With the directors permission of course, I wanted to see what the interest would be on running a Calcutta auction bet for GB9. Spice it up abit and it's good clean fun! Plus I need to get my head around it as its pretty big in the states. Nearly every tournament I've read about has these types of action going on.

Rules of Calcutta

Tournament lists all players competing in the tournament. Bidding starts on each player in the tournament by other players and spectators. The highest bidder wins the player and pays their bid to the Calcutta. The players bid on also have the opportunity to purchase half of their own Calcutta by paying the winning bidder half of the bid. When all bidding completes, the tournament begins.

Winning the Calcutta

The billiards competitors play the tournament. When the tournament ends, whoever won the bid on the tournament champion wins a percentage of the betting pool. If the player bought half his rights prior to the start of the tournament, the prize winnings split between the player and the bidder.

May also give more of an incentive for players to stay and watch the later games on the sunday?

Do a seperate calcutta for each tournament, or main only?

Could do a challenge and main? Have to agree it would give a bit more buzz and like you say push for more support than they would normally receive

Just need permission from andy or lee to run it then we can start the bidding online here if they can provide a list of all runners who've entered.

We're good to go mate but some good points raised from riggers. We need to use ranking list and then if a player doesn't turn up and someone had bid on them we can do a straight refund. I'll do a list a bit later and will need some help regarding player percentages from you. what you reckon tournamemt winner takes all or base it on wins? Ie 6 rounds wins =%?

You want to do it on here before? I was thinking more get a mic and do an auction at about 4 on the Friday? All depends how long its gonna take really!

I reckon do winning players bidder takes X% of pot, runner up X%, semis X% percent. Maybe even quarters but it depends how high the bidding goes!
