It's really crazy how much pool is on TV in Taiwan - here's a video of Yu Ram Cha, and for the first three minutes she's doing nothing but walking around eating an ice cream for goodness sakes! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKjXCPX-M0EAt around 3:20 she answers interview questions in English. We need to build our pool champions into media superstars like this... That's the secret formula to attracting bigger and better sponsors - the players are the product! There are a lot of sports a lot less entertaining than pool on main tv but the public are emotionally involved with the players and therefore has a lot of intrest the problem for us is a bit of chicken and egg situation

Yes, darts is much less entertaining, and was virtually dead, media-wise... How did they pull that game out of the "doldrums"?

I can watch most of those sports, F1 is very dramatic and great for TV with all the great looking cars, and always the chance of some exciting action, even if the race is effectively a procession after the first lap. Darts I think should be really boring to watch, but they seem to have managed to gather a decent fan base, and I think that's what pool deserves, but currently lacks? How do we go about building our sports brand to a larger fan base, so that the broadcasters are willing to accept more programming, which in turn attracts more sponsors??? Darts has done this in a very short period of time - how did they do that? [ This message was edited by: BigDave on 2011-08-02 16:15 ]

Tut tut Dave, thats just your opinion, Darts is far more interesting to watch than pool in some peoples opinion, including me. If you wanna mention boring sports, you gotta mention bowls or cricket, but once again, just my opinion. And as for F1, cars going round and round and round and round, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

Maybe they should hold a major tournament in a shopping mall just off the M25. The players would enter the arena in an elevator. They could get Steve Davis and Earl Strickland to play and Sky Sports could televise it. Can't believe it's never been done before...

The debate about boring sports and if pool is one of them is irrelevant imho, simply because this is just a personal preference. In a 9 ball forum people will always argue that pool is far more interesting but that's not the opinion of the general public.
In my opinion it's all about who is managing pool. Back in the days, where the world championship was held in Cardiff, there was proper tv coverage and the game was becoming more popular. Nowadays where the world events are held in the middle of the desert and with no tv coverage you can't expect the game to be promoted appropriately. imho, something has gone seriously wrong there ...
