I've spoken to him a couple of times in Sheffield and he's a really nice bloke. He's new to the job and when he got it it was a big break for him having been in the right place at the right time. Now he's trying his best to put his mark on the job like Alan Hughes did so well. I say give him a break and let him have his chance. Unless of course you think you could do better? It's easy to criticise but not so easy to do. [ This message was edited by: Riggers on 2009-04-27 20:47 ]

He's had his chance as far as I'm concerned and he's rubbish. And as far as saying to people, could you do any better, I think there are plenty of professional announcers out there who could. Owe, and I couldn't care less if he's a nice bloke. Alastair Darling is a nice bloke but look what he and his friends are doing to our economy.

I think Alan Hughes is a tough act to follow. Agree that John McDonald would be awesome and also agree Rob Walker can be a bit annoying but he's a likeable guy and I think people will warm to him eventually.

I'll be honest i've never had a problem with him and as for the comment regarding the names he gives players - "Mark (The Royal) King - do you think he comes up with them by himself??
I doubt it, i expect there are a few people involved with that and the player would ultimately get the final say.
Calling him a t**t is quite harsh too. There are bound to be people who like him and those who don't. At the end of the day he gets a one minute slot before the matches start so it's not like he's on tv for hours on end!!!!

There are those out there who could do better i'm sure but again they'll have people criticising them too. It'sa fickle world we live in unfortunately.

I have to admit that I do not like the "boys on the baize" line - it REALLY makes me cringe but other than that one piece of criticism, I think he's doing a good job. As Riggers said above, Alan Hughes is a really tough act to follow but he's getting there. Best wishes thecardman

I've ben going to the Crucible every year for the past 13 years and I have to say as a "warm up man" before the tv start filming Rob Walker is great, I can see how he can be annoying but I don't mind him.

Lets get the boys on the baize, so cheesey its brilliant. But I dont care about the nicknames or who introduces the players, its all about the game. The only thing that annoys me is Willie Thorne.

Can't stand John Virgo.
'After potting this red, he'll be looking to get on a colour' or 'where's the white going? where's it GOING, WHERE'S IT GOING'.

'where's the white going? where's it GOING, WHERE'S IT GOING'. ....cracked me up , Virgo to a T. But I once met JV , played him and had a great night in his company. I think its real easy to misjudge people, classic example, I used to like Alex Higgins til I met him. [ This message was edited by: InsideEnglish on 2009-05-02 19:27 ]
