Hi folks.

Well done to Davy (destroyer) Jack for winning the Newry tournament on the Irish tour at the weekend.
A total of 13 Scots descended on Irish soil for a fantastic weekend.

This the second time Davy has won on the other side of the water & is proving a happy stomping ground for him.

Davy (ranked number 5 in Scotland) played some brilliant pool and defeated players like Paddy Mclaughlin (Irish no2), Sam Gibson (no 8) & Ireland's number 1 ranked player Paul Bonner in the final.
To make a great weekend extra sweet for Davy, he also finished as a semi finalist in the 8 ball event.

A big thanks go to Ronnie Boyle (tournament organiser) and Theresa and Jim of the lovely TJ's club in Newry.
(First time I've played on a table with black cloth.....)

Davy's win coupled with Jayson Shaw's excellent qualification into the IPT Reno event finished off a great weekend for Scottish pool.

Well done guys!
:-D

Ahhh congrats to Davey... I always look forward to Ronnie's reports and marvel at how many Scots make the journey... I wish a few more English players would go too.

Sounds like a good weekend to me. I'm sure I'll go to one soon. Are they Sat & Sun events?

Dave/Riggers, its just something we've made a point of over the past couple of years.

Although we go over for the pool, it gets us away for a whole weekend, so we make the most of it.

Usually the Irish tournaments are held on a Saturday and played to a finish.
I wouldnt say the fields are quite as large as the English tournaments, but decent quality nonetheless. There were 2 tournaments on Saturday starting with 8 ball (32 players), then 9 ball (42 players).
It was meant to be played in Dublin, but the venue messed the tour up by deciding to to stage the event after all.
It was then re-scheduled to play in Newry in the North.
We had already booked accomodation in Dublin, so we hired a minibus and driver to take us there and back.
Fortunately for us, there was a big race meeting at the Curragh on the Sunday, so that was an experience.

My only fault with Dublin is that it is bloomin expensive (around 7 euros for a beer), but the place is absolutely buzzing.

We were in Belfast last year and had an equally good time (although it was cheaper lol)

Sounds good and I'll look out for it. Is a flyer posted on Pro9? Is there a schedule somewhere?

www.irelands9balltour.com

Ireland's American 8 & 9 Ball Pool Tour has it's own topic section on Pro9.co.uk where the Tour Director, Ronnie Boyle, sends ace reports with results and photos from events.

Often, the announcement for the next event is made at the end of the report for the last event, but I'll be adding ALL of the Scottish and Irish Open events to the Pro9 Calendar shortly. (Check out the Pro9 Calendar for September now).

I was thinking myself going to play a tournament one weekend on the Ireland American 8 & 9 ball tour. I have been reading the reports when they started getting put on here and they sound and look good to go play on.

Maybe a few of us from here should meet up and go over there.

Who's up for that sometime?

Friday 15th to Sunday 17th Sept looks like a good bet for a trip to Belfast. Jet2 fly from Leeds/Bradford. And EasyJet fly from Liverpool. mmm Very tempting...

Who else is up for it and does anyone have any recommendations for reasonably priced rooms?

Riggers, I know which one NOT to go for!!
The Helga Lodge was where we stayed last year & the fine Irish breakfast we were promised, turned out to be a slice of wafer ham, potato scone & cold beans!

There is a Travelodge right in the centre of Belfast at £59 per double room (no breakfast)
https://www.travelodge.co.uk/make_a_booking/availability.php?hotel_id=224&doa_dd=15&doa_mm=09-2006&stay_len=2&no_of_rooms=1&corp_id=&rate_plan=&agent_type=&agent_code=&x=52&y=10

But to be honest, have a look on the net for a B&B around the Botanic Gardens area. This area is a 10-15 min walk to the city centre.

I'm not sure where the venue will be, but more than likely will be the Frames complex, which is not that far from the centre either.

I would recommend calling Ronnie Boyle before you decide, just to make sure the date is as on the tour diary. You'll get his number on the Irish tour site.

While you are there, I would recomend a visit to Sam Gibson's Club 9 in Dunmurry, Belfast.
www.club9belfast.co.uk

They are extremely friendly there :-D

Unfortunatly I wouldnt be able to do that Riggers as I have next week booked off work & hoping to go on holiday in November in the first or second week....but definitly up for going sometime.

Maybe those who are intrested we should discuss it sometime when to go, when were at a same tournament venue over here.

I think we owe the Irish tour a visit as some players in the past have travelled to events over here and not many of us have gone over there to play in there events like they have supported us.

a "free" weekend in Dublin lol - cant be many of those at £4 a beer!

next trip for me is to defend Ulster open on Nov 24th!
