Why Is It So Difficult? |

I have been thinking about making some modifications to the ferrule on my break cue by changing it to phenolic but here's the problem I & I suspect many others in the UK pool scene are having & that is finding cue maintenance professionals.
It has occurred to me that in the US they can find them very easy if they need a tip replaced or want some other cosmetic change to their cues which would maybe require a lathe to do, whereas here in the UK tip replacement is easy enough to do by players themselves but if you want anything more complicated done such as changing the wrap, change the ferrule if it gets damaged or maybe make weight changes they can't be found.
The only cue repairmen in the UK I can find are repairmen who work on snooker cues, why can't US pool cue repairmen be found in the UK, I mean EVERYTHING is geared towards the snooker or English pool community & us American pool players either have to do all the repairs ourselves or send our cues overseas for anything elaborate.
Sorry for the long post/rant but this situation in the UK 9 ball scene needs to change.

Great post 9 ball. Seems like US pool players are hard done by, surely someone on here knows someone who can do modifications/repairs. I once had a new ferrule put on my predator z2 shaft by John Parris, he done a great job but looked shocked when I turned up with it!

There's only one exclusively American Pool Cue cuesmith I trust in the UK... He gets all the recommendations I give out to people who ask, plus all the jobs that come in from The Pro Shop too! He can do tips, rewraps, and has even made cues and jump sticks too. Despite this, the US Pool market in the UK is still very modest, and this is probably why he feels it is unnecessary/not cost effective to advertise here. Unless you are in his local catchment area (and I'm guessing from your forum flag that you're not) then you will still need to post your spare shaft to him and wait for it by return. Unless American Pool becomes as popular as Smart Phones, it's unlikely that you'll ever see a specialist in every city in the country - it's still not even worthwhile to travel to tournaments with a lathe here yet. I won't be posting his details here, as if I permitted that, I'd never sell any advertising at all, but send me a PM and I'll pass on his details. ----------------- Authorised Pro9 forum advertiser/sponsor [ This message was edited by: BigDave on 2014-10-05 08:55 ]
