Apart from the price, what's the difference between the Super Aramith Pro Cup (TV) balls and other balls?I was asked this today, and although I know this isn't a complete explanation, this was my answer - please feel free to add your views and share your knowledge too..."Basically, the Super Aramith Pro Cup Balls are the nuts!
With care, these balls will last you a lifetime - they'll keep their weight and shape and with care they will remain shiny, roll straighter, and perform consistently for an indefinite time. Whether they are TV Colour with the pink 4 and coffee coloured 7 ball, or with the standard colour balls - Super Aramith Pro Cup are the ones you want to buy. They have a harder and longer baked exterior shell which reduces wear and tear and extends the life of both the ball, and incidentally, the life of the cloth being used too.
Lesser quality balls, even the cheaper Aramith Balls you have indicated will wear down surprisingly fast, becoming dull, and losing weight and roundness, all causing inconsistent play.
I have very accurately weighed many sets of balls in different states of "newness" from brand new balls to very well worn balls, and without exception, Super Aramith Pro Cup Balls remain the most consistent - along with Brunswick Centennial Balls (which I believe were made by Saluc too).
All decent balls start out at exactly 6oz in weight - but I have seen some well used balls that have worn down and lost over half an ounce in weight - and the WPA are well aware of this as they actually state that balls acceptable for WPA sanctioned tournaments are permitted to be between 5.5oz and 6.oz - incredible really!
Lighter, worn cue balls can be screwed back (drawn) more easily, and can be fun, but they are not good for your practice.
Definitely do not skimp on balls is my advice. "
