Is there a standardised programme/accreditation for refereeing American pool in the UK, or elsewhere for that matter? Often wondered.

This is a good question that hasn't been addressed recently, so I've contacted David Morris at the EPBF and he said, "With the referee question, I sent your mail to our head referee and he will either register and reply or contact you directly with his reply, his name is Miha Vovko." So one way or another, we will see an answer here shortly. ----------------- Authorised Pro9 forum advertiser/sponsor

Thanks Dave, really appreciate that. I note that CSI run a programme in the US but not sure how recognised that is.

Here's the official reply courtesy of the EPBF's Referee Director, Miha Vovko... Dear Fulcrum:
Thank you for your question.
The governing organization for pool in the UK, including the matters of refereeing at the national level, is the British Pool Federation.
It is a member of EPBF (European Pocket Billiard Federation) — European governing body for pool responsible for all matters of international refereeing. EPBF in turn is a member of WPA (World Pool-Billiard Association) — the association that is responsible for pool worldwide and is a member of WCBS (World Confederation of Billiard Sports) that represents pool, snooker and carom with the International Olympic Committee.
EPBF regularly organizes referee training and certification events at the international level, and the information about these is circulated among all EPBF members including the British Pool Federation.
CueSports International is a private organizer of what they call USA Pool Leagues or BCAPL. Despite the somewhat confusing name, BCAPL pool leagues have no relation to BCA (the North American governing body for pool) and respectively WPA, nor are endorsed by them. These leagues use unofficial rules privately developed by CueSports International that differ significantly from WPA World Standardized Rules and are not recognized by any governing body of pool sport.
Therefore, any tournaments, rules, rule interpretations, referee instructions or referee certifications held by CueSports International or BCAPL should be understood as private initiatives that are unrelated to the sport of pool as recognized by the International Olympic Committee through the chain of governing bodies described above.
If you are interested in becoming a pool referee, please contact the British Pool Federation or EBPF, and we'd be excited to tell you about our training and certification courses!
Best regards
Miha Vovko

Thanks Tony, I'm not necessarily thinking of doing a training course myself but was interested in the governance structure. Thanks again in any case.
