Morning/Afternoon/Evening all,
Here at mickeys we are pleased to say that we are in the process of organizing a series of pool events for the coming year.
Its been quite sometime since we have staged an event, and we are now looking to recapture some of the magic which made are first tour a big success - a full field, a really open competition an a fun enjoyable day.
Since our tournament debut we did try a couple of new ideas which, im sure you'll agree, did not hit the heights of our original tour.
What we're looking for now is the input of YOU, the players. What format of event would you like to play in?
At this moment we are considering a series of 8-ball events, which we beleive is the biggest rising cue sport right now, bringing cueists from differnet disciplines together. The EPT has done an excellent job of bringing a high standard of 8 ball to the UK, and we, in no way, intend to compete directly with them,in fact i am trying to get hold of daryl to explain are thoughts. What we would like to offer the players is the chance to experience playing in an 8-ball tournament for an affordable fee competing for a healthy prize fund.
Again, we are looking for YOUR input. Would you, the players, be interested in playing such a series of events? Any suggestions on format - sinlge/double elimination, saturday or sunday etc. will be greatly recieved and taken into consideration.
Mickey Flynns American Pool
To test the water we are holding an 8-ball event on sunday 3rd of december, the format as follows:
entry fee £25 limited to 64 players 1st/2nd round first to 7-alternate break last 16 first to 8-alternate break last 8 first to 8-alternate break semi-finals first to 8-alternate break final first to 10-winner break first round losers plate competition

The alternate break option seems to be taking over pool, so I guess that is the probable choice for most players. Single elim seems good aswell. I do like the introduction of set match times that the EPT have brought in (to the UK), maybe that could be encorporated into the tournament. The major gripe in the past has been when the tournament has started, with set match times and draws being done a few days before (like the EPT), it should mean everything starts on time. For me, I would just like to play more pool. I know a lot of players love Mickeys and would jump at the chance to play a Tour there again. Good luck! ----------------- Chris @ Pro9[ This message was edited by: Buckster_uk on 2006-10-31 17:24 ]

This is great news Richard.
I know I asked u a while back if Micky Flynns will be holding any pool events soon as there havent been any in a while.
This will be great to see Micky Flynns returning back to the UK Pool scene.... Micky Flynns is a great place, loads people love it there, come on everybody get involved or you dont know what you missing.
Making it 8ball sounds a good idea for a change.

thanks

bucky the start times is the one thing we will address because if that is not correct then you start the day off in a bad way

andystoke thanx for your question, on the 3rd december there is likely that the club will guaruntee a few quid therefore if we get a full feild the winner will collect around £800 and the money will be paid down to the last 16 and there will be a plate comp for first match losers worth £100 [ This message was edited by: indiana on 2006-11-02 15:42 ]

Sounds great and I'd love to come but Cambridge is 130 miles and around 2 1/4 hours for me so I'll have to look carefully at the detail. I guess if it's a Sunday tournament I could come down Saturday afternoon at a leisurely pace and enjoy a night in Cambridge.

Riggers your more than welcome mate, im not sure if you have been down to mickeys b4, if you have then you will know that it has a unique atmosphere, when we held our fist tour every tournament was special and thats what we want to recapture, we want players to enjoy their pool aswell as having a good day out. Which i beleive does not always happen, ie players sometimes are to bothered about ranking points or how they played and they forget why they are holding a cue in the first place, we want players to play in a competition for an affordable fee so they can forget about any pressure that they might otherwise feel. And the best thing is our tournaments will not get in the way of any others.

Richard only a few questions:
1) Are the tables going to be tapped?
2) House balls or TV balls?
3) Why winner breaks in the final - someone could lose the final having only hit the lag and then sit down.

Sounds good to me. Anyone who has not been to Mickey's do not know what they are missing. It is a great club and tournaments there have always beeen very good. I can't wait for the competitions, but I just hope they do not still serve Bud on tap!!

Got to agree Tony, Mickey Flynns is a great club, nice tables, friendly staff. Dave I've also got to agree with you on no 3 on your post, the final should be alternate break, and tapped tables are a must, and racking for each other as well would be a good idea to bring in like they have on the BPPPA and EPT Hopefully I'll be playing in the events. ----------------- Justin On the comeback trail!
