What do people think is perfect for somebody wanting to play all of the disciplines well on a 9 x 4.5ft Brunswick Metro table? I took measurements and the table I'm playing on has 5 1/4" corners and 5 1/2" middles. The corners have a 1 1/2" shelf and the middles don't have any! I know that these are too big but I don't want to go so small that certain games just aren't fun to play. What's the standard that the top pro players expect in 2013?

4.5" is standard for most tournament tables but for a practise table it really depends on the cloth, if it is only going to be you playing on the table with regular new cloth (your own table??) then I would go down to 4.25 as new cloth makes them feel huge, if it's a club table that will be used regularly then 4.5 will be good as the cloth will get worn quickly and the bags will play tighter.
