All players will be taking their break shot within a marked area measuring 4.25 inches (11cm) and extending from the centre of head string to the short rail. The balls will be racked with the 9 ball on the spot and players will be asked to do their best. Anyone have an opinion on how this new rule will affect the teams? Will the Europeans be disadvantaged? [ This message was edited by: ct on 2013-10-17 14:29 ]

New break rules eh - I guess as team USA havnt won the Mosconi Cup for a while, maybe they thought the new rules would give them a slight edge. I cant see Team Europe being phased by this change at all.

Have to agree, I feel this is done to 'help' the Americans slightly.

Is that a glorified explanation of the "Box break" lol. Makes no difference really, theyll all practice and you can still make the wing ball. Plus, the europeans use the box break on the Eurotour i think...

With no 3 point rule this is just going to encourage softer cut breaks

It is a very narrow break box and will mean players just hitting the pack as hard as possible whilst trying to park the white in the centre. Good call. Will prob favour USA though, especially Archer and SVB. ----------------- Andy Warden, GB9 - Authorised Pro9 forum advertiser/sponsor √ [ This message was edited by: cueman on 2013-10-18 00:10 ]

Nope - posted on here a few times about 6-7 years ago, but the forums seems to have forgotten. It's certainly been a good five years I'd have thought though! Thanks

I liked the new break rule personally, back to the days of hit them hard and hope for a ball. Would be interested to see if the GB9ball tour might inherit it too. What do other players think?

Arfan, I liked the rule but didn't like how the players were going after the 9. I thought as the tournament progressed they might work on a way to get a reliable ball somehow. Perhaps a slightly larger break box would be fun, even just for one tournament.

all tournaments should change to this break rule but would make it so if the 9 goes in its just counted as a ball pocketed and re spotted and breaker carries on his innings

There's no fun in that. I would only do that rule in a hill-hill situation. But golden breaks are part of the fun.

I for one, would like to see this break rule implemented with golden break counting.
