Topic: Pool clubs in Telford

So, having not played pool since November last year, I decided it was time to get back to it. Having noticed that Rileys had upped their prices to roughly £10 ph I looked elsewhere and found a club in the town of Oaken Gates, approx 3 miles from the Telford hotel venue of the GB9, called the Eden centre. Long story short, I won't bother again. The place is great for snooker and marbles but the BCE American pool tables (all 4 of them) all looked in need of a bit of tlc. The table I played on had more holes, in the cloth, than a tea bag and the pockets regurgitated anything played down the rail at anything over medium pace. The side I break from was also severely hampered by a booth and step. With the empty space available I've no idea why the table was this close to a drinks table fixed to the floor. I ended up playing 14.1 just to minimise the chances of playing from that corner. On the plus side it was only £4.50ph and it killed 2 hours.
So just a warning to any GB9ers who are looking for somewhere to practice the next time the tour stops at Telford. Maybe I've been spoilt by playing at nice clubs like St Albans Hurricane Rooms and Rileys Solihull & Liverpool. Hopefully I haven't broken any forum rules with my unkind review but I think it's best that folk know that this place isn't exactly the Rack n Roll.

I think if you book on line befor you go it works out alot cheaper in the Riley clubs

I know that used to be the case but I registered my membership card online last week and didn't see any discounted rates during the daytime hours. I'll try the rileys online thing next time I play but it looks like the contrasting cushion/cloth combo of Womborne Pool bar from now on.
