Has anyone here heard of a 9 ball player based in the Coventry area going by the nickname of ‘Jesus’? Saw him playing a tournament in Coventry the other week and he was pulling shots out of his fool…some incredible performances, and the best massey shot I’ve seen in the game. But in the same tournament he also sliced the friggin white ball direct into the pocket off the break off (twice) so he was either having a laugh or is a total genius. I couldn’t work out which. Anyone here know of him? I think he used to be ranked on the pro tour. Any information on the background of this player gratefully received

Jesus is currently ranked 53rd on the BPPPA (after the Manchester II open i think. Real name Pete Blanchard.
He taught me everything i know about slicing the cue ball in on the break lol

Joking aside, slicing the cue ball in off the break could be the work of a total genius. It takes skill and an awful amount of ability to make that shot look faked, when in actual fact he just wants to hand over the break off to his opponent...

Thanks for the info SkyBlueJim. Is Pete Blanchard aka Jesus entering the Euro open? I think he'd have a good chance.

Sponsor him? I'll become his friggin manager. Sure, he needs to sharpen up his open play potting abit but he knows his angles like no other player I've seen. I'll take him to Manila with me in Nov and between us we'll return with the top prize. It will be like Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman in Rainman taking on the casinos. He is Rainman

To be the best you gotta believe you’re the best. That’s where Jesus is currently failing, too negative. Belief is a powerful thing, cnce he gets it, then who knows.
Me on the other hand, I believe I am the best but I am not yet the best…
Yet being the operative word.
My goal is to win a major within 3 years and if I haven’t done that then I’ve failed and will quit the sport. Nothing lost nothing gained, no questions asked.
At the moment I still need to perfect my break off as it reacts differently on different tables. There have been occasions where the cue ball has flown off the table or scratched but once its perfected these pros…well, they’re all for it. I’ve not seen my break off technique used anywhere else.
Mentioning no names, I lost to a top 7 player in a big tournament recently in a game I should have and would have won if it hadn’t of been for him talking me out of it. You gotta be very wary of sportsmanship in this game and now I have learnt never to open my mouth during a match and fully concentrate on the balls and play the table…block everything else out. Who knows I might even bring a walkman next time. I will have my revenge on him you can be sure, he’s insignificant…I want the big guns, for instance I’d love to play Peachy…or that other one, used to play snooker…

Sorry is this a joke??? when i last saw Pete play he was below average i beat him 9-2 in Nottingham and he fluked one of those 2...if you think pete is a good player you haven't seen anythng yet, come to next BPPPA event or Empire pool tour and you'll see some players who would blow pete out of the water...that is unless he has practised 7 hours a day everyday since i last played him coz then he couldn't pot 9 balls in a row...no disrespect to pete is a top bolke but a better dart player than at pool

Entered a couple of BPPA events, nothing outside of the top 5 that's scary. I'll give you your due though, the top 5 were awesome! Jesus must have been practising solid for that tournament then...either that or was on performance enhancing drugs. (which judging by our breif chats was quite possible)

Yeah, there’s a big divide between the top 4 or 5 and the rest of the field. The rest of the field are all good, but beatable. Bear in mind a majority are there because they’re prepared to travel and have the money to. There are far better club players out there and I dare say down your club in Harrow. Anyway, the break off technique of mine is something that is yet to be perfected and until then shall remain a secret. It’s starting to come good, but I never practice…infact I have only played this sport 14 times. Basically speaking though, the way I break off gives me more chances of kicking in the 9. I once had 3 golden breaks in a row on a tapped table. I believe I’ve not seen anything quite like it (or as bad) in the game.
Back to my original thread title anyway, anymore info on Jesus please? Has he won majors?

there have been threads on Az and on here i think whre someone had 6 goldens in a row. Trying to kick the 9 off the break is low percentage shot you are better off trying to get 2 or 3 balls down hold the white near middle of table and running out, and its no secret about kicking it off side rail back into 9 it's just that hardly anybody will try to do it coz you will make it 1 out 10. an no he hasn't won majors, is this the same Jesus that we all know on the tour coz the way you speak about him it's like you think he'll be next world champ.

of course the interesting thing about jesus is that he has the identical approach to 9-ball that earl strickland uses. he has realised that 90% of the sport is about what you do around and about the table during play. he knows that what happens on the table is irrelivant and by manipulating his opponent almost telepathically, he can achieve both inner enlightenment and unbelievable respect from ones opponent. i for one consider him up there, his current ranking is not showing his true colours as his van keeps blowing up on the way to every friggin ranking event.

I dunno RACKRUNNER, like I say some of the shots this fella Jesus was pulling out were unbelievable if i hadn't seen them with my own eyes...but like I say he also sliced the white into the middle bag off the break twice so I dunno whether I was witnessing a genius at work or what...he certainly impressed in this tournament though and I fancy him for honours if he enters some of the Euro events.

Haha Thos comments about the top 4 or 5 are hilarious. So taking the top 5 on the EPT for instance: Peach, Gray, Morris, Raybone, Appleton, yes I grant you they are class! Now to take the players outside this that you don't think are in this same league... Boyes, Facquet, Holtz, Davies, Uzzell, Hill, McKenna, Majid, Hundal, Drago.... Yes very average (though obviously not in Pete Blanchard's league) ! Welcome to Pro9 thecure_figurehead, keep taking the pills and hopefully after a few more months you'll start talking some sense. (No offence to Pete BTW, he's a top geezer)

That’s an interesting viewpoint, the much revered Earl Strickland approach. Strickland, although a great player is a master of sportsmanship which I think verges on cheating at times. While I don’t think Jesus is quite in the same league (in terms of mind games) he certainly has a flair and dare I say arrogance about him which could possibly intimidate his opponent and give a slight advantage even before a ball is hit. But as previously said, his open play potting and running out of racks needs some work or he could never be considered a serious contender for major titles or top 20 ranking.
