best possible environment and gain the best possible pool experience they can get in the UK!

I was on tour in 2008 and then like you, i saw that it wasn't value for money anymore so i didn't rejoin the following season. However i am older and wiser now and can see that the experience you can gain from entering these events is invaluable.

It all boils down to whether or not you can afford it and whether you are going to part with this money to hopefully become a better player.

The committee will never be able to please everyone with any changes they make, it's just whether they can put something in place so that everyone who decides to join back up is happy.

If your looking for more value for money events as you have stated then have a look at what T9B is going to offer next year as their events are currently less entry fees.

Take this weekend for instance £30 entry and guaranteed 3/4 matches.

I would think they are going to be bigger and better next year but until the info packs are emailed out at the end of the week we won't know just how big!

yes but the key point 'if you can afford it' the majority cant.

thanks but this isnt about me, its about the tour. im not speaking from a personal point of view im talking about the masses and why the numbers have dropped. iv actually played every season bar 2009.

I take it your a spokesperson on behalf of the 'Masses' of pool players who think that it's not good value for money??

Why have you played every season apart from 2009 if you think it's not good value for money then??

In your post further up this page you have stated IMO, yet the last post you have said it isn't about you but your speaking on behalf of the masses?????

Major contradiction!!

Of course it is all in my opinion. in my opinion th emasses dont think it is value for money given the economic climate and other priorites.

Iv played because i love playing pool to the highest standard i can against good competition. most seasons I have been lucky enough to win back at least my entry fees and a couple of seasons all my expenses.

If i hadnt been doing that then no i wouldnt have played. make sense?

Of course it is value for money if you are cashing all the time but th emajority dont. as mentioned previously the tour needs the players who arent winning or it just doesnt work.

Yeah it makes perfect sense.

My advise to you though would be put your own points and views across and then let the 'Masses' speak for themselves with there opinions!

No need to be pedantic about wording.

it is an open forum, i am entitled to share my opinions.

Tbf all i was doing was saying what I thought would help the masses, I didnt say that was their opinion!

talking ABOUT the masses, not FOR them.

come on guys one team, we all want the same thing which is GB9 to run the most brilliant tour which we know they can and will. So lets just suggest ideas and brainwaves and make the rest of europe jealous of our tour. Then they will all enter

I'm happy to wait and see what happens and see if there are any changes for next season. There have been some good ideas on here and i think they need to be sent to all @ GB9 so they can take them on board.

Onwards and Upwards!!

IMO it makes good business sense in wanting bigger and better events, GB9 has done this but apparently that don’t match the market for the UK players as with better equipment and venues comes more cost (entrance fees). The prize money isn’t there to attract numbers across Europe. Therefore are stuck in the middle. It’s a hard act to balance both and whatever decisions are being made over the next several months will not agree to all but if the players opinions are voiced and listened to, then should only disappoint the minority .

Whilst the GB9 committee don't like to comment on here, they all do come on here and I'm sure they'll read this (Riggers of course already has). Been some great ideas on here and they will be taken on board I'm sure. IMO reducing the entry fees isn't the way forward but I'm sure the team will make the correct decision.
