I'd have like to have done a poll on this but the forum software doesn't seem to support it.

Since I'm fairly new to the game I'm interested in what tips people prefer and why. I tried a Le Pro and found it way too hard and wouldn't take chalk well. Now I have a triangle and that seems much softer giving me more feel and responsiveness. I've never used a Moori so I'll probably give one a try.

I'm also interested in how people prefer to shape their tips. Personally I like a domed tip with some depth to it but I know that some people prefer to go for something very flat and shallow so they can 'feel' the cue better. That never worked for me.

I know that at the end of the day there isn't a right or wrong answer and it's about what works for you but it will be interesting to hear everyone's views.

I changed my tip to a moori soft and found it to control my shots a lot better than a hard tip.

I use a sniper tip - it's like a layered version of an elkmaster.
Not too hard and not too soft, thay also last ages

I've tried a Moori medium but didn't like it too much. I then tried a talisman WB medium which I liked a lot.

I'm now trying a triangle tip like Riggers as I use these for 8 ball and love them. They are quite hard and need to be scruffed up with sand paper regularly but I just seem to get me 'feel' from it.

I'll let you know more once it's been on there for a while.

No comment Davy....
I did get a nose bleed after getting so far in a SAPPA tournament though... :-o

Although a moori gives me more control in certain aspects of my game, it still doesnt cure my "9-ball-itis"

:-D

You are not using your preferred tip so you can save £2.50?

---snip---

Some interesting polls have been conducted on this very subject recently on www.pro9.co.uk - here are some related polls:

  • Which tip are you currently using?

  • How long does your cue tip last?

  • Master Chalk obviously, but which colour is best?

See the full list of polls here: Pro9 Poll Booth

Thanks Admin. Before posting I did search the forums for 'tip' as I thought the subject must've already been raised but the search didn't turn up the stuff you linked to.

Interesting stuff. Since posting I've played a little with a Moori medium and still found it quite hard. I think I'll stick with triangle for now.
