After 30 years as a pro, my hero and good mate Jimmy White wins the inaugral World seniors Championship at the Cedar Court Hotel in Bradford. Over 50 players began in the event. 10 made it to the TV stages. Jimmy beat 1980 World Champion Cliff Thorburn 2-0 in his quarter-final, followed by John Parrott 3-2 in the semi from 2-0 down and finally 6 times World Champion Steve Davis in the final 4-1. I was in Bradford all weekend and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed the event, it was made sweeter with Jimmys win though. It will be broadcast on Sky Sports over Christmas (watch out for Jimmys commentating debut in the first semi-final). Joe Johnson and Dave Shipley put on a great event, although it was ran by World Snooker and the Cedar Court Hotel made us all welcome. I've just wrote a post on my blog about the weekend http://www.pro9.co.uk/html/matt.phpi'm sure you'll all join me on congratulating Jimmy on a World title at last ----------------- Matt Lester www.matthew-lester.com

Still love Jimmy. Finally a snooker world champion! I would love to know what Jimmy thought of winning. Did it ease the pain of being runner up 6 times?? I still remember those terrible memories, (one-thousand-yard-stare and uncontrollable shaking)....... I was there, watching it all through the gaps in my fingers, the agony and despair! Jimmy pot this black and you've won......Nooooooooooooo! [ This message was edited by: expertfluke on 2010-12-14 22:20 ]

Wether or not you believe that is possible, if it did happen he would be the only player to win the World amateur, World Doubles, World team, World seniors and World Championship. ----------------- Matt Lester www.matthew-lester.com

Thanks for the insight matt. I also enjoyed reading your blog. Some good stuff on there. Especially the rare video of Jimmy beating Hendry and all the stats.

Regrettably there's more chance of me winning the US Open than Jimmy winning the world championship at his age.

Riggers, your mate Darren won the US Open, so maybe you can win it too. Then Jimmy WILL become world champion!!
Maybe?...
