GB9 League Members and Pro9 ers I am sorry to say that despite last minute attempts by myself to avoid it, The GB9 Leagues will cease to run with immediate affect. Since its inception the leagues have faced an uphill struggle in terms of communication and commitment and this has created many a stumbling block. This resulted in the launches being delayed 3 times which ultimately lead to the change of format from team to singles and the removal of the county structure. There is much more to this, but quite frankly, this will not develop American Pool in the UK at all, in fact it could set it back. Therefore out of respect to Pro9 whom Rileys are sponsors of this site, I will not be posting any further information regarding the league here. All further updates will be posted on www.gb9leagues.com and you can contact me via email at bigtone@gb9leagues.infoThe next update at www.gb9leagues.com will be in a few hours time (will include details of refunds etc). Tone

That's a shame Tone, but understandable. I do hope something is developed in future to bridge the gap between the casual amateur player and the GB9 Tour on a national level, especially with the ever-growing competitiveness of the Tour.

It is a crying shame. Just shows that no matter how hard you try, 90% if not more of people who play American Pool do so because they want something to do whilst having a drink.
Until someone grabs American Pool by the scruff of the neck and prize funds increase/formats improve etc the problem will always exist.
Tony, hasn't been without problems but thank you for running this as well as you could. I hope it hasn't made you love the game less...

This U.K is crying out for American Pool halls.....I think that snooker is on such a decline now (especially here in the N.E) that a new, more exciting sport is needed, the last Snooker Pro/Am I attended in Gateshead had 9 players turn up ! yet in it's heyday attracting 60 - 70 every month was no problem.....a lot of 9 ball players are ex-snooker and English Pool players who have got bored and found 9 Ball to be more exciting a mcuh better game altogether. We need investment into the U.K to build American style pool halls up and down the country - not just the odd table in the back of a snooker club or in the recess's of a seaside Amusement Arcade !...we need "out of town" complex's with neon lights, wooden floors, cow burgers and Budwieser on sale, moose heads on the walls,(Bikini clad waitress's - Coyote style !) Then - just then ...we might get some real interest in American Pool ...at National level !....as the achievements of our World Champions etc. are basically going un-noticed in our own backyards ! ----------------- The Agent [ This message was edited by: Agentsoap on 2010-07-03 09:43 ]

Seems to be a contradiction here, one post says that 90% of pool players are just there to amuse themselves while having a drink and another post says that the UK is crying out for more pool halls.!!!! [ This message was edited by: malaguista on 2010-07-04 09:09 ]

need to get them mickey mouse tables out of pubs Yep - I agree - it was a great effort !....but I think the only way forward is big investment in "quality" Pool Clubs.....to be honest the vast majority of people in this country have never even played on American pool tables, simlpy due to the fact that there aren't enough of them about, this isn't helped either by the lack of T.V and Media coverage from worldwide Tournaments. If 9 Ball really took off over here,we would totally dominate the game worldwide within 5 - 10 yrs as we do in Snooker and English pool......I know the GB9 heirachy are winning titles regularly - but how many U.K players make up the "worlds" top 32 in American Pool ?....... ----------------- The Agent

according to official WPA world rankings, 4 GB players in world top 32. 1 more than USA, 2 more than Germany for instance. So pretty good really

agentsoap difficult to compare the 3 snooker and 8ball mainly a uk based game and not too many other countries play english 8ball and snooker.. american pool is so much more global than them 2 diciplines millions more players and at least twice as many countries play american pool.. and the game lot more cut throat and more luck needed because so sooooo many good players compared to snooker and 8ball plus not guaranteed to get out of chair in some matches/tournaments which happens.. nobody will ever dominate pool like a federer/woods/nadal/hendry/taylor/ etc etc.. its impossible yes players will have there good spells like mika did last year and suppose i had mine for 6months and many other players too.. efren reyes and strickland /souquet had there spells but nobody dominated consistantly for year and never will..especially last 5 years as standard gone through the roof and all the countries are catching up and learning.. just too many good players for 9ball will never happen yes we can produce alot more karl boyes/peaches/imrans/grays etc and yes we would get more players at latter stages as we still a small nation regards to numbers compared to germans/philippines/usa/china etc.. but china are the nation to watch for breeding players and philippines.. so the cake is always going to shared out in the future mainly between asian players and european players. and same will happen with snooker in future the asian players will be winning much more too.. 8ball well way that going it be dead in water soon. ----------------- world ranked no 1 and current world 9ball champion Available for exhibitions & coaching www.darrenappleton.com [ This message was edited by: dynamitedaz on 2010-07-04 16:25 ]

yes players will have there good spells like mika did last year and suppose i had mine for 6months and many other players too.. efren reyes and strickland /souquet had there spells but nobody dominated consistantly for year and never will..especially last 5 years as standard gone through the roof and all the countries are catching up and learning.. just too many good players for 9ball will never happen
yes we can produce alot more karl boyes/peaches/imrans/grays etc and yes we would get more players at latter stages as we still a small nation regards to numbers compared to germans/philippines/usa/china etc.. but china are the nation to watch for breeding players and philippines.. so the cake is always going to shared out in the future mainly between asian players and european players.

Good reply Daz ......some sound points there ......just frustrating that our younger generation are still being brought up playing snooker/kiddies pool .....they not getting the chance to realise what a fantastic game American pool can be - 8,9,10Ball,straight,one pocket,...so many variations too !.... ----------------- The Agent

QUOTE !!! i would like to know who won any money????? where did all the prize money go??? can anyone who won any let me know as im trying to make a list Firstly it's the .com domain i've let expire. The main site is still viewable on www.gb9leagues.info Secondly my abscence and quietness was for the benefit of a third party whom i was hoping would see sense and make good their commitments. this hasnt happened so between me and them - all bets are off. when the time comes you'll all get to know exactly whats gone on. finally, it is now definate that the remaining subs and prizemoney will be directly coming from my pocket and as this is the case i will be in touch with those concerned to make the neccersary arrangements with them. I will not be communicating these details on a public forum. The leagues has caused me considerable personal problems in the last few months, which includes loosing my home. But i will stand by my original word, which was to resolve all players monies should there be a problem. As for "compiling a list" Mark, for what purpose? you seem to forget your not privy to the behind the scenes arrangements of the leagues and are not in anyway involved with the workings of the league. So any list you may compile or present will not be taken into consideration. I have the facts and details to make good on my word and will do this when i am ready. I will not be posting on these subjects again on here. The email address still works for private correspondence. bigtone@gb9leagues.info

People are very quick to jump on someone when stuff goes tits up, but it was a good idea well done Tone, not many others on this thread have tried anything. Without people like you 9 ball wont get bigger and better, shame people have let you down on the money side of things!
sorry to hear it caused you problems, Tone you should make a list of people on the bandwagon sure cyclone would love to help

I'd like to know the results of the league standings, even if I don't get any money.
I empathise with Tony's situation and I wish him all the best in sorting it out.
