Should they just give Ronnie the £300,000 and the trophy now, or is there someone who can put him under pressure?

You couldn't make it up!

Ronnie is spotted using blue Masters chalk at the World Snooker, and now I'm having to get a rush order of Blue Master Chalk delivered to cope with demand!

100 centuries in a single season for Robertson - tremendous, will never be beaten.

I think only Robertson can challenge Ronnie this year. I expect he will beat Hawkins, Robertson should come through Selby. If Selby manages to win, I think Ronnie has his number. The best final will be Neil v Ronnie.

Some of the pots Ronnie has been missing have been shockers (by his standards). Recognising that his Murphy was crapping it against him, Ronnie was probably taking his eye off the ball (so to speak).
I'd imagine he will easily come unstuck if he doesn't get into gear earlier against any of the remaining players, they won't bottle it like Murphy. Be interesting to see if Ronnie can find his best form...then there is only one winner, otherwise Hawkins will be no push over.

I thought Judd and Ronnie were using the Green Masters chalk.

It's interesting that players at that level changed something that clearly worked for them (Triangle chalk) and chose to experiment.

anti-snooker from Selby but it worked, ronnie chucked it away, missed black at 10-5, taking the pi$$ as 11-11 on that pink and that really cost him, shoud be fined for that shot !!

Mark Selby proves spirit of a Cliff Thorburn, or a Steve Davis, can still live and thrive on snooker’s greatest stage

Leicester player's triumph was throwback to age when patience, playing safe, stifling your opponent and then delivering slow and deliberate punishment was more effective than rapid-fire potting

Before the final session of last night’s world snooker final, there was a parade of former Crucible champions. Of those past winners, it is fair to say that it was Cliff Thorburn who probably most appreciated the manner of Mark Selby’s subsequent victory over Ronnie O’Sullivan.

This was a throwback to an age when patience, playing safe, stifling your opponent and then delivering slow and deliberate punishment was more effective than rapid-fire potting. Alex Higgins, when he was beaten 18-16 by Thorburn in the 1980 final, christened his opponent ‘The Grinder’ and O’Sullivan must have felt something similar last night.

For Selby to win while playing with so little fluency for so much of the match was a remarkable testimony to his resilience and sheer blooded-minded determination to fulfill a promise that he made 14 years ago to his dying father that he would, one day, become world champion. To his credit, O’Sullivan could admire the manner of Selby’s victory. “He’s tough,” he repeatedly said after the match.

If there is a small chink to be found in O’Sullivan’s armour it is against a player of Selby’s style. Over a long match, the cumulative impact of so many scrappy frames, so few clear chances and such disciplined safety play can eventually disrupt his rhythm. It happened also at The Crucible in 2005 against Peter Ebdon and the following year against Graeme Dott.

The difference this time was that O’Sullivan never faltered in his mental focus and, but for a crucial miss here or there, might still actually have won this war of attrition himself.

Was it really that bad?
