I am with you although I have done it once in Asia.I am not a fan of such a thing but it is really hard to run out a rack of 9 ball on british pool tables.The table pockets are tight.You will have to have straight in shots all the time to run out.Can't cheat the pockets to gain position.

In principal there is nothing wrong with this but believe me 9 ball on an "English" pool table is much more difficult than on a conventional "American" table.
We ran a summer league last year and it was very rare to see a run out.

Another bizzarre thing I saw at my local was snooker balls on a 9ft American table.
Needless to say it was fairly easy to get a maximum!
