Just heard barry hearn on radio stating that one change he is proposing to make for 2013 world championships is that all players are to compete from round 1 ie 128 players with top 64 seeded which will be like wimbledon. I think this is a great idea but can't see the top players being happy as they will not be guaranteed the crucible spot. His arguement is that if u are good enough you will qualify. Talk about shaking up snooker.

So long as R1 and R2 were both best of 19 (just as the 'new' R3 currently is), then this is a terrific idea. Brings fresh faces in who people will want to see at other events afterwards. Imagine a complete unknown whizzkid making it through to a Crucible semi-final and the kind of support they'd get.

That was one thing that Barry said would not change, the format would stay as it is with ALL rounds being best of 19 up to the "nd rnd of the final stage as Crucible. I can just imagine some players not liking this as they feel they "DESERVE" to be in latter stages. Will be interesting to see how this develops over the coming months and to see reactions from layers such as Allen etc. If they use a similar seeding to Wimbledon then top 16 would not meet a 16-32 player until the final stages and then top 16 play each other in 2nd round of final stages so as Mr Hearn says if your good enough you will qualify and if not tough, you don't deserve it. Over best of 19 normally better player (better player on day) will win through anyway.

If you're a professional you're a quality player and should handle the pressure better in earlier stages. The sport has to evolve with the times.

I think top players will love it cause the prize fund is going from 270k to 1 million for winner
