I was saddened to read the news of Doug Gordon's passing. Big Dave's wonderful tribute on the front page tells some great stories about who he was. So, let's hear your stories about Doug. I only met Doug Gordon a few times but he was always a lovely person who didn't forget who you were. It was through Doug that I first met Big Dave - at the 2000 World Championships in Cardiff - who, along with Chris "Buckster" Buckmaster, had been asked by Doug to look after the list of names of spectators wanting to play a rack against one of the big guns. I got to play a rack against (amongst others) Efren (the first time I'd seen a proper Sneaky Pete in real life - took me 10 minutes to find the join!), Oliver Ortmann and Ralf Souquet (we spent the game chatting about his recent US Open 14.1 win). I was there again in 2001 and then 2003. When I arrived for the first time for the 2003 event (I arrived a couple of days after the tournament started), I walked into the arena and bumped into Doug almost right away. After greetings and how are yous, Doug asked "have you got your cards with you?" I had not seen a ball being struck in the tournament yet but I told him that I did (I always do!). With that, he said "come over here" and he introduced me to a table full of players and asked me to do a few minutes for them. Scary but good fun. For those who have been part of this site/community for a while, what are your memories of Doug? Rest well, Sir, and thank you for everything. Best wishes Peter - thecardman :-( ----------------- The Cardman's Blog

"Hi Big Dave,
thank you for letting me know.
It's very sad to hear that he passed away.
I haven't met him for a long time, but I still remember him as a funny
person who was always up for a joke.
I don't think pool in the UK would have become without him what it is today.
I wish his family a lot of strength during this difficult time.
Friendly wishes
Oliver"
