I have recently bought a Z2 shaft which is really nice and had a meduim Moori tip fitted. I thought most players use this tip so was looking forward to using it. However, I feel the the tip has no feel whatsoever and certainly no 'bite'. I have previously used an elkmaster tip on a 314 and was wondering if anyone has got any ideas on the best tip to put on. Cheers

It's all about personal preference as to which tip to use and then it's important how you care for it to keep it in shape. By the sounds of it you are more used to a softer tip so I would try either Moori soft (what I use) or a Tiger Sniper. If you search the site you'll find some threads that have discussed this in detail before. I find I have to put more effort into caring for my american pool cue tip than I ever did with english pool or snooker. Particularly with regards to shape and mushrooming - I burnish the tip once every few weeks. [ This message was edited by: Riggers on 2007-03-30 11:19 ]

Get a sniper and after 1 proper installation you will never get a mushroom and it grips the ball real well but feels more like a moori medium ----------------- [ This message was edited by: PC on 2007-03-30 17:56 ]

PC is right..........I use a Tiger Sniper, has a softness of an elk-master but the touch and feel of a moori medium..........in my opinion the best tip out there

Just be careful with the burnishing as with any layered tip too much heat can cause the layers to delaminate! When i fit a tip now i think "well i'm gonna use this tip a while so whats half an hour getting it on and just right" I spend about this time just trimming and shaping the tip to get a perfect fit. I normally use superglue gel to install and hold presure on the tip for about 5mins (just watch tv lol) then leave it over night before trying to shape it. ----------------- [ This message was edited by: PC on 2007-03-30 19:18 ]

Smellycat - I agreed Moori are the best but I think some folk put them on and don't like them because they don't give them time to work in. Snipers are good but not for me, I think they bed in quicker as well.
I feel I need a good 5-10 hours on a Moori before it starts to feel right. After that they last for ages and play more consistant - I think.

is there such a thing as the best?, i think its down to how we each hit the ball, especially when we try something new, also if we pay a lot for something we tend to justify our outlay if were to be honest

depends on the cue u have really - what feels good on the end of my cue might feel trash on yours.
on my last 314 shaft just a boring old le-pro felt great.
got a new 314 shaft (should be nigh on identical to my last shaft in theory) and absolutely must have a moori on it.
experiment a bit cos there's no point in spending $100's and $100's on a cue only to ruin it by having a tip you don't like.
